High-concept horror film “Rosario” is getting a stellar cast. David Dastmalchian (“Oppenheimer“), José Zúñiga (“Twilight”), Diana Lein (“Fear the Walking Dead”), Paul Ben-Victor (“The Irishman”) and Emilia Faucher (“Coda”) will join rising star Emeraude Toubia (“Shadowhunters”) in the pic.

Penned by Alan Trezza (“We Summon the Darkness”), the story, set in New York, revolves around Rosario (Toubia), a successful Wall Street stockbroker who is trapped in her estranged grandmother Griselda’s apartment during a snowstorm. Griselda has died, and supernatural forces possess her corpse. Rosario, now the target of a deadly family curse, must battle her past to save herself and her soul.

“Rosario” marks the feature debut of Colombian filmmaker Felipe Vargas, a DGA award-winner for his viral horror short “Milk Teeth,” which has led to projects with Paramount, Sony and Lionsgate. He was named one of 10 Latino Content Creators to Watch by Variety last year.

Ms. Marvel couldn’t be more different than Meera Menon’s last Marvel experience on The Punisher, but the story of Kamala Khan certainly strikes a deeper chord in the filmmaker. Similar to Kamala, Menon was raised by South Asian immigrants in New Jersey, so she relished the opportunity to help tell a story that she longed for during her own childhood. The Indian American filmmaker, who directs Ms. Marvel’s second and third episodes, made it clear to Marvel Studios from the get-go that this project was especially personal to her.

Hundreds of pro filmmakers will join forces in New York City this summer to create six short films, as part of the fifth Women’s Weekend Film Challenge.

A grassroots initiative founded in 2017 by filmmakers Katrina Medoff and Tracy Sayre, Wwfc aims to address the lack of women and nonbinary people behind the camera and on screen through a variety of programs, including its signature film challenge, which places creatives on teams to write, shoot and edit a short in just one weekend. This year’s challenge set for August will be the first to take place in-person since the outbreak of the Covid pandemic.

Film creatives of all kinds can apply for the challenge for free at this link, between June 1 and June 27. Participation is also free of charge. “Welcome to Blumhouse” is an anthology of eight horror thrillers executive produced by Jason Blum; each tells a different story, with different casts and crews.
