Stephen Emery, a producer and film executive who worked for Gale Anne Hurd and Bill Gerber and on films featuring the likes of Clint Eastwood, Anna Kendrick, Liam Hemsworth, Aaron Eckhart and Liam Neeson, has died. He was 46.
Emery died Saturday in a Los Angeles gym after a workout, Big Swell Entertainment CEO Andy Horwitz told The Hollywood Reporter. He recently joined the production company that had launched in October.
“Everyone that had the pleasure to know Stephen Emery is heartbroken over the sudden loss of one of our own,” Horwitz said in a statement. “Stephen was much more than an invaluable producer, he was also an irreplaceable friend. His passion for film was outweighed only by his passion for life, and he lived every day like it was his last. We will miss his adventurous spirit, his loyal friendship and his genuine love for life. Rest in peace, brother.

‘Chameleon: Hollywood Con Queen’ Podcast Fingers Suspect In Long Running Scam — Shocker — She’s A He
The notorious scam artist known as the Hollywood Con Queen has preyed upon aspiring members of the Hollywood community who’ve been drawn to Jakarta where they are separated from their savings. The scammer who has used the identities of respected Hollywood executives might not be able to operate under the cloak of deception much longer. Tonight in its ninth and next to last episode, the podcast Chameleon: Hollywood Con Queen divulges the identity of a person the makers call a prime suspect.
We’ll leave it to the podcast to divulge the identity of the alleged perpetrator, but it’s not too much of a spoiler alert to disclose that the alleged culprit, the “Queen,” is actually a man who is of Indonesian descent, living in the UK. A master of accents with an ability to disguise his voice to sound male or female, the person has so far...

Ubisoft’s upcoming pirate-themed open-world video game, Skull & Bones, is getting an accompanying TV series adaptation.
Skull & Bones may be known as a stupendous sea-worthy open-world adventure with epic ship battles and pirate pillaging that's been teased for the past two years by game publisher Ubisoft. However, in an intriguing development, the highly-anticipated video game will arrive as part of a multi-medium blitz, with plans now set for a television series based off the property.
Ubisoft is planning to produce a Skull & Bones TV series, reports THR. The game company is making the medium jump by teaming up with Atlas Entertainment, a studio connected to some DC Extended Universe films like the smash hit, Wonder Woman, and Suicide Squad, as well as imminently-returning Bravo drama series, Dirty John. When a publisher/developer is extremely confident in their product, they'll tend to pour in as much money as possible to raise awareness and hype. This usually entails a massive marketing blast that includes a ton of PR, a couple of preview videos, or even a celebrity of some sort playing the game. However, for Ubisoft, it often means you're getting a live-action representation of said game. Exhibit A would be last year's Far Cry 5 short film, on Amazon Prime Video, that focused on the events leading up to Far Cry 5. In other cases, if you're a popular IP like Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed series, you'll get a subpar movie starring Michael Fassbender.

Even though it needs a new title, the drama known as Triple Frontier finally gets underway next week at Netflix. Perhaps the most apt title would be The Movie That Refused to Die. Ben Affleck is back, heading the ensemble, along with Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, Pedro Pascal, Garrett Hedlund and Adria Arjona.
The J.C. Chandor-directed, Charles Roven-, Alex Gartner- and Andy Horwitz-produced drama is a study in how a worthy script can stay alive, despite setbacks that often are fatal. We last wrote about this one when the picture fell apart after Affleck withdrew for personal reasons as he dealt with sobriety issues. This was when he was going to star with brother Casey Affleck and Mahershala Ali, right after those two were coming off their Oscar-winning performances in Manchester By the Sea and Moonlight, respectively.
Affleck and Ali dropped out over scheduling after the last setback.

Not to be confused with the previously announced WWE film from January, another studio is getting set to sail the deadly seas between reality and holy shit what was that? That's right, kids! Time to head out in cinematic search of the Bermuda Triangle.
According to Deadline, Warner Bros. has closed a mid-six-figure deal for The Bermuda Triangle, a spec script by Daniel Kunka. The film will be a co-production between Atlas Entertainment and Madhouse Entertainment. Atlas’ Charles Roven and Richard Suckle will produce with Madhouse’s Adam Kolbrenner. Andy Horwitz of Atlas and Robyn Meisinger of Madhouse are exec producing. Jon Berg will shepherd the project at Warner Bros.
While plot details are still under wraps, the ambition is to use the Bermuda Triangle mythology – planes and ships go missing – and turn it into a tentpole action franchise. The words "action franchise" have us a bit worried, but we shall see.

There are some big things happening over at Starz and they involve Academy Award winner screenwriter William Monahan. These days when there are things going down at Starz it means a new series is in development and that sentiment rings true; Monahan is bringing a period crime drama to Starz that will study the criminal enterprises and scandal across a 1960s Britain. There’s no better a person than Monahan for cooking up such a series; he snagged his Oscar for penning the twisty Martin Scorsese directed crime film, The Departed. Monahan knows his crime dramas and it’s for that reason alone that I am deeply interested in the potential of this series.
Monahan has already received a script commitment from Starz, according to the Hollywood Reporter, which he will be writing. Vanessa Sadler originally developed the project, called Crime, as a feature film treatment, but at some point...
