Music to our ears! Jamie Foxx and his daughter Corinne are together again for Beat Shazam’s seventh season, premiering Tuesday, May 28 on Fox. He hosts and she deejays on the game show where three teams of two compete to identify song titles fastest, with the winning duo going up against the Shazam app for a chance at $1 million. Jamie missed the previous season due to a serious medical issue he experienced while shooting the Netflix film Back in Action in April 2023; Nick Cannon and Kelly Osbourne stepped in to take over for the family duo. “This is something special, his return,” says Jeff Apploff, the series’ cocreator and executive producer, as well as a longtime friend of Jamie who flew to Atlanta to be with the actor the day the crisis began. “It’s his first real big project that he’s done since coming back from the illness.

Actor Jamie Foxx isn’t just known for his movies and his singing career. He’s also a gameshow host, headlining the popular Fox show Beat Shazam. Foxx explained how partying with Drake and Diddy helped him get into his new role as a game show host.

Beat Shazam wasn’t the first time Foxx was on TV. He was the lead of his own sitcom, The Jamie Foxx Show, for several years before successfully transitioning into movies. Jamie Foxx is returning to Fox’s game show Beat Shazam after missing the show’s most recent season following a health scare.
The network announced Monday that Foxx and daughter Corinne will resume hosting duties on the music-based game show, whose seventh season premieres May 28. After a medical issue during filming of Netflix’s movie Back in Action in April 2023, Foxx was hospitalized and underwent a long recovery process.
Foxx hasn’t disclosed the nature of the medical issue, but in his first public appearance since then — at a Critics Choice Association event in December — he hinted at some serious effects: “I couldn’t do that six months ago, I couldn’t actually walk to [the stage],” he said at the time. He also joked that “I saw the tunnel, I didn’t see the light. It was hot in that tunnel too — I don’t know where I was going.

CBS introduces the first-ever Latin-inspired game show in the US, Lotería Loca, hosted by Jaime Camil and featuring Latin music sensation Sheila E. Creator Jeff Apploff talks about creating an authentic and fun show with a Latin tone, incorporating elements of the Mexican game Lotería. Lotería Loca adds a twist to the traditional game, with the introduction of "Loca Cards" that raise the stakes and create a high-octane adventure for players.
CBS has kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month with its brand-new game show Lotería Loca, which introduces a unique format based on the Mexican game of Lotería. “Jane the Virgin” star Jaime Camil is bringing the popular Mexican bingo game, lotería, to prime time television as host of CBS’ new game show “Lotería Loca.” While the unscripted series celebrates the game with heightened stakes and larger-than-life game pieces, Camil says he and co-creator Jeff Apploff were careful “not to stereotype” Mexican culture along the way.
“The set designer, Jeff and I really worked not to stereotype Mexicans or my culture,” Camil told TheWrap ahead of the series premiere on Monday. “We didn’t want the set to look like a waiting area at a Señor Frog’s when you go to spring break and [see] wet T-shirt contests — we didn’t want the set to look like that.”
Instead, Camil recommended that Apploff and the set designer visit Mexico’s Pueblos Mágicos — towns that have been dubbed “magical villages” by Mexico’s Secretariat of Tourism — as inspiration for the “Lotería Loca” set.

Jaime Camil is fulfilling a longtime dream of bringing a beloved Mexican game to American audiences. He will host and executive produce the upcoming new CBS series Lotería Loca, premiering Monday, Oct. 2 at 9 p.m.
“Lotería has been around for around 400 years and it’s played by 40 million people every day. It’s a ‘must have’ game for many Latin American families. It’s like Bingo and we’ve changed it up a little for television purposes,” Camil tells Deadline. An exclusive look at how the TV version will be played can be found in the video above.
He continued, “We made some adjustments and now it’s more like Bingo but without forgetting the heritage of the [original game]. We also made the characters on the cards fun and animated; they come alive. Each card also has a monetary value, which is different from the original game.”

For the second straight year, Fox is not releasing a fall schedule at its upfront presentation. Whenever the network does announce its plans, it will include a healthy dose of unscripted programming.
The broadcaster did release its slate of primetime series for the 2023-24 season Monday morning, and it features near parity between the number of scripted (13) and unscripted (12) shows. The latter category includes renewals for Farmer Wants a Wife and Special Forces; new game shows Snake Oil, hosted by David Spade, and We Are Family, hosted by Jamie and Corinne Foxx and from the same producers as Beat Shazam; and the returns of I Can See Your Voice, which took the 2022-23 season off, and Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares, last seen on Fox way back in 2014 — when it shared space on the schedule with the first seasons of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Sleepy Hollow.

CBS on Thursday announced a series order for “Lotería Loca,” a competitive game show based on the popular Mexican version of bingo, to be hosted by “Jane the Virgin” star Jaime Camil.
Camil will also executive produce the unscripted series, in which contestants will compete for a cash prize after facing unexpected challenges and surprise obstacles.
“I grew up playing Lotería with my family and friends back in México. I could say, without a shadow of a doubt, that every single Mexican family owned (and still owns) a Lotería game,” Camil said. “Even though this board game, which is similar to bingo, is still played and owned by millions of people around the globe, it’s something that resonates even more with every single Latinx person, because it helps connect with our heritage and emotional memories.”

In the fall, “The Masked Singer” acted as the lead-in for “I Can See Your Voice,” which was renewed for Season 2 at Fox in January. The broadcast network has decided to slot “Game of Talents” in its place for this spring cycle.
As TheWrap previously reported, when “The Masked Singer” returns for Season 5, Niecy Nash will be serving as guest host for the first few episodes, filling in for longtime emcee Nick Cannon. Cannon tested positive for the coronavirus before production had begun, and will return once he has recuperated.

The show, which is based on a Fremantle-produced Spanish format, features contestants guessing performers’ hidden talent “based only on their first impressions and a few wily clues.”
Here’s the official description for the series:
From the producers of “America’s Got Talent,” comes the international hit variety show Game Of Talents. Taking the awe, wonder and spectacle of a large-scale variety show and infusing it with a clue centered, high-intensity investigative game, Game Of Talents is a new hybrid series like you’ve never seen before. The series pits two teams of contestants against each other as they attempt to figure out the surprising – and sometimes bizarre – hidden talents of the mystery performers. With more than $200,000 on the line, can the contestants spot the fire...

Warner Bros. is aiming to shoot the second season of the Rob Lowe-hosted Fox game show “Mental Samurai” next week in Portugal, where the studio has set up a “production hub” for global versions of the format, multiple people with knowledge of the plan told TheWrap.
Showrunner Jeff Apploff left for Lisbon, Portugal, on Thursday, according to a post on his Facebook page. Current travel plans call for Lowe to fly out on Sunday with American contestants to arrive next week, one insider said. The hope is for production to commence there next week and last for four to six days, the individual said, taping without a studio audience since Lisbon currently limits gatherings to a maximum of 10 persons.
However, due to the constantly evolving rules surrounding international travel and pandemic work protocols, those plans could very well change. And it’s possible that the crew might need to...
