The musician and actor is now looking to merge the two with a music television format, The Jam.

Van Zandt has teamed up with Apploff Entertainment, the company behind Fox game shows Don’t Forget The Lyrics and We Are Family, to develop the project.

A weekly live-to-tape event, the series is inspired by classic series such as American Bandstand and Soul Train as well as MTV Unplugged. It will bring together global pop stars and new artists with performances, story packages and interviews.

It is the latest music format for Jeff Apploff’s company; in addition to Don’t Forget The Lyrics, the company is behind Fox’s Beat Shazam. Elsewhere, it produces CBS’ Lotería Loca and NBC’s The Wheel.

Jamie Foxx is returning to Fox’s game show Beat Shazam after missing the show’s most recent season following a health scare.

The network announced Monday that Foxx and daughter Corinne will resume hosting duties on the music-based game show, whose seventh season premieres May 28. After a medical issue during filming of Netflix’s movie Back in Action in April 2023, Foxx was hospitalized and underwent a long recovery process.

Foxx hasn’t disclosed the nature of the medical issue, but in his first public appearance since then — at a Critics Choice Association event in December — he hinted at some serious effects: “I couldn’t do that six months ago, I couldn’t actually walk to [the stage],” he said at the time. He also joked that “I saw the tunnel, I didn’t see the light. It was hot in that tunnel too — I don’t know where I was going.

“Lotería has been around for around 400 years and it’s played by 40 million people every day. It’s a ‘must have’ game for many Latin American families. Exclusive: Apploff Entertainment, the unscripted production company behind series such as Fox’s Beat Shazam and NBC’s The Wheel, is promoting from within.

The company has upped Danielle Peress to VP, Current and Development. She was previously Director of Development.

Peress started as Jeff Apploff’s executive assistant before becoming responsible for creating, packaging, marketing and selling a number of series. She has worked on Beat Shazam, hosted by Jamie Foxx, Fox’s Don’t Forget the Lyrics reboot, hosted by Niecy Nash, and was a supervising producer on NBC’s The Wheel, an adaptation of the BBC gameshow.

She will report to Apploff and will now manage Zach Gelfand, who began as an intern before becoming Apploff’s executive assistant, who has been promoted to Development Coordinator.

NBC will strip its U.S. remake of hit U.K. game show The Wheel across two weeks in an unusual scheduling move.

The series will launch on December 19 at 10pm and will move to 8pm for its second week with new episodes airing nightly.

It comes after the show was left off the network’s midseason schedule unveiled last week.

Created and hosted by British comedian Michael McIntyre, who hosted the version on the BBC, each hourlong episode follows 6 celebrity guests spinning, advising, and supporting contestants battling it out for a chance to win over 100k.

The premiere episode will see Cat Cora, Christina Ricci, Amber Ruffin, Steve Kornacki, Mark McGrath, and Todrick Hall assist competitors across a range of categories from Beyoncé and the ’90s to elections and more.

NBC is bringing over British comedian Michael McIntyre to host the U.S. version of his BBC game show The Wheel.

McIntyre, who created the show with regular producing partner Dan Baldwin, hosts the UK version and will now host and exec produce the NBC adaptation.

It marks the first major U.S. move for the comedian, who is a staple of Saturday night entertainment in the UK and regularly sells out huge venues across Britain. McIntyre is best known for one-liners and jokes about man draws and in 2018, he became the highest-selling artist in the history of the O2 Arena, selling over 400,000 tickets across 28 shows. His first Netflix special Showman was released in September 2020.

Niecy Nash will host a revival of the game show “Don’t Forget the Lyrics” at Fox next season, the network announced Wednesday.

The game show, which originally ran on Fox for two seasons between 2007 and 2009, challenges contestants to recall the lyrics to 10 songs from a variety of genres, eras and musical artists for a $1 million prize. The revival will debut on the network during the 2021-22 TV season.

The new role keeps Nash in the fold at Fox, where she recently guest-hosted the first few episodes of “The Masked Singer” Season 5 after regular host Nick Cannon tested positive for Covid-19.

The original iteration of “Don’t Forget the Lyrics” was hosted by Wayne Brady and later by Sugar Ray’s Mark McGrath. It was created by Jeff Apploff, who also produces “Beat Shazam,” “Mental Samurai” and “Game of Talents” at Fox.

The Masked Singer season 5 and Game Of Talents will make a back-to-back premiere, debuting on Fox on Wednesday, March 10. Airing from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Et/Pt The Masked Singer will return to its TV slot with Niecy Nash kicking the mystery singing competition off as guest host. The Reno 911 and Mrs. America actress will temporarily fill in for regular host Nick Cannon, who has contracted coronavirus. Panelists Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Thicke will also return. Leanne Rimes, who posed as “Sun” won the the competition back in December, with Aloe Blacc coming up in second place.

“The Masked Singer” will premiere its fifth season this March on Fox with a new lead-out series, the broadcast network said Monday.

The hit whosungit series will debut Season 5 on Wednesday, March 10 at 8/7c and be immediately followed by the series premiere of the new Wayne Brady-hosted variety show “Game of Talents” at 9/8c.

In the fall, “The Masked Singer” acted as the lead-in for “I Can See Your Voice,” which was renewed for Season 2 at Fox in January. The broadcast network has decided to slot “Game of Talents” in its place for this spring cycle.

The series is currently in production in Los Angeles and will debut on Fox in 2021.

Warner Bros. is aiming to shoot the second season of the Rob Lowe-hosted Fox game show “Mental Samurai” next week in Portugal, where the studio has set up a “production hub” for global versions of the format, multiple people with knowledge of the plan told TheWrap.

Showrunner Jeff Apploff left for Lisbon, Portugal, on Thursday, according to a post on his Facebook page. Current travel plans call for Lowe to fly out on Sunday with American contestants to arrive next week, one insider said. The 10-episode first season of the Rob Lowe-hosted competition series premiered last March. Casting is currently underway for the second season, which will premiere at 9/8c on Wednesday, April 22.

Fox describes “Mental Samurai” as a game show “that pushes every aspect of human intelligence and mental agility” and calls it “the first-ever obstacle course…for the mind.”
