Stephen Emery, a producer and film executive who worked for Gale Anne Hurd and Bill Gerber and on films featuring the likes of Clint Eastwood, Anna Kendrick, Liam Hemsworth, Aaron Eckhart and Liam Neeson, has died. He was 46.

Emery died Saturday in a Los Angeles gym after a workout, Big Swell Entertainment CEO Andy Horwitz told The Hollywood Reporter. He recently joined the production company that had launched in October.

“Everyone that had the pleasure to know Stephen Emery is heartbroken over the sudden loss of one of our own,” Horwitz said in a statement. “Stephen was much more than an invaluable producer, he was also an irreplaceable friend. His passion for film was outweighed only by his passion for life, and he lived every day like it was his last. We will miss his adventurous spirit, his loyal friendship and his genuine love for life. Rest in peace, brother.

A cause of death has not been determined, but Emery had survived a heart attack five years ago.

Variety reports that Protagonist Pictures will be launching international distribution sales at this month’s European Film Market, while CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group co-rep North American rights.

Green Bank gets its name from a real West Virginia town that’s located within the National Radio Quiet Zone, which is centered between the Green Bank Observatory and the Sugar Grove Station. Radio transmissions are restricted by law in this area “to facilitate scientific research and the gathering of military intelligence.” Cell phone use is restricted in the area, and the use of Wi-Fi routers and microwave ovens is also discouraged.

Big Swell will look to take a different approach in comparison to the model of the traditional production company, allowing producers to operate independently under the Big Swell banner while encouraging a collective and collaborative approach with all creatives involved. Ubisoft’s upcoming pirate-themed open-world video game, Skull & Bones, is getting an accompanying TV series adaptation.

Skull & Bones may be known as a stupendous sea-worthy open-world adventure with epic ship battles and pirate pillaging that's been teased for the past two years by game publisher Ubisoft. However, in an intriguing development, the highly-anticipated video game will arrive as part of a multi-medium blitz, with plans now set for a television series based off the property.

Ubisoft is planning to produce a Skull & Bones TV series, reports THR. Patrick Wilson ("The Conjuring," "Watchmen") will replace Timothy Olyphant as the lead in "The Man on Carrion Road" for Atlas Independent and Relativity International.

The story deals with a border town sheriff who teams up with his retired predecessor to investigate a botched cartel deal which has lead to a mysterious cartel butcher brutalising his town.

Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego will direct from a script by Nils Lyew, with filming to begin in March. William Green, Aaron Ginsburg and Andy Horwitz will produce.

Olyphant had to depart due to scheduling conflicts with FX's "Justified".

Atlas Entertainment, Henceforth Pictures, Starz and Sonar Entertainment are all teaming to produce the 1960s UK-set drama series "Crime."

Oscar-winning screenwriter William Monahan ("The Departed," "Kingdom of Heaven") is penning the series which is described as "a study of criminal enterprise and scandal" during the period. Monahan adds that "it's very, very, funny."

The project was originally developed as a feature film treatment by Vanessa Sadler, a treatment which has now been reformatted for the small screen.

Monahan, Charles Roven, William Green, Andy Horwitz and Justine Suzanne Jones will executive produce the property which will screen on Starz in North America.

Australian actor Jason Clarke has signed on to lead the new film from screenwriter William Monahan.

Monahan, who won a best adapted screenplay Academy Award for The Departed, will write, produce and direct Mojave, the plot for which is being kept quiet.

Clarke will appear alongside The Bourne Legacy and Drive actor Oscar Isaac.

Clarke will appear in the forthcoming Kathryn Bigelow film Zero Dark Thirty alongside fellow Australian-taking-Hollywood Joel Edgerton. Both shared the screen on Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby. Clarke appeared this year in cinemas in the small Australian film Swerve and John Hillcoat’s Lawless.

The film will be produced by Monahan’s Henceforth Pictures and Atlas Independent’s William Green. Atlas’s Andy Horwitz and Justine Suzanne Jones of Henceforth with executive produce.

The film is due to start shooting early 2013.

Clarke is represented by CAA and Robert Stein Management.
