“This is the perfect opportunity for us to make reality ‘real’ again,” says Peter Tierney, the commissioner who has spent the past two years overseeing ITV’s rebooted Big Brother.
Speaking as ITV prepares to become the third UK network to premiere the world-beating format, Tierney says his team have listened relentlessly to audiences “telling us that they want real, authentic reality.”
“They are aware of the way in which [some of] these shows are made, the directions you can push contestants in and the hands of the producer,” he adds. “But Big Brother presents us with the perfect opportunity to make reality ‘real’ again, providing a better opportunity for an environment that is conducive to real life than many other reality shows afford you.”

"Don't you think you should be getting some rest?" Screen Media has revealed a new official US trailer for a wacky British comedy titled The Nan Movie, opening in the US later this month (in theaters + on VOD). Does anyone in the US even know who this "Nan" is or anything about her comedy? She is from a BBC spin-off series of specials following the character "Joannie Taylor" from the original sketch comedy series "The Catherine Tate Show". The movie is "an origin story that mixes Nan's present with her past where we finally find out what’s made her the cantankerous old b*****d she is today." She embarks on a roadtrip to Ireland with her grandson to make amends with her estranged sister. Catherine Tate stars, reprising her role as the "foul mouthed pensioner", with Matthew Horne, Pete Bennett, and Katherine Parkinson. This looks so uncomfortably annoying and extra unfunny,...

Former Big Brother UK winner Pete Bennett broke down in tears as he mourned the death of his co-star and ex, Nikki Grahame. The 38-year-old contestant died on Friday, April 9, weeks after checking into a private clinic amid a longtime battle with anorexia that had worsened during the coronavirus pandemic this past year. Pete began a brief romance with Nikki when they competed on Big Brother UK season seven in 2006. They met up again one month ago for a friendly reunion. He recently helped promote a crowdfunding page in which more than $94,000 was raised to pay for her treatment. "We got loads of money and the amount of love and support for Nikki was overwhelming," Pete, 39, said in an...

If there’s one downside to the great news that Jodie Whittaker is joining Doctor Who as its first ever female Doctor this Christmas, it means that we don’t have much longer left with the amazing Peter Capaldi. The Scottish actor has proven himself born to play the part of the centuries-old Time Lord over the past three seasons and his performance has been reliably brilliant throughout.
There’s another important changeover to keep in mind, though, as this year’s Christmas special will also be the last episode helmed by Steven Moffat as showrunner after working on the hit series for six seasons. That’s a long time to spend on a project, especially one as time consuming as this, and the writer/director is clearly getting a bit emotional as his job comes to an end.

How do you go about directing an episode of Doctor Who? We chat to Lawrence Gough, director of series 10's The Pilot and Smile to find out.
The first two episodes of the current Doctor Who run, The Pilot and Smile, were both directed by the same man. That man is Lawrence Gough, who comes to Doctor Who for the first time, having built up an impressive collection of TV credits following his low-budget horror feature, Salvage. In between the transmission of The Pilot and Smile, he chatted to us about his work on the show…
I’ve just been watching footage of you receiving a film award from Sean Connery back in 2009!
Yes! God, yes.
That was a Trailblazers award from the Edinburgh Film Festival eight years ago, and since then, you seem to have had quite a journey. Can you take us through it?

Speaking to Digital Spy and others, when asked what it was about Nick that she liked so much, Grahame admitted that Nick reminded her of her ex, former Big Brother winner Pete Bennett.
Big Brother Nikki Grahame interview: 'Helen needs help - I hope she gets well soon'
"He really reminds me of Pete in some ways," she said. "He's just so innocent and just so loving. I just want to look after him!"
She also appeared unaware of Harry's jealousy at their closeness, saying: "See, I didn't know about that. People have told me since I've come out some of the stuff she was saying, but she was really nice to me in the house. I got on with her.

Big Brother's Time Warp week has already given us three ex-housemates in Helen Wood, Brian Belo and Nikki Grahame - but that wasn't quite enough, so as part of yesterday's shopping task, a whole bunch of other ones popped in for a party.
Yesterday's task demanded that the housemates freeze whenever instructed to do so - and conveniently, that's just when Big Brother decided to send in some familiar faces. But how many do you remember?
First up was Pete Bennett, who swung by the house to try to distract his former flame Nikki Grahame - and it looks like he managed to get her giggling.
But he was far from the only ex-housemate to pop in, as Big Brother 1's Craig Phillips led a whole host of familiar faces in for a bit of a party.

Former Big Brother winner Pete Bennett made a surprise return to the house, shocking an emotional Nikki Grahame.
Pete, who appeared in the seventh series and dated Nikki, appeared as part of this week's shopping task.
Yesterday (June 17), the housemates were required to freeze in place whenever they hear the 'Time Warp' machine activating.
During one of the activations, Pete entered and made a beeline for Nikki, who struggled to keep her composure.
He spent his brief time in the house talking at Nikki, at one point applying lipstick and giving his ex-girlfriend a kiss on the cheek.
Big Brother continues tonight on Channel 5.

In a few short hours, one of six housemates will go down in the Big Brother history books as the 15th winner of the show (alright, so it's not like they'll be studied in schools or anything, but it's something, right?). But where will they fit in the record? Will they be a worthy winner, or a disappointment? Will they be looked back on with glee or with grimaces?
That remains to be seen, but in the meantime we have 14 winners to rank. Who is the best? Who is the worst? We're not going to claim this is definitive - we switched our own minds around about 27 times just while compiling our running order - but take to the comments to give us your views. And so, in order from worst to best, here we go...

Big Brother contestant Sam Evans, a 23-year-old partially deaf Welsh footballer, has been named the early favourite to win after the first show of this year's double launch last night (June 13).
But with a good three months or so still to come and six more housemates going in tonight, should we even bother listening to the bookmakers? Intrigued, Digital Spy went back over the last five years of Big Brother to see how the launch night odds matched up with the eventual results of the series - and found some surprising results...

Launch night favourite: Luke Anderson (5/1)
Eventual finish: Winner
Congratulations bookmakers, last year you got it spot on by naming eventual winner Luke Anderson as the early favourite. But don't go slapping yourselves on the back too soon - reports claimed that the South African-born chef was an outsider at 16/1 before the game-changing revelation that he was born a woman.

We’ve been waiting all day and at 9.55pm this evening, this year’s first full length Big Brother promo aired on Channel 5.
It was like a who’s who of famous Bb faces from years gone by and we had quite a lot of fun spotting and naming some of our favourite (and also most annoying) housemates.
We have compiled most of them in a list below, though we know there are some names missing, so feel free to leave a comment below if you can identify any more.
The video starts out with Makosi on the phone and leads into various cast members dancing and miming to an adaptation of David Guetta’s popular dance track – When Love Takes Over renamed When Bruv Takes Over and at the end, as all the Bb stars gathered in what looked like a massive field, Marcus Bentley exclaimed:

It has been a big week for Big Brother UK fans!
In the last two days we have discovered that Brian Dowling will present the new series, Emma Willis will take on it’s comedic spin off, Marcus Bentley will return as ‘the voice’ and today, Channel 5 has revealed it’s all new Big Brother logo, ahead of the show’s launch on the channel this August.
The show will be making it’s return to it’s old home at Elstree Studios – just beside the local Tesco store – and it’s move between terrestrial channels will be marked by a celebrity packed series on August 18th, directly followed by a season of ‘classic’ Big Brother, featuring members of the public.
The new logo will be used for both series and will first appear on air from today in ‘teases’ during commercial breaks on Channel 5.

Vanessa Feltz’s husband has revealed that he thinks his wife can avoid a breakdown during her return to Big Brother.
The TV presenter famously suffered a meltdown on Celebrity Bb one, which saw her ranting and furiously scrawling strange messages all over the kitchen table. Many had speculated that Vanessa may not be able to cope after she re-entered the house last night. However her hubby Ben Ofoedu says that she was going through a difficult time in her life in 2001 and insists that Feltz is a much stronger person now.
He told The Express:
“Last time she was on the show she had a very public breakdown and there is always that fear it could happen again.
“She doesn’t like to be away from friends and family and I hope we don’t see a repeat of nine years ago but she is a much stronger person now.

Big Brother winner Josie Gibson has admitted that she is worried about how much John James Parton has changed since leaving the show.
The Bristol lass won BB11 on Tuesday and went straight back into the house to compete in Ultimate Big Brother with a group of famous housemates.
However as Nadia and John insisted that John didn’t like her as much as she liked him and others informed her that he now has an agent and is’ hoping to become an underwear model, Josie began to doubt that they would have any sort of relationship on the outside.

Nikki tried to defend John, saying that he was being besieged by the press and would need someone who knew what they were doing to help him out.

As the group tried to choose a sleeping place last night, Brian Dowling and Nikki Grahame discovered that they were sitting on the bed once shared by Bb lovebirds John James and Josie.
The revelation prompted the pair to dive under the covers and begin doing impressions of the loved up pair, with Brian shouting:
“This is what we had to watch for the last eleven weeks.”
Josie laughed heartily in the corner and by the looks of it, she seems to be a sure fire hit with her new famous friends.

Nikki Grahame returned for Ultimate Big Brother tonight.
The 28 year old rose to fame when she was chosen to be a housemate on Big Brother 7 in 2006. She was originally evicted on day 58 but was later returned to the house and finished in fifth place.
Nikki was famed for her temper and for her relationship with Pete Bennett. Since appearing on the show, she has also appeared on Celebrity Scissorhands, 8 Out Of 10 Cats and The Weakest Link, and a Channel 4 poll named her the 12th most “written about” person of 2006 in the UK.
As she entered Ultimate Bb tonight, John McCririck blasted her:
‘You’d better not pull your tantrums with me missy. I just won’t stand for it!’
Nikki was hoping to be incarcerated with Michelle Bass and Brian Dowling, but said that she didn’t think she could cope if forced to spend any time with Chantelle Houghton.

Brian Dowling has hinted that he will be appearing on tonight’s Ultimate Big Brother, admitting that he would be ‘angry’ if he missed it.
The 32-year-old tv presenter, won the second series of the Channel 4 reality TV show in 2001. He is expected to be in the lineup for the show’s final stretch this evening.
“If I didn’t go on I’d be so angry,” he told Star magazine.
“It’d be me with a bottle of vodka watching it until the show ended.”
However, he added: “But it can all change, even up until the last minute, because they want it to be a surprise.”
Dowling also insisted that he would never have sex in the Bb house.
“I would never, ever, even for a million pounds, have sex with someone on television,” he said.
“I would never even kiss someone on television unless I was acting.

The 28-year-old, who won the seventh series of the Channel 4 reality TV show in 2006, has revealed that he was told he would be on the show, only to be dropped when more interesting characters signed up.
He told The Daily Star:
“I’m upset. I’m annoyed. I’m angry. I think it’s f***ing outrageous what they’ve done.

Swedish singer/songwriter Basshunter is reportedly entering the Celebrity Big Brother house this Sunday night.
Producers are obviously hoping for some Pete Bennett style magic, as the Swede also suffers from Tourette’s Syndrome.
Basshunter, real name Jonas Altberg, 25, was diagnosed with the condition when he was very young and in a recent interview admitted that his childhood was not an easy one.
The Daily Star quotes Jonas as saying:
“I did have a really rough time at school. There was a lot of bullying.
“I didn’t have many friends and spent a lot of time alone.
“I’ve learned how to take control over it.
‘“You could spend a week with me, 24/7 and not know I have it.
“I’ve learned how to feel when it’s coming and push it back. That took years of training.
“Don’t see it as a problem, see it as a challenge.
