‘Gangs of London’ Producer Teases Show’s Future, ‘New Characters and New Surprises’ After Shocking Season 3 Deaths: ‘Expect the Unexpected’
Image
Spoiler Alert: Details follow from Season 3 of “Gangs of London.”

After saying goodbye to some of its most-known characters in Season 3, the “Gangs of London” team is ready for more.

“The challenge is the same challenge we have every season: to keep delivering more surprises for the audience, and we still have an embarrassment of riches in the cast, obviously, with those that survived,” laughs producer Hugh Warren.

“We have some great things in mind, because we don’t want to disappoint people. I think it’s really important for the audience to understand that, by killing these lead characters, there’s no predicting what happens next.”

That included Sean Wallace, played by Joe Cole, and Ed Dumani (Lucian Msamati).

“It’s always a shock. It was a shock when Sean died, it was a shock when Ed died – people really didn’t expect that. But I think they’ve...

Body Swaps and Bloodshed Arrive on Arrow This June
Image
Arrow has revealed its June slate, and it’s a characteristically eclectic mix of the brutal, the bizarre and the barely-seen. From grisly Korean thrillers and resurrected Japanese ghost tales to European horrors and cult cinema favourites, the curated streaming platform continues to expand its niche appeal with a line-up tailored to lovers of the extreme and unconventional.

Kicking off the month is Devils, a slick South Korean thriller featuring a body swap between a detective and the serial killer he has spent years chasing. It arrives alongside Body Parts, a five-part anthology soaked in ritualistic horror and dread, both streaming from 6 June. Together, they lead Arrow’s newly launched Killer K-Horror season, a collection that also includes the underseen zombie satire Zombie for Sale.

From 9 June, viewers can return to Takashi Miike’s gonzo Western Sukiyaki Western Django, the 2007 cult mash-up that blends Leone-styled shootouts with operatic samurai drama.

One of the Scariest Irish Movies Is Streaming Now For Free
Image
I’ve got a bit of a soft spot for Irish horror. The legends and myths just land with me for some reason (spoiler: I’m Irish), and there’s still infinite untapped potential within the horror genre to dredge up some of the scariest bits of Celtic folklore. Last year’s The Watchers gave it an earnest yet uneven attempt, and Evil Dead Rise’s Lee Cronin debuted with the A24 flick The Hole in the Ground, a terrifying tale of a changeling run amok.

Changelings tend to be the most popular, really. The sensational indie You Are Not My Mother tread similar ground with body-swaps, and The Cellar dabbles in some pretty frightening Lovecraftian mythos. Among the best, however, and a personal favorite of mine, has to be Corin Hardy’s The Hallow. It’s a stripped-down home invasion shocker that supplants conventional antagonists with a forest full of hostile fairies.

Gangs Of London: Season 3
Image
Streaming on: Sky / Now

Episodes viewed: 8 of 8

Gangs Of London has always been best appreciated as an alternate-reality affair — a bit like John Wick, except people drive on the left and there’s no hotel for hitmen (though there may be an assassins-only greasy spoon we’ve not seen yet). In this London the roads are free of traffic, nobody uses public transport, and a bullet-spewing gang war can rage without being interrupted by the police, whose response times are apparently glacial. It’s a fantasy-crime slayground where anything can happen, as long as that “anything” is deadly serious and intensely, gratuitously violent. In short, if you’re willing to suspend disbelief, and aren’t squeamish, it’s a pugilistic hoot.

Despite another change of showrunners (South Korean director Kim Hong-Sun and lead writer/exec producer Peter McKenna taking over from Season 2’s Corin Hardy and Season 1’s Gareth Evans...

A Cancelled Sequel To The Crow Could Have Starred Dmx And Eminem
Image
/Film has been dutifully reporting on all the failed "Crow" remakes as news of their formation as dissipation came across our desks. Back in 2008, Stephen Norrington was attached. Then, in 2014, it was Corin Hardy. Andrea Riseborough was supposed to be a part of that one. In 2016, it was said that Jason Momoa was going to star in a new "Crow" remake. Then that project fell apart. Rupert Sander's remake of "The Crow" was released in late August of 2024, and it came and went without much positive fanfare. It bombed at the box office, making only $26 million on a $50 million budget, and it was panned by critics, including by /Film. This was an inauspicious reaction to a film that had been trapped in development hell for literally decades.

Speaking of development, Rob Zombie famously wrote a script for a sequel called "The Crow 2037," which would have taken the series in a sci-fi direction,...

“I’m Really Excited To See It Come to Life”: Corin Hardy’s Upcoming Horror Title, ‘Whistle,’ Receives a Promising Update From Star
Image
Inanimate objects with supernatural powers have had a solid run in the horror genre as of late, with recent titles like Talk to Me and Tarot chilling us with nothing more than an embalmed hand and a pack of cards, respectively. Audiences are in for another dance with a possessed piece of material, when Corin Hardy’s Whistle sounds off in cinemas. Penned by Owen Egerton (Blood Fest), the movie centers around a group of teenagers who stumble upon an Aztec death whistle that they can’t help but try out. Upon blowing on the ancient relic, their nightmares come to life when their deaths travel from the future to take care of business in the present.

Gangs Of London Season 3 Trailer Brings Back TV’s Bloodiest Crime Drama
Image
“Bloodshed is not the answer,” intones somebody in the Gangs Of London Season 3 trailer. Clearly, that person hasn’t been watching the first two seasons of Gangs Of London – the no-holds-barred crime drama that, from the beginning, has been splattered head-to-toe in the blood of its enemies. And it looks like this long-awaited third run will follow suit – bringing more red-spraying exploits from Joe Cole’s Sean Wallace and Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù’s Elliot Carter, and heading to Sky / Now in March. Check out the trailer:

Where Season 1 was overseen by Gareth ‘The Raid’ Evans, and Season 2 was run by Corin Hardy, Season 3 is led by director Kim Hong Sun and lead writer Peter McKenna – and follows the aftermath of a batch of bad cocaine that wipes out hundreds of victims across the capital.

Here’s the official synopsis: “Anyone can fall as chaos erupts in London after a spiked shipment of cocaine kills hundreds,...

If You Love 'Pans Labyrinth,' You Must See This Creepy Folk Horror on Shudder

There's nothing better than some scary magic. Even nearly two decades later, director Guillermo Del Toro's masterful blend of historical fiction and dark fantasy in Pan's Labyrinth stands the test of time as one of the most creative depictions of childhood innocence lost during war, and for those looking to enjoy similarly disenchanting movies, Shudder has you covered. The Hallow, the 2015 horror film directed by Hollywood staple Corin Hardy, is a riveting watch that combines the intimate focus of Del Toro's masterpiece with the fresh horrors of Irish folklore.

The Crow reboot gets a PVOD release this Friday
Image
On August 23rd, Lionsgate released a new version of The Crow onto the big screen (you can read our 6/10 review of the film at This Link and see how we thinks it compares to other Crow movies Here) – and since it turned out to be both a critical failure and a box office bomb, we knew it wasn’t going to end up having much of a theatrical run. Now Lionsgate has announced that The Crow is already set to receive a PVOD (Premium Video on Demand) and Premium Electronic Sell-Through release this Friday, September 13th. A press release notes that the movie will be available “to buy for $24.99 and to rent for $19.99 (for a 48-hour period) on participating digital platforms from which movies are purchased, including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Google Play, Fandango at Home, and more.”

Why Did The Crow Flop? New Report Examines Bad Buzz And Possible Issues Behind The Scenes
Image
A remake of The Crow has been talked about for at least a decade and a half, and it finally flew into theaters this weekend. However, it earned only $4.6 million in North America, debuting at #8...on a budget of at least $50 million.

Deadline has taken a closer look at where it all went wrong for the film, revealing that moviegoers who went to Thursday previews may have contributed to that dismal opening weekend thanks to negative word of mouth. That's evident from the remake's 1* rating on Comscore/Screen Engine's PostTrak (and a B- CinemaScore).

Lionsgate limited the damage by acquiring the North American theatrical rights to The Crow for only $10 million with an additional $15 million on marketing. The studio will lose money but not as much as on Borderlands (that loss should reach around $30 million when all is said and done).

As the trade puts it, "The Crow franchise's...

The Crow director Alex Proyas relentlessly slams the reboot’s failure
Image
Alex Proyas, of the 1994 classic The Crow (watch it Here), was never happy with the idea that Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders was going to be telling a new version of the story of The Crow with his recently released reboot – and Proyas never kept his feelings about the project to himself, taking every opportunity to mock and bash it on social media. The Crow reboot made its way out into the world last weekend and is proving to be both a critical failure and a box office bomb, which is just giving Proyas more opportunities to have fun at the movie’s expense on social media.

In the build-up to the reboot’s release, Proyas shared a screen shot of The Guardian’s review, which called the film “unfathomably awful.” Later, he commented, “Wow. The reviews are brutal.” And when the box office numbers came in,...

How ‘The Crow’s Wings Got Clipped At The Box Office: Reboot Of Brandon Lee Cult Pic Bombs With $4.6M
Image
After 16 years of fits and starts, a $50M reboot of 1994 goth thriller The Crow finally flew into theaters and dropped out of the sky with a disastrous $4.6M opening.

Forget about critics plucking the feathers from The Crow at 19%, those moviegoers who attended Thursday night, predominantly fans, slammed the movie on Comscore/Screen Engine’s PostTrak with one star, a 47% grade and a 36% definite recommend.

Lionsgate limited its skin in the game with a $10M North American acquisition and $15M P&a on this Rupert Sanders-directed take, starring burgeoning It and John Wick: Chapter 4 genre star Bill Skarsgård. At the end of the day, the studio stands to lose more — in the neighborhood of $30M — on its $110M-plus feature take of gonzo sci-fi video game Borderlands.

So why make a big deal here on The Crow? Even if, let’s say, Lionsgate possibly breaks even in pic’s...

5 Reasons Why Bill Skarsgard's The Crow Remake Bombed At The Box Office
Image
While the summer movie season has been generally strong for the last couple of months, this past weekend was a bumpy ride so far as new releases were concerned. MGM's "Blink Twice," the feature directorial debut of Zoe Kravitz, did well enough for itself with a $7.3 million domestic start. Unfortunately for Lionsgate, the long-gestating "The Crow" remake didn't fare nearly as well, to put it mildly. The new adaptation of James O'Barr's graphic novel of the same name had nothing shy of a disastrous start to its box office run.

Director Rupert Sanders' "The Crow" took in an estimated $4.6 million on its opening weekend, placing at number eight on the domestic charts. That was just barely above "Despicable Me 4" ($4.4 million), a movie that has been in theaters for going on two months. It also failed to gross more than the "Coraline" 15th anniversary re-release ($5 million), which is on its second weekend.

Lionsgate has released a new version of The Crow onto the big screen (you can read our 6/10 review of the film at This Link and see how we thinks it compares to other Crow movies Here) – and its opening weekend box office was so underwhelming, it’s probably not going to stick around in theatres for very long. The Crow – What Did You Think?
Image
We’ve been talking about it for a long time, but now it’s finally out there in the world. Lionsgate has released a new version of The Crow onto the big screen. You know what we thought about it; you can read our 6/10 review of the film at This Link, or you can watch the video embedded above. Now we want to know, what did you think about the new version of The Crow? You can let us know by leaving a comment below.

We had previously been referring to this project as a remake, but Lionsgate recently let it be known that this is not to be called a remake, but rather a new adaptation of the source material, the comic book series created by James O’Barr. Working on The Crow reboot helped FKA Twigs embrace her inner darkness again
Image
Lionsgate will be bringing a new version of The Crow to theatres tomorrow, August 23rd – and while we had previously been referring to this project as a remake, Lionsgate recently let it be known that this is not to be called a remake, but rather a new adaptation of the source material, the comic book series created by James O’Barr. That means it still focuses on a doomed relationship between characters named Eric and Shelly, played here by Bill Skarsgard (Boy Kills World) and singer FKA Twigs – and during an interview with Seasoned Bf, Twigs revealed that working on the film was therapeutic for her, allowing her to embrace her inner darkness again.

"I think people can think darkness is a bad thing but I don't see it like that. It's like a well, it's like a beautiful deep pool, it's a depth of character" – FKA Twigs shares how her...

2024's The Crow Could Be Great, But I Wish This Earlier Reboot Attempt Happened
Image
The long-awaited reboot of 'The Crow' franchise, starring Bill Skarsgrd, is finally set to debut in 2024 after years of development. Jason Momoa was originally cast as Eric Draven in a scrapped reboot, with test footage showing his potential before creative differences halted the project. 'The Crow (2024)' promises a dark and gritty reimagining of the original graphic novel, introducing new elements to captivate the modern audience as Eric seeks justice for his and his soulmate's murders.

I'm cautiously optimistic about 2024's The Crow movie, but I would have been much more excited if this earlier reboot attempt had happened. Although a revival of The Crow franchise is just now coming out, a proper reboot has been in the works for years, with all kinds of talented individuals being attached at various points. However, one canceled version of The Crow had me more excited than any, and I'm...

The 2024 Crow Remake May Not Top The Original's Box Office Opening From 30 Years Ago
Image
After years (and years) of waiting, "The Crow" remake is finally heading our way next weekend. Hailing from Lionsgate and director Rupert Sanders ("Snow White and the Huntsman"), this one will help close out the summer movie season with an R-rated bang. The question is, will this be a loud bang or a rather muted bang? Unfortunately for all involved, it's almost certainly going to be closer to the latter. This crow is not going to fly very high, it seems.

The long-awaited reimagining of James O'Barr's graphic novel is looking at an opening weekend in the $7.5 to $11 million range, per Box Office Theory. That's not great for a movie with a production budget in the $50 million range. Granted, that's cheap for an R-rated comic book movie. Nevertheless, it's going to have a long way to go to get anywhere near profitability, even on the high end of those estimates.

‘Crawl 2’ Heats Up at Paramount as Horror Thriller Eyes Fall Shoot (Exclusive)
Kaya Scodelario in Crawl (2019)
Paramount Pictures is crawling back for more.

The studio is deep in development on a sequel to Crawl, its gator-gnashing horror movie released in 2019, and is eyeing a fall shoot in Europe.

Andrew Deutschman and Jason Pagan, known for penning horror flick Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension and time-travel romp Project Almanac, are writing the script.

French-born horror fiend Alexandre Aja, who directed the initial movie, will be back in the director’s chair. Aja is also producing as well as Craig Flores and horror master Sam Raimi, all of whom produced the original.

Crawl, written by Michael and Shawn Rasmussen, starred Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper as a daughter and father duo who find themselves trapped in a Florida home and hunted by a gator (or three) during a Category 5 hurricane. The movie proved profitable for Paramount, generating $91.5 million on a budget of under $14 million.

Crawl 2 will feature a...

The Crow reboot director says his film is a scrappy indie, not a Hollywood remake
Image
Lionsgate will be bringing a new version of The Crow to theatres on August 23rd – and while we had previously been referring to this project as a remake, Lionsgate recently let it be known that this is not to be called a remake, but rather a new adaptation of the source material, the comic book series created by James O’Barr. During an interview with Empire, director Rupert Sanders also made sure to let readers know that this isn’t a soulless Hollywood remake – rather, he describes it as a scrappy indie.

Sanders said, “There’s nothing to do with Hollywood in this movie at all, it’s a very scrappy indie movie.” Because of its scrappy indie status (even though it had a $50 million budget), Sanders was “able to remain close to the centre and the darkness and the violence that’s in the graphic novel. The only reason we...

Everything We Know About The Crow 2024 (Don’t call it a remake; Eric isn’t Draven)
Image
It’s been a long time coming, but a reboot of the 1994 cult classic film The Crow (which was based on the comic book series created by James O’Barr) will finally be making its way out into the world on August 23rd, which is when Lionsgate will be giving the film a theatrical release. With that release date swiftly approaching, we figured we should gather together all the information we have on this movie… and here it is, Everything We Know About The Crow 2024:

Not A Remake

Lionsgate has informed us that this new version of The Crow, which we have previously been referring to as a remake, is not to be called a remake. Rather, the film is to be referred to as “a new adaptation of the comic book.” They have also revealed that the tragic characters at the heart of the story are not named Eric Draven and Shelly Webster,...

Whatever you want to call this franchise reboot, one thing we know for sure about this take on The Crow is that the Motion Picture Association ratings board has given it an R rating for strong bloody violence, gore, language, sexuality/nudity, and drug use.

“I can’t play anything but what this film deserves”: Jason Momoa’s Heartbreaking Reason Behind Exiting The Crow Reboot That Led to Bill Skarsgard Taking Up the Role
Image
One could say that the reboot of The Crow (1994) was simply cursed. Going through ups and downs ever since its announcement, no one knew if the film would even come to fruition. However, after years and years of setbacks, the reboot will finally be released this year, albeit without Jason Momoa. Actor Jason Momoa was all set to play the lead in the reboot, which he stated was his dream role.

Bill Skarsgård in The Crow reboot

Unfortunately, due to some differences, Jason Momoa had to walk away from the character he had dreamed of playing for eight years. Not only did the actor say goodbye to the reboot, but director Corin Hardy, too, packed his bags and left. Taking to social media, both Jason Momoa and Corin Hardy put out their sides of the story.

Jason Momoa as Eric Draven Looks Truly Terrifying, Fans Claim It’s Way Better Than Bill Skarsgård’s Joker-Like Look For The Crow Remake
Image
The protagonist of the comic book-based The Crow saga, Eric Draven is one of the most iconic fictional antiheroes of all time. Created by James O’Barr back in 1989, he was initially played by the late Brandon Lee in the 1994 film of the same name, which became a massive cult classic.

Over the years, it spawned three more installments in the film series till 2005. But then the franchise was once again announced to be resurrected in 2008, and Jason Momoa became the final contender to play the lead in the remake by 2016.

Eric Draven in the comics

However, Momoa’s tenure as the antihero was cut short due to an unexpected exit from the movie, and the role of Draven was passed on to Bill Skarsgård, who recently got the trailer released for his film and will soon be seen in the upcoming reboot.

But there’s a twist here: The test...

‘The Crow’: Everything We Know About the Reimagining So Far
Image
After more than 15 years of development hell, the reimagining of “The Crow” will finally hit theaters this summer.

“The Crow” is based on the indie comic book series of the same name by James O’Barr that was originally published back in 1989 by Caliber Press. 30 years ago in 1994, a film adaptation of the comic book by visionary director Alex Proyas was released into theaters, perhaps better known as the movie where star Brandon Lee was accidentally shot and killed on set during the middle of production.

Miramax stepped in and spent $8 million to pick up where production left off and finish the film. “The Crow” went on to gross $93.7 million at the box office against its $23 million budget, and the film eventually became a cult classic. Three lackluster sequels and a television adaptation would follow, however the property had always been earmarked for what current distributor Lionsgate is calling a reimagining.

Immaculate Review: Sydney Sweeney Inspires Awe in Fitfully Bonkers Nunsploitation
Michael Mohan
In director Michael Mohan’s Immaculate, evil lies not in the efforts of Satan and his demons but solely within the hearts of the men running a convent in the Italian countryside and, to a lesser degree, the women who answer directly to them. In the opening scene, we witness a terrified young nun (Simona Tabasco) desperately trying to escape the convent, only to be hunted down and restrained by a creepy quartet of red-masked nuns. From this point on, it’s abundantly clear that something is off at Our Lady of Sorrows, even if it takes a young American nun, Cecilia (Sydney Sweeney), who’s freshly arrived at the convent, quite a while to figure out that serious trouble is brewing in this little corner of paradise.

While Cecilia arrives in Italy as a doe-eyed innocent, even she’s all too aware of the Catholic Church’s recent scandals,...

The Crow Reboot: Mark Wahlberg Couldn’t Bag the Role for the Most Bizarre Reason – 4 Other Actors Who Also Failed Before Bill Skarsgård
Image
Lionsgate has officially released the trailer of the long-awaited adaptation of the 1994 supernatural action film The Crow. The trailer showcases Bill Skarsgård as Eric Draven in a new look than what the late actor Brandon Lee established in the original film. With the original movie achieving hit status upon its release and gaining a dedicated fan base, it has since evolved into a franchise with multiple sequels and a television series.

Bill Skarsgård in The Crow

And the upcoming reboot has also been in development for a long time, and over the years several actors and directors have been attached to the project. One of them also included the Oscar-nominated actor Mark Wahlberg, who was offered the lead role but was deemed unsuitable as he did not fit the description of the lead character.

Every Actor Who Almost Played The Crow Before Bill Skarsgard Got Stuck With It
Image
The comic book "The Crow," created by James O'Barr in 1989, should be considered a seminal work in the then-growing Goth movement. The comics were about a man named Eric who was engaged to a woman named Shelly. One evening, Eric and Shelly are savagely beaten and assaulted. Eric is shot in the head but remains alive long enough to witness Shelly's horrible murder.

His story doesn't end there. The titular Crow appears over Eric's body and magically resurrects him, sending him on a quest for blood revenge. The unspeaking crow seems to want Eric to kill the punks that murdered Shelly, but also seemingly chastises him for brooding and remaining hung up on Shelly's death. Be angry, brood, but do not brood, and do not be angry. It's super-Goth. The comic was popular enough to warrant a celebrated film adaptation in 1994 starring Brandon Lee and directed by Alex Proyas. The film was ultra-stylized,...

Bill Skarsgard Seeks Revenge in First ‘The Crow’ Trailer
Image
After years of stops and starts, The Crow reboot is finally flying and now has the first trailer to prove it.

Bill Skarsgard leads the film, which centers on a man who is murdered, alongside his fiancée but is granted supernatural powers to seek revenge.

The Crow began life as a comic book, with James O’Barr debuting the character in 1989. It grew to new levels of popularity with the cult hit film, which starred the late Brandon Lee, who was tragically killed in an on-set accident during filming. Multiple sequels followed, including The Crow: City of Angels (1996), The Crow: Salvation (2000) and The Crow: Wicked Prayer (2005).

But the current reboot took nearly 20 years to get off the ground, with multiple stars and filmmakers coming and going. Blade Stephen Norrington took a stab at one point, while F. Javier Gutiérrez (Before the Fall) and star Luke Evans tried to break the curse at another point.

Bill Skarsgard Returns From The Dead In The Crow Trailer
Image
It may be downright difficult to believe, but "The Crow" remake has finally happened. Yes, happened, not happening, as had been promised for so long. Lionsgate has now dropped the first trailer for the long-awaited new adaptation of the comic book by James O'Barr. After all these years, we are, at long last, going to see what Eric Draven looks like in a modern context a full 30 years after the first film arrived in 1994. Check it out for yourself above.

This time around, it's Bill Skarsgård, best known for his role as Pennywise the clown in the "It" movies, taking on the role of Eric Draven. Noticeably, his look is, well, different than what we've seen previously, most notably when the late Brandon Lee originated the role in director Alex Proyas' version of "The Crow." Whether that look is better or worse is a matter left to individual opinion, but...
