Richard Gadd’s BBC and HBO drama Half Man has rounded out its cast.

Mitchell Robertson, Stuart Campbell, Neve McIntosh, Marianne McIvor, Charlie De Melo, Bilal Hasna, Julie Cullen, Philippine Velge, Stuart McQuarrie, Amy Manson, Piers Ewart, Scot Greenan, Charlotte Blackwood and Calum Manchip have all boarded the series.

The show is a six-parter in which Baby Reindeer creator Gadd stars opposite Jamie Bell (All of Us Strangers). They play estranged ‘brothers’ Ruben and Niall over an almost 40-year period, covering the highs and lows of their relationship.

Per the synopsis: “When Ruben shows up unexpectedly at Niall’s wedding, it leads to an explosion of violence that catapults us back through their lives.”

Robertson and Campbell will play Niall (Robertson) and Ruben (Campbell) in their younger years.

“Half Man,” the upcoming six-episode HBO and BBC drama from Richard Gadd that reps the follow-up to his wildly successful Emmy winner “Baby Reindeer” (which ran on Netflix), has rounded out its cast. Gadd and Bell play estranged “brothers” Ruben and Niall, respectively, in the series, which has now started filming on location in Scotland. The BBC adaptation of Ian Rankin’s Rebus will premiere on the 18th May, with Richard Rankin (no relation) in the lead role.

A new adaptation of Ian Rankin’s detective novels, Rebus, is set to air later this month. Gregory Burke, who previously wrote Scottish drama Six Four, wrote all six episodes, which were directed by Niall MacCormick and Fiona Walton.

The new series of Rebus will be a prequel which focuses on the detective in his younger years, as he rises up the ranks in Edinburgh.

Richard Rankin (no relation to author Ian) stars as Rebus, alongside Lucie Shorthouse, Brian Ferguson, Amy Manson, Neshla Caplan, Noof Ousellam, Stuart Bowman, Caroline Lee Johnson, Sean Buchanan, Thoren Ferguson and Michelle Duncan.

The BBC has acquired crime drama series Rebus, a new adaptation of the best-selling Inspector Rebus novels by Scottish author Ian Rankin, starring Richard Rankin (Outlander, The Replacement) in the lead role.

Exclusive: The BBC has bought Viaplay’s Rebus reboot, following international streamer Viaplay’s decision to exit the UK. In further news, we can reveal Australia’s Sbs has also acquired the show from distributor Viaplay Content Distribution.

HBO and HBO Max are becoming very unpredictable.

Ever since the Warner Bros. Discovery merger, there have been plenty of controversial decisions from the higher-ups at the company.

If you thought Minx was the only cancellation this week, then we have bad news.

HBO Max has split up with Love Life, canceling the romantic anthology after two seasons.

The writing had been on the wall with the lack of updates following the Season 2 finale back in November 2021.

The first season was headlined by Anna Kendrick, while the second had William Jackson Harper at the forefront.

The series has also been pulled from HBO Max, meaning there's a chance fans will never get to rewatch the series again.

Sam Boyd, the creator and co-showrunner, reflected on the cancellation on Twitter.

Joss Whedon’s The Nevers is being pulled from HBO Max, TVLine has confirmed, essentially bringing the HBO sci-fi drama to an end after one season.

Only the first half of the show’s 12-episode order has aired, and Variety reports that the remaining six could eventually stream on another platform.

Intent on healing somewhere without prying eyes, Veronica alights for a solitary retreat in the middle of Scotland with only a young nurse in tow. Desi (Kota Eberhardt) isn’t at all impressed by her employer’s pedigree; she just wants to ensure her new charge takes care of herself, a much bigger ask than she could have possibly anticipated.

While initially thought to be vanity, Veronica Ghent’s (Alice Krige) cold cruelty towards her nurse Desi (Kota Eberhardt) and stubborn defiance about her recovery from a double mastectomy is ultimately revealed as survival. Thus, recovery isn’t just about the physical side. It’s very much psychological too. Veronica will deal with the pain of prosthetic breasts despite Desi’s warnings to combat the media scrutiny. Kristen Stewart channels Princess Diana with aplomb in the first trailer for “Spencer,” an upcoming biographical drama about the beloved royal.

The movie, directed by “Jackie” filmmaker Pablo Larrain, is set in 1991 and takes place over the Christmas holiday as Diana (born Diana Frances Spencer) grapples with the decision to end her marriage to Prince Charles. English actor Jack Farthing is starring alongside Stewart as the heir apparent to the British throne.

First-look photos of Stewart as Diana have set the internet ablaze, but film fans had been eagerly waiting to hear the American actor’s take on Diana’s British accent. Yet it appears the companies behind “Spencer,” Neon and Topic Studios, want to keep people guessing since Stewart only utters two words in the minute-long trailer.

“They know everything,” Sally Hawkins, who plays an undisclosed role that appears to be a confidant to the Princess of Wales, tells Diana.

Neon has shared the first poster for their upcoming biographical drama about Princess Diana, Spencer, and it is quite heart-breaking. Depicting the People's Princess, played in the movie by Twilight and Personal Shopper star Kristen Stewart, in an elaborate dress, Diana has been reduced to despair as she sits on the ground and turns her face away. The poster also reveals that Spencer is now scheduled to be theatrically released in the United States on 5 November 2021.

The bright, sparkling garment is striking against the empty, black background, and is no doubt indicative of the emotional journey to come. Production will begin on Part 2 of the first season of HBO’s “The Nevers” on Tuesday in the U.K., TheWrap has learned exclusively.

Season 1A of the Joss Whedon-created sci-fi series, which stars Laura Donnelly and Ann Skelly, was shot last year, with a pandemic-forced shutdown hitting after Episode 6 was completed. New showrunner Philippa Goslett, who took over for Whedon in January following his exit from the show last fall, mapped out the back half of the first season of “The Nevers” with her writers’ room while Part 1 was premiering on HBO this spring.

Donnelly, Skelly and the rest of “The Nevers” cast are all returning for Part 2, which consists of six episodes that will pick up where the final episode of Part 1 left off when it aired on May 16. “Roles like this never come along where you have such complexity in a character,” says actress Laura Donnelly of her role in “The Nevers.” She portrays Amalia True in the HBO period/sci-fi mashup. Amalia at times gets glimpses of future events, beats down bad guys, and harbors other identities that are revealed as the series goes on. “Complexity” might be an understatement. “I don’t think I’ve ever had a character affect me the way that Maladie has,” explains Amy Manson. The actress is responsible for bringing the unhinged villain of HBO’s “The Nevers” to life. The Nevers is a series that often defies description. A Victorian-set fantasy adventure that features a gang of primarily young women who gain supernatural and superhuman abilities, it’s a story about everything from faith and prejudice to hope and change. Its narrative is sprawling and frequently confusing, with no real initial sense of how its disparate pieces connect to one another. (Or don’t.) And it features at least a dozen major characters who run the gamut from heroes to villains – and sometimes both at once.

There’s the mysterious Amalia True (Laura Donnelly) who runs an orphanage devoted to helping the gifted known as “The Touched” find refuge, safety, and something like a family, and the mad murderess known as Maladie (Amy Manson) who claims to have seen a God that asks her to kill.

On paper, the idea of a steampunk superhero show that mixes period-set grittiness with ladies punching things seems like it should be a slam dunk. After all, most narratives about people gifted with sudden superhuman abilities are really just stories about power in fancier than usual dress. Shows like these examine who traditionally possesses power, who is allowed to wield it, how it is often used to prop up the privileged that already have it.

And where better to explore these issues than Victorian England? The foggy nineteenth-century streets of London work so well as a frequent backdrop for stories that explore magic or other otherworldly themes – think Penny Dreadful, The Irregulars, and Carnival Row – precisely because this is such a fascinating, specific time of transformation. Innovation spreads through the worlds of science and industry at a speed that often feels indistinguishable from magic.

Say what you will about HBO’s latest fantasy series The Nevers, but one thing cannot be denied: it’s got some great names. While original creator Joss Whedon and his questionable legacy have departed the project, he left behind some truly fascinating characters and character names for the show to work with.

The series lead is a tough, competent, and confident leader of misfits. What better name for such a person than the sturdy “Amalia True?” Amalia’s best friend is a sweet, sincere, and pious young woman whose name is the equal parts melodious and methodical “Penance Adair.” And what would you call a no-nonsense detective with the weight of the world on his shoulders? The Nevers Episode 1

Who is The Nevers for? Not kids, clearly. The frolicsome humour, cartoony performances and grade school social commentary might suggest so, but the nudity, cursing and blood say no. It’s meant for adults then, those of us happy to go along with the essential YA-ness of its ‘Victorian orphanage for superpowered misfits’ premise.

Episode one opens with a flashback montage introducing the ensemble of – mostly but not all – women in 1890s London. One repairs a broken pump with a clothespin, another queues for an opera audition, another is led away to an asylum, while another drops willingly into the Thames. By the end of the hour we learn that this was the moment that three years earlier, a mysterious and possibly alien airship passed over London trailing glittering motes that entered some and left them with a unique special ability.

On Aug. 3, 1896, a mysterious event takes place in London, turning a seemingly random group of people from ordinary citizens into a superpowered subgroup that becomes known as “the touched.”

What the touched do with their newfound abilities, and how society reacts to them, is the basis for HBO’s The Nevers, which premiered Sunday on HBO. In a moment, we’ll want to know what you thought of the fantasy drama, which was created by Buffy the Vampire Slayer‘s Joss Whedon. But first, a quick recap of the first episode.

“The Nevers” never tells you what “the nevers” actually means. Granted, only four episodes were screened for critics, so there could be a big reveal right around the corner, and creator Joss Whedon did put forth a rather high-sounding justification at Comic-Con 2018, but the impossibly plural root word never comes up in the show itself. Such a deliberately perplexing choice is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to confusing elements made within Whedon’s first (and likely last) HBO series.
