Tom Mattera attended Temple University where he graduated with a B.S.
in Engineering. Shortly after, he returned to Temple for a B.A. in Film
& Media Arts. Within a year after graduating, Tom made his feature film
directorial debut with the critically acclaimed award winning
psychological drama, "The 4th Dimension." Tom was a co-writer,
co-director, co-producer and co-editor on the film. "The 4th Dimension"
won the Grand Jury Honorable Mention Award at the CineVegas
International Film Festival and the NFL Films Technical Achievement
Award at the Philadelphia International Film Festival in 2006. It
screened at 20 international film festivals in 8 countries including
the Montreal World Film Festival, the Brussels International Festival
of Fantastic Film, and the Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival. In 2008,
"The 4th Dimension" was distributed on DVD by TLA Releasing, and on VOD
by Apple iTunes and Sony Playstation.
In 2009, Tom went on to co-direct, co-produce and co-edit the award winning suspense thriller "The Fields," starring Academy Award Winner Cloris Leachman and Tara Reid. On it's debut on the festival circuit in 2011, "The Fields" won Best Feature Film at both the Buffalo Niagara Film Festival and the Terror Film Festival; and Best Directors at the Erie Film Festival. "The Fields" was picked up for distribution by Breaking Glass Pictures for an April 24, 2012 release.
In 2011, Tom and his wife, Jennifer Mattera, founded Tree of Life Films (www.treelifefilms.com), a boutique film production company where they specialize in creating artistic wedding films. They have also produced commercial projects for Discover Magazine and LIQUENT, Inc. In that same year, Tom was hired as the Director of Photography and co-editor for the short film, "The Bardo," a psychological thriller. He has worked on several projects throughout the year including commercials, documentaries, music videos and live events. Tom continues to work as a freelance director, DP and editor.
