HBO’s The Dark Money Game to Include Two Films

HBO has announced that its Original The Dark Money Game features two films, Ohio Confidential and Wealth of the Wicked, both directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney.

Ohio Confidential debuts on Tuesday, April 15 (9:00-11:00 p.m. Et/Pt), and Wealth of the Wicked debuts on Wednesday, April 16, at the same time. Both films will be available to stream on Max on Tuesday, April 15.

The Dark Money Game films investigate the shadowy world of political donations and fundraising 15 years after the Supreme Court’s decision in the Citizen’s United case, which enabled unlimited spending by hidden sources on many political campaigns.

The project is inspired by Jane Mayer’s book Dark Money: The Hidden History of the Billionaires Behind the Rise of the Radical Right and features interviews with journalists, including Mayer, as well as lawmakers, judges, FBI investigators, whistleblowers, and insiders on both sides of the issue.

HBO on Monday unveiled premiere dates for a pair of Alex Gibney documentaries falling under the double-bill title The Dark Money Game. Ohio Confidential debuts Tuesday, April 15 at 9 p.m. Et/Pt, and Wealth of the Wicked premieres Wednesday, April 16 at the same time. Both films will be available to stream on April 15.

Showtime will premiere its original documentary Kingdom of Silence about the 2018 murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi on October 2 – the two-year anniversary of Khashoggi’s death.

Directed by Emmy-winning Documenting Hate filmmaker Rick Rowley and exec-produced by Alex Gibney in collaboration with Lawrence Wright, Kingdom of Silence examines the relationship between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia as a backdrop to the murder of Khashoggi. ‘Kingdom of Silence’ Trailer: Showtime’s Jamal Khashoggi Doc Scrutinizes US-Saudi Relations (Video)

A day after Bryan Fogel’s documentary “The Dissident” about the murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi found a buyer and released a trailer, Showtime has released a trailer for its own Khashoggi documentary, “Kingdom of Silence.”

Showtime has also set a release date for “Kingdom of Silence” on October 2, the second anniversary of Khashoggi’s death.

“Kingdom of Silence” is directed by “Dirty Wars” and “16 Shots” director Rick Rowley and is executive produced by Alex Gibney and author Lawrence Wright, and while it too examines the details surrounding Khashoggi’s death at the hands of the Saudi Arabia regime, this film focuses more on the complicated relationship between Saudi Arabia and the United States.

Global golfing icon Tiger Wood’s journey through success, scandal, injuries and one of the most amazing comebacks in sports history will be detailed in a two-part documentary series from HBO Sports and executive producer Alex Gibney.

Tiger is now in production and anticipated to bow on Dec. 13 and Dec. 20 on HBO. It will also be available to stream on HBO Max.

Monica Lewinsky To Star In A&E Doc Series ‘The Impeachment of Bill Clinton’
A&E has pulled off a coup by securing Monica Lewinsky to feature in six-part documentary The Impeachment of Bill Clinton (w/t).

The cable network has ordered the series from Alex Gibney’s Jigsaw Productions, Jemina Khan’s Instinct Productions and Emmy-winning director Blair Foster (Rolling Stone: Stories From The Edge). It will weave together never-seen-before archival footage with exclusive new interviews, of which Lewinsky’s appearance is the most high-profile.

Beginning November 18, the limited doc series will explore the biggest political scandal of its generation and look at broader topics including media, feminism, politics and power. It will investigate the history leading up to the impeachment trial and chronicles the role each of these forces played in this story of sex, power, money, lies and ideological warfare.

The doc series comes a few months after A&E sister network History scrapped its planned drama series, The Breach, about the same subject.

Before The Flood, executive produced by Martin Scorsese, to get European premiere in London.

The BFI London Film Festival (Oct 5 – 16) will host the European premiere of environmental documentary Before The Flood by Fisher Stevens and Leonardo DiCaprio.

The special presentation addition will screen on Saturday 15 October.

Actor-producer-director Stevens directs the feature, produced by DiCaprio, about how climate change affects our environment and what society can do prevent the demise of endangered species, ecosystems and native communities across the planet.

The National Geographic presentation is made with Ratpac Documentary Films and Appian Way in association with Insurgent docs and Diamond docs.

Executive music producers are Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross and executive producers include Martin Scorsese, Adam Bardach, Mark Monroe and Zara Duffy. Produced are DiCaprio, Fisher Stevens, Trevor Davidoski, Jennifer Davisson, Brett Ratner and James Packer.
