Her first TV interview for Austria's public network ORF on 6 September 2006 was sold to over 120 countries because the interest in her story was enormous all over the world.

After being kidnapped on 2 March 1998 at the age of 10, she remained in custody of Wolfgang Priklopil for more than eight years, until she escaped on 23 August 2006. Some hours later, her kidnapper committed suicide by jumping in front of a train in Vienna.
