“Love Bomb” is a suspenseful thriller that turns digital relationships into a dangerous game of manipulation and desire. It fits in well with the murky world of modern dating apps. The movie is about a dangerous love triangle between Anna, Tom, and Josh. These three characters are caught in a web of psychological mind games controlled by the Love Bomb app.
The story is about a date that starts as simple but quickly becomes more complicated. Anna and Tom look like a couple, and they’re using the app to trick Josh into a complicated situation. It’s hard to tell the difference between truth and performance. What starts out as a possibly steamy encounter turns into a twisted look at power, voyeurism, and people’s true intentions.
The background of “Love Bomb” is reminiscent of hot, tense erotic movies from the late 1980s and early 1990s. The film uses...

The film, directed by David Guglielmo from a screenplay by Kathy Charles, really wants us to get in the mood for whats to come. But I dont think theres anything that fully prepared me. Love Bomb goes beyond expectation, centering a trio of characters who all have one thing in common the Love Bomb dating app, which is unlike any dating app out there. Imperfect performances and a thin premise negatively affect the film. Guglielmo and Charles certainly try to do something different with its story, but its the execution that needs a lot of work.

Applications are open today for Aacta Pitch: Bite, a feature film development initiative in partnership with Monster Pictures.
The call out is for horror or elevated genre feature film concepts; the theme of ‘bite’ can be taken literally, as in monsters, vampires, zombies or cannibals, or metaphorically, as in to ‘take the bait’.
The winner will receive $10,000 in development funds and an Australian theatrical distribution agreement with Monster Pictures, as well as two tickets to the Aacta Awards and a 12-month Aacta professional membership.
Last year’s theme was isolation, and in addition to the winning project, Julia Corcoran’s Burning, a further five projects were also optioned.
Keeping in line with the overall spirit of the initiative, the project ideas must work effectively with minimal locations, small casts and lower budgets.
“After such a successful first year, Monster Pictures is really looking forward to sinking our teeth into this year’s initiative.

The Pastor and the Master: Stevens Enjoyably Re-Vamps Domestic Distress in Grisly Black Comedy
Behind every man is a diminished woman, or so goes the underlying takeaway of Jakob’s Wife, the sophomore effort from director Travis Stephens, reuniting cult genre stalwarts Barbara Crampton and Larry Fessenden (both who appeared in 2015’s We Are Still Here). Crampton, well known to cinephiles as the muse of Stuart Gordon (who passed away in 2020), from his 1980s classics like Reanimator (1985) and From Beyond (1986), also starred in his 1995 television production Castle Freak, remade last year and penned by Kathy Charles, who serves as screenwriter (alongside Stevens and Mark Steensland) this time around.…...

The opening scene of Jakob’s Wife sets the stage for what’s to come as Reverend Jakob Fedder (Larry Fessenden) sermonizes about the love a husband should have for his wife. His partner Anne (Barbara Crampton) is in the front pew listening, but never smiling. She’s not hearing his words and nodding her head in agreement. She’s actually staring daggers at the reality of what his words mean. Because Jakob never says anything about that love being for her benefit. He never says men should love their wives because they deserve respect or equality or even that very love he believes he provides. No. To love your wife is to “love yourself.” Even in what should be a selfless act, this man (and those listening) thinks only of himself.

While I don’t expect everyone to feel the way that I did about Jakob’s Wife, the film quickly won me over in the quieter moments of its opening scene as we watch on as the lovely Anne Fedder (Barbara Crampton) is talked over by her minister husband Jakob (Larry Fessenden) after a Sunday service, and we see her slowly slip away from the scene, almost becoming a quiet observer in that moment. It was during that sequence where I felt immediately bonded to Crampton’s Anne, because years ago in another life, I was her. I found my own identity subtly slipping away in my marriage, and I realized at a certain point that I had to decide just who exactly it was that I wanted to be, and where I wanted my life to be heading towards. But becoming a vampire wasn’t one of my options,...

Low-budget necessity is often the mother of low-budget invention, but sadly not so much in Travis Stevens’ “Jakob’s Wife,” a thin, half-hearted reworking of the vampire mythos that can’t quite decide if it’s spoofy or serious, and doesn’t have the smarts to be both. While it’s theoretically promising to attempt a hybrid tone in which schlocky effects and spurting necks are offset by genuine psychological insight into the discontented life of a long-married small-town pastor’s wife, in practice, the impulses just cancel each other out, whittling down the movie’s stakes long before they’re plunged into anyone’s chest.
You can see, however, how the project might have attracted its chief draw, who is also ultimately its most underserved asset. Actress Barbara Crampton (who also produces) has been a horror icon since starring in 1985’s beloved cult horror-comedy “Re-Animator” and returned to the big...

Even though he’s been a prominent fixture in the realm of horror cinema for well over a decade now, Travis Stevens’ directorial debut only came about in 2019 with the Girl on the Third Floor, a story about the dangers of toxic masculinity. For his follow-up feature, Stevens is taking on the mundanity of marriage and small-town America in Jakob’s Wife, which features Barbara Crampton as the significant other of a minister (played by Larry Fessenden) who has watched her identity slip away over the decades, and she embarks on a journey to not only reclaim her life, but celebrate the power she begins to wield in this new phase of her life as well.
Stevens explained how his journey of taking on Jakob’s Wife as his second feature film project all began with the film’s star, and his good friend, Barbara Crampton. “Well, it all starts with Barbara.

Michael D. Ratner directed the YouTube Originals docuseries, which will look at Lovato’s awakenings following her 2018 overdose and her return to music. Ratner was granted unprecedented access to the pop star’s personal and musical journey.
“It’s impressive and rare to see a pop superstar tell their story so authentically and without pretense,” said Janet Pierson, director of film at SXSW. “We’re privileged to present this intimate journey told with such vulnerability. As Austin-based South by Southwest shifts online this year, the SXSW Film Festival isn’t slowing down when it comes to bringing progressive, exciting, envelope-pushing — and sometimes delightfully bizarre cinema from all over the world. The film festival will kick off with the World Premiere of YouTube Originals docuseries Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil as its Opening Night Headliner. SXSW Online kicks off on March 16 and continues through March 20.
Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil explores every aspect that led to Lovato’s nearly fatal overdose in 2018, and her awakenings in the aftermath. Director Michael D. Ratner was granted unprecedented access to the superstar’s personal and musical journey during the most trying time of her life as she unearthed her prior traumas and discovered the importance of her physical, emotional, and mental health. Far deeper than an inside look beyond the celebrity surface, the docuseries is an intimate portrait of addiction,...

After last year’s South by Southwest was among the first major events to be derailed by the pandemic, the annual series of conferences and festivals is making its return with a 2021 online edition. On Thursday, festival organizers announced the first nine titles in its film and TV lineup, including a docuseries exploring Demi Lovato’s near-fatal overdose, a true-crime miniseries from Joe Berlinger, and Justine Bateman’s directorial debut starring Olivia Munn and Justin Theroux.
SXSW will offer an online program of events from March 16-20, with film screenings, conference sessions, music showcases, exhibitions, meetups, and other virtual versions of the annual festival’s mainstays.
The opening night headliner will be “Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil,” from director Michael D. Ratner. Like his “Justin Bieber: Seasons” docuseries, the Demi Lovato title is a YouTube Original. The series explores “every aspect” that led to Lovato’s nearly fatal...

The original Castle Freak was released in 1995 and directed by cult horror director Stuart Gordon who is best known for the highly entertaining Re-Animator and Dolls. Starring Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton, Castle Freak was also well received and has since picked up a cult following. A following big enough for it to receive this 2020 remake.
Now I’m not as anti-remake as many filmgoers seem to be. The horror genre has plenty of them but it has plenty of good ones too. From The Thing to The Fly to Let Me In and Dawn of the Dead, I could carry on and name more but these prove enough that remakes can be great. Unfortunately Castle Freak is far from great.

Fangoria and Full Moon are producing a remake of the classic 1995 horror film Castle Freak. This movie is considered a cult classic that centered on a horrific creature lurking within the shadows of a castle.
The original film was produced Charles Band, who hired Re-Animator director Stuart Gordon to helm it. Band had a poster created for the film project that didn’t even have a script and told Gordon he could do whatever he wanted with it as long as it had a castle and a freak in the story.
So, Gordon ended up turning it into a loose horror film adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s short story The Outsider and he cast Re-Animator stars Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton to star in it.
