Inner Ghosts is a low-budget supernatural horror movie directed and written by Paulo Leite in his directorial debut. The film began as a Kickstarter campaign from Leite which was funded successfully in 2018. A touch on the convoluted side of things, it still kept my attention, for better or worse, and in the end I found that there were some really inventive and interesting ideas going on here.
What struck me immediately, which isn’t usually the case with low-budget horror films, was the impeccable and delightful music that Inner Ghosts had going on. The work done by Miguel Cordeiro who composed the minimalist and eerie score to the film is worth mentioning in my view. It really helped to immediately convey a specific energy and added true quality to things.

Tagline: ‘The key to Hell lies deep within your heart.’ Inner Ghosts is a film from Portugal. Developed by director Paulo Leite, this title involves a medium and her connection with the dead. Inner Ghosts will release in the country, in which it was shot (Jan. 2020). Recently, the film was shown at the Horror-on-Sea Film Festival, in Essex. Centrally starring Celia Williams (Above Suspicion), Elizabeth Bochmann and Iris Cayatte, Uncork'd Entertainment will release this indie horror title in early January. A preview of the film's impending launch is available here. At the Horror-on-Sea Film Festival, Leite talked about the film's production. Starting with the lighting, Leite said of the film's natural lighting: "we used a lot of candle light on the film. I like shooting in low light (Blazing Minds)." Some of that low lighting can be seen in the trailer, which was released earlier this month. As well, the...

Ventana Sur’s Blood Window stands out as one of Latin America’s most important events for the promotion and advancement of genre filmmaking.
According to Blood Window coordinator Javier Fernández, genre filmmaking has become a Helms Deep-type bastion for independent filmmakers looking to create cinema on their own terms and with limited budgets.
“Genre is, in Latin America, where independent filmmaking is still happening,” said Fernandez. “Many independent filmmakers are turning to the fantastic to find a place in the market. Overall production for genre films has stayed steady, but more independent directors are turning to genre to save that independent nature of production.”
More than that though, it has provided a launchpad for a number of filmmakers looking to work internationally. Latin American genre provided the roots of filmmakers like Guillermo del Toro (“Cronos”), “Don’t Breath” director Fede Alvarez and “It” director Andy Muschietti, recently linked to...
