The original Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey was easily one of the worst films of last year, but based on its outrageous premise and low budget, it managed to turn a profit. That of course means a sequel, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2, with all the usual claims of a bigger budget, more kills and better effects. Conspicuously absent were promises of a decent script or acting, however.

Taking place a year after the original, Blood and Honey 2 opens with the introduction of Owl, who looks more like a vulture than anything. He joins Pooh and Piglet in their fun and games, starting with the torture and killing of three scantily clad campers.

We already knew that there’s going to be another installment in the Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey horror franchise, because it was announced earlier this month that Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey and Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 (which is now on the last day of its three-day theatrical run) a part of a cinematic universe with other horror movies inspired by children’s stories, like Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare, Bambi: The Reckoning, and Pinocchio Unstrung, and it’s building up to the crossover movie Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble, which will be released in 2025. But now Variety has been able to confirm that, in addition to Poohniverse, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 3 is also moving ahead. The Hollywood Reporter shares the latest sneak peek at Blood and Honey 2 this morning, giving us our first look at the brand new Winnie the Pooh character design.

Returning director Rhys Frake-Waterfield tells the outlet, “This time we have people doing the prosthetics — it’s a company that has worked on Harry Potter’s Voldemort and Star Wars. And they’ve been in charge of the redesigns of the creature. And that’s why Pooh looks a bit more scary. There’s an extra level of detail there.”

He notes that the cost of bringing Pooh to life for the first Blood and Honey was a mere $770, while the sequel’s bigger budget allowed for a $20,000 spend on the character design.

A sequel to this year’s Winnie the Pooh slasher movie, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 is on the way and in production now, and IGN shares new imagery today.

Date Change

Sony has moved the previously untitled James Gunn horror project “BrightBurn” back from Nov. 30 of this year to May 24, 2019 — the start of the Memorial Day weekend.

The studio unveiled the name “BrightBurn” on Monday along with the date change. Gunn produced the project with The H Collective. “BrightBurn” stars Elizabeth Banks, Jackson Dunn, David Denman, Meredith Hagner, and Matt Jones. Gunn’s brother Brian Gunn and cousin Mark Gunn wrote the script, with David Yarovesky directing.

Gunn had been set to appear on a panel to discuss the project at San Diego Comic-Con in July, but his appearance was canceled after news broke that Disney had fired Gunn as director of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” due to offensive tweets.

Castings

Virginia Madsen and “The Florida Project” star Valeria Cotto will star in the independent supernatural movie “Sarah” with shooting starting in Los Angeles in May.

Tallulah Evans will play the titular role as Sarah. Rachel Crow (“Bumble Bee”), Spencer List, Malaak Hattab, and Daniel Pinder have also been cast. The project centers on a teen harboring a dark secret as she visits her relatives for the summer. Madsen will be playing an occultist in the film.

The screenplay was written by Alexander Garcia, who will also be directing and producing under his Multi-Valence productions banner alongside producing partner Anne Stimac with Stuart Arbury. Shaeda Moghaddam is executive producing.

The Watcher in the Woods was originally a novel written by Florence Randall in 1976 that was later adapted into a movie that was produced by Disney Studios. While the 1980 movie is a cult classic it is remembered by most as being an epic studio disaster with multiple delays, reshoots, and being pulled from theaters after the ending had a negative response from moviegoers. Although the original movie is considered a disaster by economic and studio standards it has maintained a cult audience and the story continues to be a family favorite around Halloween.
