An early test showing of Emerald Fennell’s forthcoming Brontë adaptation suggests the unfinished film features horse-rein sex, suggestive egg yolks and necrophile nuns
Equal parts intrigue and scepticism had already dogged the forthcoming adaptation of Wuthering Heights from Emerald Fennell – whose first two films, Promising Young Woman and Saltburn, displayed a love of mordant and explicit envelope-pushing.
As reported by World of Reel, a first test screening for the film, which stars Margot Robbie and Saltburn’s Jacob Elordi, took place earlier this week in Dallas, and audience reaction was “mixed”.

Margot Robbie's turn as the titular doll in Greta Gerwig's Barbiehas arguably been one of her biggest roles in recent years, but the actress is now said to be sizing up a new acting gig that could be even bigger… literally. Robbie is reportedly in early talks to star in a giant role in Tim Burton's wild remake of the sci-fi cult classic Attack of the 50 Foot Woman for Warner Bros. She would also co-produce the film under her LuckyChap production banner, but her involvement hinges on one critical factor, and it might turn out to be a tall order.

It is a truth universally acknowledged — nay, undeniable — that Margot Robbie is one of the biggest movie stars on the planet. From The Wolf Of Wall Street to The Suicide Squad, and from Barbie to Babylon, the multiple-time Oscar, BAFTA, and Golden Globe nominated former Neighbours alumni has more than earned her status among Hollywood's elite. And now, per Variety's reporting, the Aussie actor may be about to become an even bigger star — literally — as she circles the lead role in Tim Burton's upcoming Attack Of The Fifty Foot Woman remake at Warner Bros.
We first learned of Burton's plans to deliver a fresh take on the 1958 B-movie classic — last readapted by Christopher Guest back in 1993 with Daryl Hannah — last February, with reports at the time confirming that Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn would be tackling the script for this one. A big star is circling the even-bigger title role of Tim Burton's next project. Margot Robbie is in early talks to star in Attack of the Fifty-Foot Woman, a remake of the 1958 drive-in cult classic of the same name. It would be the first collaboration between the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice director and the Wolf of Wall Street star. Variety reports that Robbie is looking to produce the project, as well as star in it.
The actor is no stranger to genre material, and even has some experience being "larger than life": the allegorical opening scene of Barbiefeatures Robbie as a version of the title doll colossal enough to block out the sun. After her star turn in that billion-dollar blockbuster, Robbie is next set to appear with Colin Farrell in the romantic fantasy A Big Bold Beautiful Journey this fall, and then in Emerald Fennell's adaptation of Wuthering Heights next year.

Update: Variety has confirmed the news, reporting that Margot Robbie is in early talks to join Tim Burton’s Attack of the Fifty-Foot Woman remake. If the deal closes, she will produce the film with LuckyChap partners Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara, but it’s still up in the air if she will star in the movie. The producers are searching for a new writer to tackle the script (the first draft was penned by Gillian Flynn), and Variety states that Robbie’s involvement would depend on how the final version turns out.

After rumors swirled of her being involved with the film, it's now been revealed Margot Robbie is indeed in talks for Tim Burton's Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman. Burton has enjoyed a steady resurgence over the past few years, beginning with his work directing and producing Wednesday season 1, followed by finally getting Beetlejuice Beetlejuice off the ground.
Before the latter film became a critical and commercial hit, it was revealed that Burton was teaming with Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn to develop the Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman remake at Warner Bros. However, this past December saw the director clarify it was not a sure thing, saying it'll be true when he's on the movie's set.

Margot Robbie is in early conversations to join Tim Burton’s remake of “Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman” for Warner Bros. If a deal closes, Robbie would produce the new film with LuckyChap partners Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara with an eye to star.
News broke last February that Burton was working on a reimagining of the 1958 science-fiction horror movie, which follows a wealthy heiress who grows into a giant after an alien encounter and exacts revenge on her cheating husband. “The Nightmare Before Christmas” creator planned to direct, as well as produce alongside Andrew Mittman and Tommy Harper. Kai Dolbashian serves as executive producer.
“Gone Girl” writer Gillian Flynn penned a first draft of the screenplay, but has since exited the project due to other commitments. The producing team is currently searching for a new writer, and Robbie’s involvement as the lead actor would depend on the final version.

The much-talked-about Hall of Justice mural from Superman teased many characters that exist in the history of the Dcu, from Bulletman and Bulletgirl to Vibe and even two versions of the speedster Max Mercury. It appears that these characters were not only fun little Easter Eggs to help flesh out the world of the Dcu and its history, but also will play a part in its future. James Gunn has now hinted that two of these characters are going to be part of upcoming Dcu projects.
While speaking with IGN at San Diego Comic-Con, Gunn confirmed that two of the characters in the Dcu mural would play a role in an upcoming project, but he didn't specify which title.

Owen Cooper Says ‘Adolescence’ Got So Big, Jacob Elordi Roasted Him During ‘Wuthering Heights’ Shoot
Owen Cooper may not have been the first name on the call sheet when he was filming Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights earlier this year, but his co-stars, including Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie, could not help but notice the young actor’s newfound Adolescence fame.
The limited series was popping on Netflix during the Wuthering Heights shoot, with Cooper’s performance as Jamie Miller — a 13-year-old accused of murdering a female classmate — making him a fixture on TV screens as people scrambled to secure an interview with the actor.
Elordi did not let it slide, taking the opportunity to roast Cooper, who plays the younger version of his character, Heathcliff. “They were all saying how big the show’s gone, and they were sick of seeing me on TV and stuff. That’s what Jacob said,” Cooper smiles. “Margot said that she was dying to watch it.”

The Opening Night Gala of the BFI London Film Festival is a coveted slot, usually reserved for the buzziest of buzzy movies in town. In recent years, we've seen the likes of Steve McQueen's Blitz, Emerald Fennell's Saltburn, and Jeymes Samuel's The Harder They Fall kick off the Big Smoke's annual cinematic celebration in style. And for the upcoming 69th edition of Lff, the BFI are really bringing out the big guns, as today they've announced that Rian Johnson's hotly anticipated Knives Out threequel Wake Up Dead Man will be heading to London — and partner cinemas around the UK — to make its international premiere at the fest.
Having previously screened Knives Out itself at London Film Festival and made its sequel, Glass Onion, the Opening Night Gala back in 2022, it doesn't take Benoit Blanc to deduce that the BFI — much like us — are big fans of...

Now that the 26th James Bond movie officially has a director attached in Denis Villeneuve, the search is officially on for whom will play 007. A report in Variety on Friday suggests Amazon MGM Studios’ wishlist includes some familiar faces.
Variety reported that Jacob Elordi, Tom Holland, and Harris Dickinson, three of the more in-demand young actors today, are all at the top of producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman’s wishlist. The studio is supposedly looking for a British actor under the age of 30, which would ostensibly eliminate some other popular one-time candidates like Henry Cavill, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, or at one point a seeming front runner, Idris Elba. However, no meetings have taken place with any candidates for the role, according to Variety.
Amazon declined IndieWire’s request for comment.

“Adolescence” may be one of the more uncomfortable sits of the year in television, and it’s so affecting because its lead star, Owen Cooper, said that playing the role of Jamie Miller truly took him out of his “comfort zone.”
“It’s an honor to be here. What started off as a hobby to landing the role in ‘Adolescence,’ acting has really taken me out of my comfort zone and inspired me to learn and soak up knowledge from other experienced actors,” Cooper said upon accepting the first award of the evening at the IndieWire Honors ceremony held in Los Angeles on Thursday.
Cooper won the Breakthrough Award from IndieWire Honors, and it couldn’t be more fitting, because his role in “Adolescence” was his very first on-screen role. He’s not even a nepo baby! Though fellow honoree Ben Stiller jokingly scolded Cooper for not thanking his father Bradley.

The makers of Netflix’s limited series “Adolescence” started with a strong, disturbing theme: a violent act committed by a 13-year-old amid the pressures of a social-media culture that can foment alienation, misogyny and violence. They had a provocative format: four hour-long episodes that would take place in real time and in single, uninterrupted takes. They had a strong cast that was led by Stephen Graham, who was also co-creator and co-writer and exec-produced the series alongside formidable allies like Plan B’s Brad Pitt, Jeremy Kleiner and Dede Gardner.
What they didn’t have, though — and what they needed for “Adolescence” to work — was a young teenage boy who could play the mild-mannered Jamie Miller, who is arrested in the stabbing death of a female classmate. The part required an actor who could handle hour-long takes and persuade viewers that he was a naive kid falsely accused of a monstrous crime in one moment,...

Sony Pictures has released the trailer for “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey,” a romance film starring Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell.
The romance-fantasy film, directed by Kogonada, is “an imaginative tale of two strangers,” per the official logline. The cast also includes Jodie Turner-Smith, Lily Rabe, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Hamish Linklater.
Kogonada previously directed the sci-fi family drama “After Yang,” which starred Farrell and Turner-Smith, as well as 2017’s “Columbus.” He also directed the Apple TV+ series “Pachinko.” Seth Reiss, known for “The Menu,” wrote the script.
Farrell told Collider that the film is “kind of a love story, but it’s not a very typical one. It’s definitely magical realism. It’s grounded in a world that we recognize, but it also is removed enough into the world of fantastical that it goes into these kinds of whimsical places.”

Jacob Elordi says embodying Dorrigo Evans in the five-part miniseries The Narrow Road to the Deep North forced him “through a layer of hell,” yet deepened his commitment to acting’s “circus,” a passion he insists keeps growing with each role. The Australian actor shed weight to portray the starving Pow, joining dozens of extras on a six-week regimen that director Justin Kurzel believes gave the rail-camp scenes “a brutal truth.”
Produced by Sony and Amazon, the adaptation of Richard Flanagan’s Booker-winning novel premiered in April and will move to the BBC and other outlets later this year. Industry notes from the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts describe the series as charting Evans’s path from clandestine romance to reluctant national hero. Critics have responded warmly; Rotten Tomatoes lists 100 percent approval, praising Elordi’s performance as “sterling,” and Guardian reviewer Luke Buckmaster highlighted the chemistry between Elordi and Odessa Young.

Jacob Elordi keeps waiting for the day he might lose his love for acting. It hasn’t happened yet, and he hopes it never will.
In fact, the Australian actor, who most recently played a haunted prisoner of war in Justin Kurzel’s The Narrow Road to the Deep North, feels like he’s just getting started.
“I’m just incredibly open to being a part of the circus right now, in a way. I really love being an actor. I don’t know, silly as that it may sound, the love for it just keeps going deeper and deeper,” he tells Deadline.
In The Narrow Road to the Deep North, adapted from Richard Flanagan’s novel, Elordi stars as Lieutenant-Colonel Dorrigo Evans, a celebrated World War II hero who is haunted by his experiences in a Japanese prisoner of war camp and memories of an affair with Amy Mulvaney...

A few months have passed since Netflix's riveting crime drama Adolescence was released, and audiences are still struggling to get over the distressing story of the teenage boy who did the unthinkable. It was a well-written series, featuring a unique visual style and delivering impressive performances by its cast. In the lead, Owen Cooper, whose range was key to achieving such a complicated character as Jamie Miller, the boy accused of a horrific crime. The young star has been receiving widespread acclaim for his performance in the show, and while he's relatively new in the entertainment industry, he always dreamed of being in the spotlight–especially after he saw one particular performance by the McU's Tom Holland.

Ridley Scott's upcoming film The Dog Starshas been in development for a while, but it officially has a release date now and seems to be almost finished. The film is based on Peter Heller's acclaimed sci-fi novel of the same name and stars Jacob Elordi in the lead role following Paul Mescal's exit from the project last year.
Speaking with Screen Rant, director Ridley Scott has explained that while Elordi wasn't his first choice for the role, he was inspired to cast him after watching his performance in Saltburn. Emerald Fennell’s 2023 drama follows two university students who develop an unconventional friendship despite their different backgrounds, exploring themes of parasocial obsession and classism. Jacob Elordi’s latest project is a return to TV with Justin Kurzel’s limited series “The Narrow Road to the Deep North,” which premiered on Prime Video last month. Following its premiere in Berlin in February, reviews raved about Elordi’s performance as 1940s war doctor Dorrigo Evans, following the Aussie story adapted from Richard Flanagan’s novel of the same name.
For his first television role following “Euphoria,” Elordi was particularly drawn in by director Kurzel, who sent him an email asking if he had interest in the project, and in turn, led him toward his most profound performance to date. Upon signing onto the series, he had 12 months to sit with the material and prepare before filming began. “I had about a year to myself to marinate in all of the period information and in the book. Carey Mulligan claimed her first Oscar nomination for her lead role in the 2009 coming-of-age saga “An Education.” Then the British actress once again collected bountiful awards nominations (and some wins) for her role as a #MeToo- era femme fatale avenger in the darkly comic thriller “Promising Young Woman.”
Like many of the directors whose names appear on her resume, first-time helmer Emerald Fennell -- the Season 2 showrunner for ”Killing Eve” who also plays Camila Parker Bowles in “The Crown” -- has a distinctive vision that allows the actress to inhabit abundant shades of emotion, from ballsy and badass to pastel-pink and girly.
In 2022, her great work was in "She Said," based on the intense investigation into sexual allegations against Hollywood mega-producer Harvey Weinstein. She followed in 2023 with possibly her greatest performance yet in "Maestro" opposite Bradley Cooper.
Take a photo gallery tour of Mulligan’s 14 best movies, ranked worst to best.

The Visitor (2024) Movie Review: By the time he was mysteriously abducted and murdered mere weeks before the premiere of his final film, Pier Paolo Pasolini had cultivated for himself a reputation as a boundary-pushing filmmaker, content with critiquing the fast-tracking of consumerism and cultural dilution of his native Italy through any transgressive means necessary. Oftentimes, that transgression manifested in exploring the politics of his day through taboo sexual content, and one of his most renowned projects in that respect is the 1968 allegorical feature Teorema. Striking to audiences at the time for its dense themes and sparse delivery, Teorema would endure as one of Pasolini’s most discussed and acclaimed films, a testament to the director’s ability to push buttons while remaining firm in his conviction that something pertinent will reveal itself to us if we push back.

Carey Mulligan is in talks to star in Greta Gerwig’s “Chronicles of Narnia” adaptation at Netflix.
If the deal closes, Mulligan will join the previously announced cast of Daniel Craig, Meryl Streep and Emma Mackey. Otherwise, the project is still in the midst of the casting process according to The Hollywood Reporter, which broke the news of Mulligan’s hiring.
In her much-anticipated “Barbie” follow-up, Gerwig is writing and directing the fantasy adventure, which reportedly follows “The Magician’s Nephew” — the sixth novel in the series by author C.S. Lewis. The story serves as a prequel to “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” and centers on the creation of Narnia by Aslan the lion (voiced by Streep). Two children, Digory and Polly, are the first to discover the “Wood between the Worlds” after an uncle (Craig) gives the two friends a magical ring. Mackey is playing the Jadis,...

Jacob Elordi’s performance in The Narrow Road Into the Deep North earned a last-minute shift onto the Primetime Emmy ballot, positioning the five-part Australian drama against heavyweight contenders in limited-series categories. Sony Pictures Television and Prime Video submitted the show just before the Television Academy’s May 8 deadline, moving it from the International branch into contention for Best Limited or Anthology Series, Lead Actor (Elordi), Directing (Justin Kurzel) and Writing (Shaun Grant).
Adapted from Richard Flanagan’s Booker Prize–winning novel, The Narrow Road Into the Deep North follows an Australian surgeon before and after World War II. Elordi portrays the younger version of a doctor whose Pow experience is haunted by memories of a wartime affair (Odessa Young) and revisited decades later by Ciarán Hinds. Since its April 18 release on Prime Video, the series has achieved a perfect Rotten Tomatoes rating, edging past Netflix’s British import Adolescence.

Okay, now Kristen Stewart is just showing off.
The Oscar nominated “Spencer” star steps behind the camera, writing and directing “The Chronology of Water,” which premiered in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. A portrait of pain, rebirth and reclamation, the film’s heartbeat comes from Stewart’s skillful and natural filmmaking. It is bolstered by two veteran actors we haven’t seen do something like this in years, Jim Belushi and Thora Birch.
Adapted from Lidia Yuknavitch’s memoir, it recounts her story of going from a champion swimmer, to an addict, and later a writer. Stewart’s directorial debut has an avant-garde sensibility that’s part “The Basketball Diaries,” part Terrence Malick reverie, with a dash of Jim Jarmusch’s cool restraint and an undercurrent of rebellion that flows through it. The film benefits by being made from a female perspective that never shies...

Jacob Elordi and Lily-Rose Depp are in talks to play twisted siblings in Laszlo Nemes’ adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s novel “Outer Dark.” Deadline reported that the feature will shoot in 2026, with “Son of Saul” and “Sunset” Oscar winner Nemes making his English-language debut with the project.
“Outer Dark” is billed as a “dark fairytale” that takes place in Appalachia during the Great Depression. Depp will play a young woman who gives birth to her brother’s (Elordi) baby. The brother tells his sister that the newborn died of natural causes, but he secretly leaves the baby in the woods to die.
The logline teases that, as the siblings both search for the missing child for their own separate reasons, “three terrifying strangers are on their tails, wreaking death and destruction wherever they appear.” The novel was released in 1968. McCarthy’s other novels “No Country for Old Men” and “The Road...

The action sequel The Accountant 2, which sees Ben Affleck reprising his role as autistic action hero Christian Wolff opposite returning co-stars Jon Bernthal, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, and J. K. Simmons, is climbing an important box office chart. The Accountant 2 opening weekend was underwhelming, with a $24.5 million domestic gross seeing it debut at No. 3 behind the second weekend of Sinners and the 20th anniversary re-release of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. It also had a harsh 61.3% drop during its sophomore weekend, but it has since leveled out and continued to climb the domestic chart.
Per The Numbers, The Accountant 2 has hit a domestic box office total of $53.6 million, just ahead of its fourth weekend in theaters. This is enough for it to surpass the $52.6 earned by George Clooney's 2023 rowing movie The Boys in the Boat and the $50.1 million earned by Luca Guadagnino's 2024 tennis drama Challengers,...

"When you think of me, you should think of fire," warns de Armas' Eve Macarro at the beginning of the trailer, which sees the young assassin staring at Keanu Reeves' John Wick, who is staring back at her through the scope of his gun. Past marketing for Ballerina has teased the fight sequence between Eve and John that promises to delight longtime fans of the action franchise. While hardly the first entry in that tried-and-true subset of film revolving around someone lured to any manner of nondescript palatial estate by an individual possessing more than a hint of mystery, only for things to soon spiral rapidly out of control, Emerald Fennell’s 2023 escapade “Saltburn” might be the most recent, or at least the most noteworthy. Though Fennell’s thriller would see the luree, as opposed to the lurer, reveal himself as the one to be feared, it nonetheless checked off the remaining boxes while inadvertently leaving the door open for followers like “Electra,” where the old saying of how something walked so its descendent could run finds itself applied here.

Kharmel Cochrane, the casting director behind Emerald Fennell's adaptation of Emily Brontë's beloved Wuthering Heights, has defended the controversial decision to assign the film's leading roles to Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, who will play Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, respectively, after news of their involvement drew significant criticism from literary enthusiasts. The lavish Wuthering Heights adaption with Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi has run into some significant trouble. Many people have said that Robbie and Elordi are not right for the roles of Cathy and Heathcliff.
Now, the film's casting director has spoken out. Kharmel Cochrane talked about the controversy during a Q&a at the Sands International Film Festival of St. Andrews, and unfortunately she just added fuel to the flames.
