David Max Brown produced South Africa's submission to the 2017 Foreign Language Oscar - "Noem My Skollie/ Call Me Thief". The film was a popular hit at the South African theatrical box office and won many international awards including the Audience Award at Film Afrika in London. In 2020 it was selected by four African film festivals in the UK in the top-ten African films of the past 10 years, "We are Tano(10)". David also produced Zola Maseko's second feature film, "The Whale Caller" in 2016 and in 2014 he produced "Skeem Saam", a daily show on that is still one of the most popular television shows on South African television. Since 2017 he has been Head of Film and TV at the AFDA film school in Cape Town and is working with director Oliver Schmitz and producers Tendeka Matatu and Alexandra Stone on a feature film, "The Unlikely Gunrunner", which is based on a documentary he produced in 2001, "The Secret Safari" about how the ANC smuggled tons of weapons into South Africa using unsuspecting tourists as the cover.
