"Alaska Daily" was a crime drama that tackled the issue of missing and murdered Indigenous women in Alaska, but it was unfortunately canceled before gaining momentum. The show struggled to balance the sensibilities of a network procedural and a more mature streaming show, but it provided valuable insights into the work of journalists reporting on marginalized communities. The talent of the cast, including Hilary Swank, Jeff Perry, and other notable actors, was undeniable, adding to the potential of the series despite its tonal issues.

ABC has canceled Hilary Swank-led drama series Alaska Daily after one season. The news is not surprising as the freshman series was not able to establish itself and find a sizable following.
From Tom McCarthy, the series follows fiercely talented and award-winning investigative journalist Eileen Fitzgerald (Swank) who leaves her high-profile New York life behind after a fall from grace to join a daily metro newspaper in Anchorage on a journey to find both personal and professional redemption.
As a reporter for a local metro newspaper, Eileen is investigating a cold case stacked with missing indigenous women with scarce details in desperate need of fresh eyes. The dark spaces where she has to investigate reveal the city’s seedy underbelly that could prove to be dangerous for Eileen as she begins to uncover secrets many would rather stay buried.

We have some bad news for fans of ABC's Alaska Daily.
The Hilary Swank drama has been bumped from its planned February 23 return.
Instead, the back half of the season will resume Thursday, March 2, at 10 p.m.
The reason for the switcheroo?
ABC wants to air the remaining episodes across consecutive weeks, which is probably for the best.
With the network's revamped schedule, the series will return on March 2 and wrap up its freshman season on March 30.
Given the heavily serialized nature of Alaska Daily, having random breaks will not help the series build momentum.
Procedurals like NCIS and Law & Order can thrive with more than a few hiatuses because there's very little connective tissue between episodes.

The TV creator’s equivalent of the trolley problem: A TV show is like a runaway trolley. Broadcast is still the best way to run over (or reach) the most people, and if you stay the course, you might reach (or run over) five people, but there aren’t any TV critics or Emmy voters in that direction. But if you pull the lever, you shift tracks and go down a cable or streaming direction and you may reach (or run over) only one person, but that person is really influential and might tell everybody that you’re making great art, which is bound to be gratifying (and means you didn’t kill five people, if you’re really stuck on the original analogy). As much as you might think you want to go down both tracks at once, you can’t.
Fine.

Exclusive: Peter Elkoff has joined newly ordered ABC/20th Television drama series Alaska, headlined by Hilary Swank, as executive producer and showrunner. For the past two seasons, the seasoned TV writer-producer served as executive producer and co-showrunner on another 20th TV drama series, Fox’s The Resident. Fellow exec producer/co-showrunner Andrew Chapman will be the sole showrunner for the medical drama’s upcoming sixth season.
Alaska, created by Spotlight filmmaker Tom McCarthy, who wrote and directed the pilot, emerged as an early front-runner at ABC this pilot season, making the search for a showrunner a big priority for the studio. With The Resident on the bubble as renewal negotiations between Fox and 20th TV went down to the wire, Elkoff was approached about Alaska and took the job with the 20th TV’s blessing.

It’s not often that a real dating app is used on a TV show, much less featured as prominently as it is on “Sideswiped,” but apparently YouTube and Tinder matched, and their mutually beneficial relationship has resulted in a new rom-com. Dating, especially in the digital age, is well-traveled ground, but YouTube Premium is hoping that viewers like the first date episode enough to come back for more and see the depth that is lurking beneath the pretty profile. At times awkward and depressingly realistic about navigating being single today, “Sideswiped” already shows in its first two episodes the potential for sincere insights into a range of relationships — romantic or otherwise.
New mom Jayne (Chelsea Frei) is missing the romance in her life, and thus sets up her stuffy insurance agent sister Olivia (Carly Craig) with a Tinder profile. Armed with this mobile portal to love, she’s only...

Before a busy Television Critics Association press tour day that featured the renewal of eight fall dramas for next season, The CW also announced its adjusted midseason schedule. The spring announcement includes time slots for "iZombie" and "The Messengers," a shift for "Supernatural" and a home for the new reality competition "Cedric's Barber Battle." Don't worry about "Supernatural," though. The freshly renewed series will shift to Wednesdays at 9 p.m. after "Arrow" starting on March 18. It's almost last call for the cast and crew of ABC's Mixology sitcom. The network has cancelled the new series after 11 airings.

Add The CW to the list of networks doing early housekeeping before next week's Upfronts. On Thursday (May 8) morning, one week before it will announce its full schedule to advertisers, The CW four new series pickups for next season, renewed three established series and, in the process, confirmed that three bubble shows will not be returning next year. Let's take things step-by-step: The four new dramas that will be part of The CW's schedule at some point next year are comic adaptations "The Flash" and "iZombie," plus the soap "Jane the Virgin" and pre-Apocalyptic thriller "The Messengers." The three dramas newly renewed for next season are freshman success "The 100," dramedy "Hart of Dixie" and unintentional dramedy "Beauty and the Beast." And that, in turn, means that "Star-Crossed," "The Carrie Diaries" and "The Tomorrow People" will not be back next season. It also means that "Supernatural: Bloodlines" will not be going to series,...

ABC's new comedy "Mixology" has received more than its fair share of negative reviews, but that hasn't affected two of its stars. Vanessa Lengies (Kacey) and Craig Frank (Cal) are okay with some of the heat their series has been getting.
In fact, it doesn't bother them at all. "Hey, people have opinions. That's why they were hired, to have opinions," Frank tells Zap2it. "Whether they went one way or the other, if you find the show to be something you like, that's fine, or if it's not something you like, that's fine too."
Lengies hopes that viewers stick through some more episodes to truly get a feel for what they're trying to achieve. "I think our whole show is like a movie. It's like an epic adventure that's split into 13 episodes," Lengies tells Zap2it. "It's a different format than other shows and I like that it's different.

On Wednesday, Feb. 26, ABC premieres "Mixology," a comedy set in one night in one bar -- high-end Manhattan watering hole Mix -- as 10 single people try to find love, or at least lust.
Blake Lee stars as Tom, a man recently dumped by his fiancee, whose friends -- confident Cal (Craig Frank) and fast-talking Bruce (Andrew Santino) -- are tossing him into the singles pool after a decade off the market. First, he meets beautiful but brutal attorney Maya (Ginger Gonzaga), which leaves him in tears. It gets worse after that.
"Cal is the more levelheaded, clear-thinking man," Santino tells Zap2it, "and Tom is very impulsive and nervous and riddled with anxiety, and Bruce is the devil on his shoulder, if you will. I'm trying to get Tom to do something he's not used to. Instead of putting his feet in the water, I tell him to jump all...

Mixology Review
ABC‘s self-proclaimed “high-concept” comedy, Mixology, is a combination of 24 and Love Actually, but for a somewhat younger crowd than either. Actually, the target demographic might be up in the air, as the ages of, and dialog from, some of the characters pushes the upper region of the key television audience.
At any rate, the series takes place during a single night, in a single location, as 10 strangers enjoy an evening at a local bar, trying to pick up, get picked up, or otherwise figure out how to find love… or something.
Tom (Blake Lee) was recently dumped by his fiancee, and his friends, Cal (Craig Frank) and Bruce (Andrew Santino), are taking him out to get him back on the horse. Tom is about as lost as a guy can be in such a situation, especially after being out of the game for so long, but it...

Ryan Seacrest may have a number of producer credits under his belt, but the Hollywood vet was seriously schooled when he recently attempted to promote his new show Mixology. "Hello gorgeous, listen, we've been brainstorming marketing ideas and we've got a great one for the show and as you know, you're our favorite producer," Andrew Santino, who plays Bruce on the upcoming ABC comedy, tells Seacrest in a new promo clip before costars Blake Lee and Craig Frank inform the Idol host that their secret to success is "the giant arrow." "How Not to Promote a TV Show," indeed. The clip then cuts to Seacrest, Lee, Frank and Santino standing out on the street as Seacrest...

Earlier this month, ABC ordered four more episodes of Super Fun Night. What will fill the Wednesday night timeslot after that?
The network has announced that their new sitcom, Mixology, will premiere on Wednesday, February 26th, at 9:30pm. The network describes it this way:
One bar. One night. Ten single people. Welcome to Mix, a high-end bar in Manhattan's trendy meat-packing district. Recently dumped by his fiancée, Tom (Blake Lee) hasn't been out on the town in a decade. His best friends, handsome, confident Cal (Craig Frank) and fast-talking Bruce (Andrew Santino), are throwing Tom back into the dating pool whether he likes it or not. Tom's first encounter is with Maya (Ginger Gonzaga), an attorney who's as beautiful as she is brutal -- before long, Tom is in tears. After that, it only gets worse.

ABC’s Mixology is mixing things up by adding a new series regular to the already bursting cast. The comedy series revolves around the exploits of ten singles – five guys and five girls – as they search for love in a sexy Manhattan bar in the course of one night. At least, it was ten singles before the eleventh cast member was added, shaking things up just enough that the dynamics of some characters might have changed, but the overall concept remains untouched. Everyone is still single and looking to make a connection with another, hopefully, single person. And Frankie Shaw will now be there to make everyone feel extremely awkward.

At ABC‘s upfront, there were a few things that the network wanted to make sure you knew. 1) They are really impressed with the idea that people are going to watch Rebel Wilson do just about anything, and 2) There isn’t anything they’re happier about than bringing you more episodes of television created by Shonda Rhimes.
On these notes, the network would love for you to know that more Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal are coming your way. These, ABC would like to impress upon you (as advertisers) are really good shows. Because… hellllooo… so many people watch them that we’re bringing them back. But wait, don’t think that you’re as excited as you can get yet, because if those are your favorite shows, then we have a new one for you to fall in love with, Betrayal.
Also on the agenda, and actually looking like they might be interesting,...
