NBC News and MSNBC’s Chuck Todd is one of the nation’s top trending topics on X/Twitter right now, thanks to a scathing rebuke of Joe Biden that’s going viral. In a video shared by CNN’s Chris Cillizza, Todd blasted the president for reversing course and pardoning his son Hunter Biden, who’d been awaiting sentencing for federal gun and tax evasion charges. And the former Meet the Press host also blasted Biden for running for office in the first place. Todd blasted Hunter Biden for engaging in a relationship with his late brother Beau Biden’s widow that devolved into mutual drug abuse. “I followed the Hunter Biden trial very closely,” Todd said. “You read the Hallie Biden transcript, and that’s Beau’s widow. A federal judge dismissed Donald Trump’s $475 million defamation lawsuit against CNN, litigation centered on references made by on-air figures to “the Big Lie,” or the former president’s unfounded claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him.
Trump had argued in his lawsuit, filed in federal court in Florida, that the references to the phrase were defamatory as they created a “false and incendiary association” between him and Adolf Hitler.
U.S. District Judge Raag Singhal wrote that CNN’s references to the term “the Big Lie” were matters of opinion, not fact.
The judge wrote, “Trump complains that CNN described his election challenges as ‘the Big Lie.’ Trump argues that ‘the Big Lie’ is a phrase attributed to Joseph Goebbels and that CNN’s use of the phrase wrongly links Trump with the Hitler regime in the public eye. This is a stacking of inferences that cannot support a finding of falsehood.

Barbara Starr, the longtime Pentagon correspondent for CNN, is departing the network.
She wrote in a memo to staffers, “To my many colleagues and friends, With the expiration of my contract in the coming days I have made the decision to move on. Let me say this…you never say goodbye to your friends, so I won’t.” CNN’s Oliver Darcy first reported on her exit, and the network confirmed it.
Starr joined CNN in 2001, having joined from ABC News where she worked as a producer.
Her exit follows the layoff of hundreds of employees last week, including veteran correspondent Martin Savage and political analyst Chris Cillizza. Another on-air figure, Ana Cabrera, also is looking to leave the network when her contract expires, according to sources.

The hundreds of layoffs at CNN this week were, as CNN boss Chris Licht predicted, a “gut punch,” but the question for staffers — and viewers — is what will happen next.
For viewers, the changes may be apparent in a number of ways, particularly at Hln, where the Robin Meade-anchored Morning Express is ending and Meade, whose first day on air at Hln was Sept. 11, 2001, is departing along with staffers. Instead, CNN will replace the morning show with a simulcast of CNN This Morning, the relaunched version of New Day. Hln, which was formerly the newscast-dominated Headline News, had shifted for the rest of the day to largely a format of true-crime shows, something that resembles Warner Bros Discovery sibling network ID. So it wasn’t a complete surprise that ID would take on responsibilities for the true-crime block.

CNN Worldwide Chairman and CEO Chris Licht outlined the network’s changes as the network went through a significant round of job cuts.
“At the highest level, the goal is to direct our resources to best serve and grow audiences for our core news programming and products,” Licht wrote in a memo to staffers on Thursday.
“To achieve these goals, we will be reducing open job positions, reimagining our workflows and aligning our staffing, investments and focus around three key strategic priorities: programming, newsgathering and digital. All decisions are designed to strengthen the core of our business.”
A couple of hundred positions were impacted by job cuts on Wednesday and Thursday, including paid contributors and salaried employees. Among those departing are political analyst Chris Cillizza and anchor, correspondent Martin Savidge and Hln’s Robin Meade.

Updated: Some of the major cutbacks at CNN are occurring at Hln, which will cease live programming, while its true crime line up will be merged with Investigation Discovery to produce its true-crime slate.
A simulcast of CNN This Morning will take the place of Hln Morning Express with Robin Meade, according to a source with knowledge of the plans. Meade is leaving the network along with staffers who were part of the layoffs, and Weekend Express also will be dropped from the schedule. The true crime programming will move to Warner Bros. CNN will no longer produce live programming on its Hln network in the latest round of intense budget slashing and layoffs. With that decision comes the end of Morning Express with Robin Meade, and the anchor will be leaving the network after two decades on air. A simulcast of CNN This Morning will take the Morning Express time slot, according to Variety. Hln’s true-crime programming will remain but will now be produced in partnership with Investigation Discovery. In addition to Meade’s departure, a handful of correspondents and journalists were also laid off from the network in the Thursday, December 1 cuts. CNN correspondents Alison Kosik, Martin Savidge, Alex Field, Mary Ann Fox, and Chris Cillizza are reportedly among those let go. Additionally, up-and-coming daytime anchor Ana Cabrera will reportedly leave CNN for NBC News, per a separate Variety report, and will likely end up at MSNBC. Cabrera has anchored CNN Newsroom’s 1 p.

CNN’s cost-cutting efforts are expected to have significant effects on the cable network Hln, according to four people familiar with the matter, with potential ramifications for one of the nation’s longest-running morning programs.

Donald Trump fired off his latest defamation lawsuit against a news outlet Monday, this time seeking 475 million in punitive damages from CNN over what his lawyers say was an effort to “defame the Plaintiff in the minds of its viewers and readers for the purpose of defeating him politically.”
Trump’s lawsuit (read it here) focuses on references made by CNN on-air figures to the “Big Lie,” or the former president’s unfounded claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him. Trump contends that the references compare him to Adolf Hitler.
“CNN’s highly defamatory and persistent association of the Plaintiff to Hitler and Hitler’s ‘Big Lie’ is no mistaken misappropriation,” Trump’s attorneys write. “It is wanton and malicious ‘reporting’ intended to feed a narrative and to achieve a desired end: to cause readers and viewers to associate the Plaintiff with the lowest of low, to fear him,...

CNN will launch its streaming service, CNN+, next year, the network announced Monday. CNN+ will debut in the first quarter of 2022.
“CNN invented cable news in 1980, defined online news in 1995 and now is taking an important step in expanding what news can be by launching a direct-to-consumer streaming subscription service in 2022,” said Jeff Zucker, Chairman of WarnerMedia News and Sports and President of CNN Worldwide, in a Monday statement.
He went on, “As the most trusted and recognized name in news, CNN has unrivaled global reach, world class talent and a deep existing library of content including award winning series and films. On top of a television offering that has never been stronger, which remains at the core of what we do today, we will offer consumers a streaming product that grows the reach and scope of the CNN brand in a way that no one else is doing. Nothing like this exists.

As President Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Joe Biden faced off for a first time on Tuesday night, ’twas not a great debate — almost regardless of your political stipe.
Perhaps anyone who envisioned a modulated stating and debating of ideas between the diametrically opposed candidates was kidding themselves. And for those who were, that pollyanna forecast was clouded from jump, as interruptions, name calling and disregard for the debate format/rules (agreed to by both campaigns, as moderator Chris Wallace often reminded us) polluted most of the long 90 minutes.

Refresh for updates Tom Bergeron, the longtime host of ABC’s Dancing With The Stars, isn’t happy with the booking of Sean Spicer, Donald Trump’s former White House press secretary, as a contestant for the upcoming season.
In a tweet today following the casting announcement, Bergeron wrote that he had hoped the upcoming 28 season “would be a joyful respite from our exhausting political climate and free of inevitably divisive bookings from Any party affiliations.”
In fact, Bergeron said he left a lunch with the show’s new executive producer (that would be Andrew Llinares) a few months ago and thought they were in agreement.

One of the first things you learn covering American politicians is that they’re not terribly bright.
The notion that Hill denizens are brilliant 4-d chess players is pure myth, the product of too many press hagiographies of the Game Change variety and too many Hollywood fantasies like House of Cards and West Wing.
The average American politician would lose at checkers to a zoo gorilla. They’re usually in office for one reason: someone with money sent them there, often to vote yes on a key appropriation bill or two.

Americans are plagued by the belief that racism is best proven through speech. If there is no recording of a store clerk or police officer (or president) using a racial slur, then there’s nothing to discuss. Defining racism as who does or does not say “nigger,” for instance, boils bigotry down to mere language rather than realizing it is a more silent and comprehensive web of oppression. For people like Donald Trump and Omarosa Manigault Newman, the current “nigger” debate is almost made-for-tv in its simplicity.

After having tweeted a racist remark and then apologizing for it on Tuesday morning, actress Roseanne Barr got on the phone with a group of executives who would decide her fate.
The group included her longtime agent John Burnham, her manager James Moore, Disney-ABC Group President Ben Sherwood and “Roseanne” executive producer Tom Werner.
They wanted to know something simple: what was she thinking in comparing former Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett to the Muslim Brotherhood and “Planet of the Apes” on her Twitter account?
Barr admitted that she was wrong. “I was stupid. Ignorant. It was a mistake. I feel terrible,” she told them, according to an individual with knowledge of the call.

After President Donald Trump’s new personal brawler/lawyer Rudy Giuliani spent the weekend trying to pull out of his mouth the foot he’d swallowed during last week’s gobsmacking Hannity appearance, and Stormy Daniels made her Saturday Night Live debut in an all-star cold opening, Trump kicked off this week punching on Twitter.
“The Russia Witch Hunt is rapidly losing credibility. House Intelligence Committee found No Collusion, Coordination or anything else with Russia,” Trump tweeted. “So now the Probe says Ok, what else is there? How about Obstruction for a made up, phony crime. There is no O, it’s called Fighting Back.”
“The 13 Angry Democrats in charge of the Russian Witch Hunt are starting to find out that there is a Court System in place that actually protects people from injustice,” Trump added. “…and just wait ’till the Courts get to see your unrevealed Conflict of Interest!

Not to be outdone by Merriam-Webster, Dictionary.com just took to Twitter to do a little Trump-trolling of its own.
Linking to a video of Donald Trump, well, bragging about how “non-braggadocious” he is during a speech Monday in Cincinnati, Dictionary.com tweeted out the definition of the word and seemed to imply that it’s actually a very fitting way to describe the president’s persona.
“Braggadocious = Boastful; speaking with exaggeration and excessive pride, especially about oneself. #Trump,” said the tweet.

President Donald Trump has repeatedly given not-so-flattering monikers to his political enemies. Hillary Clinton was dubbed “Crooked Hillary,” Ted Cruz was nicknamed “Lyin’ Ted” and Bernie Sanders was labeled “Crazy Bernie.”
And now, the time has come for someone who, up until a few months ago, was one of Trump’s top advisers and closest allies: Steve Bannon.
The new name came, like the bulk of Trump’s most talked-about moments, on Twitter.
Trump insisted that he did not allow Michael Wolff, who wrote the explosive new book Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, access to the White House.

Mike Pence is no stranger to heaping praise on boss Donald Trump, but if you ask Twitter, the vice president outdid himself on Wednesday when he gave fawning remarks about the president at a cabinet meeting following the passage of the contentious Gop tax bill.
After touting his own accomplishments, Trump turned the mic over to Pence and asked him to “say a few words.”
Pence delivered, crediting Trump with “restoring American credibility on the world stage,” spurring record-setting optimism, signing “more bills rolling back federal red tape than any president in American history” and “fighting every day for the...

President Donald Trump had more than a little trouble pulling off a traditional multi-leader handshake at an international conference in the Philippines on Monday.
During the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit in Manila, attending world leaders were invited on stage for the conference’s customary group handshake, in which the heads of state cross their arms and join hands with their counterparts.
The Associated Press reported that “the announcer’s instructions briefly baffled Trump” — a struggle that was also made abundantly clear in photos and footage of the moment.

Counter-programming? President Donald Trump will stage a Big rally in Pennsylvania next Saturday night, which just so happens to be the evening of the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner that he’s already rebuffed.
Trump had already broken with tradition by announcing, in February, that he wouldn’t attend the April 29 roast-y dinner with the journalists he so forthrightly dislikes. His staff soon followed suit, and various high-profile media outlets cancelled their usual shindigs.
The dinner, though, will go on, with Daily Show comedian Hasan Minhaj hosting. Also that night, Samantha Bee will host a Not The White House Correspondents Dinner at 10 p.m. Et on TBS.
Trump’s announcement was made today on, naturally, Twitter. In a separate tweet he said he’ll be announcing tax reforms this week, though the topic of the Saturday rally was not specified.

After Hillary Clinton's pneumonia diagnosis was belatedly disclosed on Sunday, supporters are rallying around the Democratic nominee and saying her commitment to campaigning through the illness proves she's "tough as hell."
