While actors, writers, and directors often want to continue indefinitely when they’ve got a hit TV show on their hands, it’s always disappointing for audiences when a show continues past its prime. It can be tempting to continually renew a show when there’s a willing audience eagerly excited about a new season, but this often leads to series that continue well past their prime and are artificially extended with convoluted plotlines and a rotating cast of main characters. There were even some shows that peaked early and should have ended with season one, yet continued needlessly for years on end.
Some hit TV shows had the potential to be among the best shows ever made, yet too many seasons meant they lost their appeal, and viewers slowly lost interest and stopped watching. Other examples had an excellent premise in their earliest seasons, but they decided to introduce...

Ten years ago, one of HBO’s many hit shows that became a pop culture phenomenon had ended its run. True Blood was created by American Beauty writer Alan Ball and was based on the Southern Vampire Mysteries novels written by Charlaine Harris. The show dealt with vampires becoming ingrained in society with a new evolving fight for equal rights. The series starred Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Sam Trammell, Ryan Kwanten, Rutina Wesley, Chris Bauer, Nelsan Ellis, Jim Parrack, Carrie Preston, Alexander Skarsgård, Todd Lowe, Deborah Ann Woll, Kristin Bauer van Straten, Lauren Bowles, and Joe Manganiello.
Deadline reports on the exciting development of Alexander Skarsgård reprising his role (unofficially) for an appearance in this final season of the FX comedy series What We Do in the Shadows. True Blood quickly became one of the biggest TV shows of the noughties when it premiered in 2008.
The horror-themed TV series, which was based on the Southern Vampire Mysteries series by Charlaine Harris, debuted on HBO in September of that year and ran through August 2014 across seven seasons and 80 episodes.
The series centers around Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic waitress living in Louisiana, and the emergence of vampires thanks to a synthetic blood product called “Tru Blood,” which allows them to come out of their coffins and integrate into society. The series follows the vampires’ fight for equality amid anti-vampire sentiments, as Sookie falls in love with vampire Bill Compton.
The show won both a Golden Globe and an Emmy, and its stars have since gone on to accomplish major things in their careers, earning a significant amount of money and acclaim.

The Aurora Teagarden Mysteries from Hallmark encompass 19 movies all covering the adventures of the titular librarian/private eye and to watch the series in order means starting in 2015. Author Charlaine Harris, best known for her Sookie Stackhouse series which was eventually turned into True Blood by HBO, wrote another long and popular franchise, the Aurora Teagarden series. The books began with Real Murders in 1990 which was followed by 10 more novels, the last coming in 2017, Sleep Like a Baby. Hallmark adapted the second book in the series in April 2015, A Bone to Pick.
Since then, 18 more movies have come out, with all but one starring Candace Cameron Bure as Aurora Teagarden. Aurora "Roe" is a librarian in the sleepy town of Lawrenceton, Washington, where she runs the Real Murders Club, a group of true crime lovers who meet every month to study up on the famous crimes from the history of their town.

The best Arielle Kebbel movie and TV roles show her range, as she has taken on everything from romantic comedies and horror movies to supernatural television and police procedurals and excelled at them all. Kebbel was a star from the start, moving to Los Angeles and landing the first role she auditioned for, latching on to the series Gilmore Girls as Lindsay Lister. This got her foot in the door, and she never looked back. She has also always kept her foot in the door of the television industry while also taking some movie roles.
Throughout her career, Kebbel has appeared in some of the biggest TV shows airing, with major roles on Gilmore Girls and The Vampire Diaries, as well as one-shot appearances in franchise shows like CSI and Hawai'i Five-o. She tried her hand at horror movies like The Grudge 2 and The Uninvited and rom-coms like John Tucker Must Die.

It’s rare for a series to start brilliantly, continue on that trajectory, and then stick the landing.
It’s why you typically hear those same TV series when people talk about the greatest of all time.
Breaking Bad, The Wire, The Sopranos, Seinfeld, and Mad Men — these series stayed consistent and kept audiences engrossed from start to finish.
(Will Hart/NBC)
Unfortunately, that’s not always the case across the board.
More than likely, a series never finds its footing or lives up to its potential. Or it’s inconsistent at best, with a sluggish start and better finish.
And sometimes a show starts wonderfully, with acclaim and devotion from fans, only to stumble somewhere along the way and never truly recover.

Set in the 1990s, The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires brings a twist to the Southern horror sub-genre that's reminiscent of True Blood. HBO is in the process of developing a TV series based on Grady Hendrix's The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires novel. While Hendrix's book is a fresh take on vampire lore, HBO's track record suggests that the adaptation will be a fitting successor to the iconic True Blood.

10 years ago, the acclaimed horror-romance series True Blood, which was based on the Southern Vampire Mysteries book series by Charlaine Harris, reached its final season. A show that had its fair share of ups and downs story-wise, it also felt like an end of an era as it’s the last horny-on-main series in recent memory that’d feel like an anomaly in our current largely sexless cinematic climate. But above all, when the series ended, viewers had to bid farewell to its iconic power pairing: Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgård) and his progeny, Pamela Swynford de Beaufort (Kristin Bauer van Straten).

Joe Manganiello feels his True Blood character's death was premature, with more story left to explore. Despite the potential for a reboot, True Blood's disappointments linger, including character deaths and bland endings. The scrapped True Blood reboot doesn't rule out a future return, leaving hope for a more fitting end for Alcide Herveaux.

Created by Alan Ball and inspired by The Southern Vampire Mysteries, a series of novels by Charlaine Harris, the TV series True Blood ran on HBO for seven seasons, from 2008 to 2014, ending up with a total of 80 episodes. 42 of those episodes featured Joe Manganiello as the werewolf character Alcide Herveaux. Introduced in season 3, Alcide was only supposed to be a guest star for that particular season – but he proved to be so popular with viewers, he was kept around… until season 7, when he was killed off. Not surprisingly, Manganiello wasn’t happy with the way his character went out. In fact, he was so displeased with Alcide being killed off, he feels he still has unfinished werewolf business to this day.
During an interview on Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM show, Manganiello said (with thanks to The Hollywood Reporter for the transcription), “I thought there was so much left on the table for me.

Regardless of genre, fans place an enormous amount of expectation on series finales. It's not easy to carry the responsibility of wrapping up any extraneous plot threads and character arcs in a satisfying way for longtime audiences. Even the most acclaimed shows, like "Seinfeld" and "The Sopranos," can have their entire successful run overshadowed by middling or divisive reception to their respective finales. This distinction carries over to horror TV shows, with plenty of notable series marring their celebrated legacies because of the last impressions left by divisive final episodes.
Horror shows often suffer from abrupt cancellations, denying audiences a satisfying amount of closure thanks to anticlimactic endings that don't live up to fan expectations. Even some of the most enduring and iconic horror shows have come to a close with lackluster finales. Here are the most maligned endings that ruined the legacies of TV horror classics by failing to stick the landing.

True Blood had many captivating characters, but some, like Adele Stackhouse and Eggs Benedict Talley, had untapped potential and were underutilized. Characters like Terry Bellefleur and Ginger could have been given more screen time and character development for a deeper narrative. The show missed opportunities with characters like Sophie-Anne Leclerq, Godric, Russell Edgington, Jesus Velasquez, and Tara Thornton, leaving their potential unfulfilled and their storylines unresolved.
HBO's True Blood is known for some captivating characters, but some of those characters could have been explored much further. While the series provided interesting and entertaining elements and complex relationships, there were many moments that left audiences wanting more. Entangled in his first ever controversy, Seth McGuire (Adams) finds himself ill-equipped to navigate D.C.’s treachery. His only hope comes from a big idea to give every American citizen one million dollars.
Inspired by the optimistic storytelling in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and The West Wing, co-creators J S Mayank and David Carlyle wanted to put out a message of hope. “Politics is supposed to be aspirational, and yet it’s become anything but. Our cast and crew wanted to bring back high-minded, civil discourse—all while making politics entertaining again,” said Mayank.
In addition to Adams, the podcast features an extensive cast of Hollywood stars, including Emmy Award-winning and Oscar nominated actor Laurence Fishburne, Shanola Hampton...

The recent announcement of a True Blood reboot brought fans out of hiding after the vampire series' notoriously bad ending; however, the more recent announcement of the reboot's cancelation makes the True Blood finale much worse. True Blood is a steamy seven-season HBO series that started in 2008 and ended in 2014. The show is based on a set of novels by Charlaine Harris called "The Southern Vampire Mysteries" and follows a woman named Sookie Stackhouse, a waitress and a telepathic halfling.
Viewers were exceedingly disappointed by True Blood's ending, mainly because the finale was overly bland. After seven seasons of campy gore and graphic sex, the show's ending remained overly tame and had a strange focus on traditional family ideas, which did not sit right with the progressive themes that appeared in True Blood overall. The ending proposed that Sookie offered Bill "True Death" and then got pregnant with another unknown party,...

As you may recall, it was announced back in 2020 that HBO was developing a series reboot of their hit vampire series “True Blood,” with Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa leading the charge. Based on the novels by Charlaine Harris and created by Alan Ball, HBO’s vampire/werewolf/were-panther/you-name-it series aired between 2008 and 2014, officially coming to an end after seven seasons and 80 episodes.
But what’s the latest on HBO’s “True Blood” reboot? Well, according to a new article from Variety this week, those plans from back in 2020 are dead-in-the-water here in 2023.
HBO and HBO Max content CEO Casey Bloys tells Variety that while a few scripts had been written for a potential “True Blood” reboot, nothing ended up coming together. It seems the project was only ever in the early stages, and HBO wasn’t confident enough to proceed. That doesn’t mean “True Blood” will Never be back, but...

Though HBO raised a few eyebrows when it announced that True Blood —the messy but fun vampire series based on the novels by Charlaine Harris — would be rebooted, such a project has more potential than might be immediately apparent. True Blood was a tremendous success for HBO during its run, even though it largely eschewed the mystery-solving component of the book series after its first season. Like so many other vampire series of the time and since, it worked very hard to make vampires sexy, and it often focused more on the relationship dramas of its central characters rather than murder mysteries.
True Blood and its enormous cast was, of course, a part of a larger cultural fascination with vampires that flourished during the 2000s and into the 2010s. Though vampires aren’t quite as ubiquitous as when True Blood was first on the air, they have never really gone away,...

Fantastical elements have been part of television since 1964's "Bewitched" and 1965's "I Dream of Jeannie. In the following decades, the genre's popularity has only grown, moving beyond family-friendly sitcoms. The '90s brought us "Hercules" and "Xena: Warrior Princess." The 2000s ushered in the massive cultural phenomenon of "Lost." The world of fantasy television is wonderfully expansive, featuring some of the most critically-acclaimed television -- from philosophical comedies like "The Good Place" to time travel romantic dramas like "Outlander," to high fantasy tales of intrigue and betrayal like "House of the Dragon." For every beloved series, there's a critically-panned fantasy flop. Every "Game of Thrones" season 1, there's a "Game of Thrones" season 8.

The supernatural HBO series True Blood sees actor Stephen Moyer playing Bill Compton and Alexander Skarsgård as Eric Northman — but Moyer might not have gotten the role, which would've made Eric's character very different. True Blood is based on the book series The Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris. The novels, and the show, follow Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), who starts as a waitress in Bon Temps, Louisiana. In Harris' universe, vampires are out in the open thanks to a synthetic blood product called true blood. The series doesn't feature just vampires. However, there are also shapeshifters, fairies, werewolves, werepanthers, and much more.
True Blood showrunner Alan Ball, on board as executive producer for the True Blood reboot, had quite the burden on his hands casting such an anticipated series. Of course, when casting any adaptation, there are bound to be some book fans that aren't happy with the final result,...

True Blood star Deborah Ann Woll revealed the show didn't end the way she wanted. Adapted by American Beauty writer Alan Ball, the show was based on the bestselling Southern Vampire Mysteries book series by Charlaine Harris. Premiering in 2008, the series enjoyed a seven-season run on HBO with Woll featuring as the reoccurring character Jessica Hamby, a young vampire turned by Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) in season 1.
Discussing her True Blood tenure on the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast, Woll admitted that the final season didn't end as she'd hoped.
