Younger comic-book fans might be surprised to learn that there was once a time when Marvel Comics was on its last legs and willing to do anything to keep the company afloat. Before underdog blockbusters like the X-Men and Blade films put Marvel heroes back on the map, they were desperately trying to experiment with their comics in order to attract a wider audience.
One such experiment was the Marvel Knights imprint, a collection of stand-alone stories that initially focused on less-marketable heroes and gave artists free-reign to tell unique and more adult-oriented stories unshackled by decades of garbled continuity issues. While these stories didn’t always succeed in revitalizing characters for a new generation (and often contained the worst kind of late-90s/early 2000s edge), they were almost always incredibly stylish and memorable.
That’s why I think it’s very appropriate that Neveldine & Taylor’s film Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance...

Exclusive: AMC is looking to break new ground with a primetime animated drama series, Pantheon. The basic cable network has open writers rooms for two series projects, Pantheon, from Turn creator/executive producer Craig Silverstein, and drama St. Luke’s, from The Walking Dead co-executive producer Seth Hoffman. Both hail from AMC Studios. St. Luke’s also is from Channing Tatum’s Free Association.
Pantheon is based on a series of short stories by Ken Liu about uploaded intelligence. Because of the project’s unique nature, I hear that, in addition to a writers room, which will produce multiple scripts, AMC has commissioned a five-minute animated presentation.
While there is no hard rule, ABC in the past year or so has set up writers rooms for two projects at the beginning of the year and for two more in mid-year under its scripts-to-series model. Of the two projects to open writers rooms in January,...

McDonalds’ biggest fan, was just arrested Thursday for allegedly breaking into a Maryland McDonald’s on Nov. 5.
A video of Jessica Marie Cross, 27, climbing into the McDonalds went viral, showing her struggling to pull herself in through the 3-foot wide window at about 1 a.m.
Cross leaned in through the window to get a beverage, but when that didn’t work, she decided to try to climb in and push herself through.
“She helped herself to a drink then went into the business and stole cash and other food,” Howard County police spokesman Seth Hoffman told Wbaltv.

Along with a roomful of journalists, Daily Dead participated in The Walking Dead press conference at this summer’s Comic-Con in San Diego, and our third round of highlights feature reflections on the show’s past and teases of its future from Robert Kirkman, Danai Gurira, Lauren Cohan, Steven Yeun, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Michael Cudlitz.
Robert Kirkman on bringing more characters from the comics into the show:
Robert Kirkman: We’ll always be bringing characters from the comics. We’re reaching that point where Ezekiel was in the storyline and so it’s just a natural progression. As we move through the storyline we’ll be bringing some characters up sooner and some characters up later and stuff like that, but there will definitely be other characters that you can see this season and some surprises coming. Rick's group and the Alexandrians are taking the fight to their latest enemy in The Walking Dead season 6, but when will their luck run out?
This review contains spoilers.
6.12 Not Tomorrow Yet
Very few shows on television can match The Walking Dead when it comes to tension. In last week's episode, where basically nothing of serious danger happened, there was a lot of developing tension. There was nothing to get really tense about, but it worked because this is a universe where letting your guard down, starting a new relationship and giving a monologue about how you'll never give up or let go of your humanity or whatever, usually leads immediately to certain death. Like the walkers that dot the landscape, trouble pops up at the worst times for the survivors.
That's why Rick and company, after a town meeting, decide to take the fight to Negan and the Saviors,...

The Walking Dead makes one of its boldest moves ever in the action-packed season 6 midseason premiere, No Way Out...
This review contains spoilers.
6.9 No Way Out
The talk during the mid-season break for holidays and gridiron football was that the second half of The Walking Dead's sixth season was going to be an action movie. Promises were made about stomach-turning violence, action, suspense, a non-stop thrill-ride, blah blah blah. In the few interviews I've read, the common thread has been the show turning things up to 11 and finishing the season off in spectacular fashion. If the first episode back is any indication, they're not telling tall tales.
It seems that every time Greg Nicotero directs an episode, I say essentially the same thing: the episode looks great and he gets really good performances out of the actors. However, No Way Out might be his best episode...

Before the living dead sink their teeth into the screen this Sunday, Entertainment Weekly unveiled seven new photos from The Walking Dead Season 6's second half.
Featuring the faces of friends and foes, including a walker reaching out for a helping hand to chew on, these new Season 6 photos from Gene Page / AMC were revealed today by EW:
Readers of Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead comic book series know that the second half of Season 6 will lead up to a heart-wrenching encounter with one of the series' most fearsome antagonists: Negan. Speaking with EW's Dalton Ross, Andrew Lincoln talked about his initial reaction to the Season 6 finale's script:
“I felt sick to my stomach when I read the script. It was the first day in the whole six years of working on The Walking Dead that I was late for work because I woke up in the middle of...

The Walking Dead season 6 returns to AMC this Sunday the 14th of February. Here's a spoiler-free look at episode 9, No Way Out...
The problem with what I'm about to say regarding The Walking Dead's season 6 midseason premiere, No Way Out, is that I've said it plenty of times before... only to be proven wrong by the end of each 8-episode run. But here goes nothing: The Walking Dead has spun its best episode in years with No Way Out, which was directed by the very capable Greg Nicotero and written by Seth Hoffman, who also penned the pretty action-packed Jss.
First off, some people find fault with Nicotero's directing. His offerings are usually the trippiest of the bunch and are often experimental. Who can forget last year's surreal What's Happened And What's Going On and this year's First Time Again—the one with the black-and-white flashbacks?...

The Walking Dead's best character has been Carol Peletier, and it's been that way for a couple of seasons now. She started out as the happy homemaker—the very role she's playing around Alexandria—taking canned food or raw game and making it palatable for finicky modern taste buds. Carol is consistently showing off the skills she learned in the years before the apocalypse, from making cookies without refined sugar to turning celery soup into something edible via the magic of paprika and water chestnuts. She's worked a little of that kitchen magic on herself, too, transforming from a meek mouse into a wolf in sheep's clothing, as dangerous and deadly as the gang of attackers scaling Alexandria's walls.
After Carol's impromptu cooking lesson, the episode lingers on some domestic drama.

The Walking Dead shows no signs of rot as it signs off its 5th season with a phenomenally well written, well-directed movie-length finale...
This review contains spoilers.
5.16 Conquer
There's something to be said for The Walking Dead's expanded season finale episode from a sheer television standpoint. A 90 minute finale just feels like something special for a show that is already something special as far as television goes. There's room in the episode. While the set pieces aren't as impressive as Carol's assault on Terminus in No Sanctuary, there's more space to actually build up anticipation, and the multiple close calls all worked this week because it felt like, at any point, someone was going to die. On a show like The Walking Dead, Joe Bob Briggs' drive-in rules apply (anybody can die at any moment), but that goes doubly in a season finale.

The Walking Dead, Season 5, Episode 11: “The Distance”
Written by Seth Hoffman
Directed by Larysa Kondracki
Airs Sundays at 9pm Et on AMC
Though “The Distance” might be another episode where some might declare that really nothing happens, this isn’t quite the case, as much occurs within the time span of the episode. Not only does it bring the notice of the village of Alexandria, it also introduces Aaron from the comic books. It’s nice to see the show veering ever closer to the source material once more, along with widening the span of the characters.
There are so many gorgeous moments of the episode that it’s tough to pick out just one. Whether it’s the wide shot of the car mowing down all of the walkers, to the callback to Dale Horvath on the way to Alexandria (the group has maintained their humanity—well done,...

Is Alexandria the Safe Zone it promises to be? Rick's not buying it in the latest, tense episode of The Walking Dead...

5.11 The Distance
Sometimes it seems like The Walking Dead tries too hard to be something it's not. Somewhere within this melancholy show of dirty people scrounging for food in the dying glimmers of human civilization, there's a gore maniac waiting to leap out and pulverize rubber skulls full of butcher shop leavings, and it's when The Walking Dead embraces both sides of its coin when the show really shines.

Director: Larysa Kondracki. Writer: Seth Hoffman. Cast: Andrew Lincoln, Ross Marquand, Danai Gurira and Norman Reedus. "The Walking Dead" continues with Seas. 5, Epis. 11, titled "The Distance." That distance was shrunk between the survivors and Alexandria. Here, the new character, Aaron (Ross Marquand), promised safety and refuge, but what does he get in return? The group split on this episode, between trusting and mistrusting Aaron. And, Rick was leading the mistrusting camp. Still, everyone found themselves safely at Alexandria, after surviving a bloody zombie road trip. At Alexandria, a new story arc will be started, for at least a few episodes. Overall, "The Distance" offered an intriguing, plot driven showing. In this episode, Aaron was introduced to the crew. A recruiter for a remote community, Aaron offered shelter, community and a new chance. But, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) has been jaded by his experiences at Woodbury and Terminus. Most people are not trustworthy in the.

Huddled around a fire's flickering flames in last night's episode of AMC's The Walking Dead, Rick Grimes looked at his friends and told them his trick to surviving: convince your mind every morning that you're the walking dead. After several heartbreaking episodes, there could be a glimmer of hope on the horizon for Rick and company, though photos and new videos for next week's installment, "The Distance", prove that danger and distrust still run rampant at every turn.

Boardwalk Empire, “Devil You Know”
Written by Howard Korder
Directed by Jeremy Podeswa
Aired October 12, 2014
After four seasons of deliberately paced, character-based storytelling, Boardwalk Empire wasn’t going to change its approach in its final truncated season. Instead of introducing new intrigues or foes, the series used much of its time to reflect on the paths that brought Nucky and the other main characters to this point and to say an extended goodbye to the people and world of the show. With Nucky facing off against well known historical figures, an air of doom pervades much of the final episodes before they reach their poetic, but inevitable conclusion. More intriguing is the antepenultimate episode, “Devil You Know”, which says goodbye to two of the series’ most colorful characters and powerful actors, Michael Shannon’s George Mueller/Nelson Van Alden and Michael K. Williams’ Chalky White. Shannon’s intense and frequently...

The Walking Dead, Season 5, Episode 7: “Coda”
Directed by Billy Gierhart
Written by Seth Hoffman
Airs Sundays at 9pm Et on AMC
It’s all table setting …
Matthew 27:52
“…and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life.”
Only one episode of The Walking Dead remains until the winter break. Season 5 has been a hell of a ride, complete with cannibals, the death of Bob, and a community held prisoners by a bunch of renegade cops. “Crossed” cuts back and forth between four groups in four different locations in order to set up the big midseason-finale. While it seems a wise decision to check back in with Rick and Michonne after several episodes spent elsewhere, the episode feels like a filler/transitional episode. There are far too many characters to follow in far too many places, and the end result feels somewhat disjointed.

The Walking Dead season 5 is all about showing the effects of loss and grief. Here's Ron's review of the year's penultimate episode...
This review contains spoilers.
5.7 Crossed
The Walking Dead has shown an admirable ability to focus on one particular storyline at a time this season. There'll be some splitting up, but we'll get a Bethisode or a Carol and Daryl caper, or something else focusing on one particular group of our scattered survivors, and very little of what the show did in its second season—split everyone up, then split every episode up. That split style works for something like Game Of Thrones, which features divergent enough cast members and settings to help the viewer keep up with who is where.
That doesn't work quite as well with The Walking Dead, because if you've seen one post-apocalyptic zombie hellscaape, you've seen 'em all. However, the characters look different enough...

The Walking Dead, Season 5, Episode 5: “Self Help”
Directed by Ernest Dickerson
Written by Heather Bellson and Seth Hoffman
Airs Sundays at 9pm Et on AMC
“Self Help” gives Abraham and Eugene their first spotlight since they first made an appearance last season. Eugene has been the sole remaining hope in this post-apocalyptic world, and this week The Walking Dead does a superb job in building and revealing his story. The group, led by Sgt. Abraham Ford (fuelled with a healthy supply of testosterone) hits the open road in a troublesome journey full of pitstops and roadblocks. From a viewer standpoint, the episode can seem frustrating but once we get to the end, we realize that the obstacles and the pitfalls lead to a great payoff. Everything and anything stops Abraham from transporting the mullet-sporting Dr. Eugene Porter to Washington D.C,; but as it turns out, the trip is the least of his worries.

5.5 Self-Help
After last week's surprisingly good Bethisode, The Walking Dead refuses to stick with the storyline that I want to see finished and instead chooses to take a little field trip in the church bus. Yes, rather than seeing the Trojan Carol spring into action with the surprisingly capable Beth at her side (call them Daryl's Angels), we get something of an Abraham origin story. Of course, it's spread throughout the episode in little drips and drops to extend the dramatic tension, but everyone's favorite Fu Manchu gets a little more characterization besides “ginger bad-ass with a stereotypical temper.”
Abraham is in dire need of some fleshing out, so far all we know about him is the above-mentioned hot-headedness and his ability to just go...

During the conversation, Gimple revisits his time as a fan before he became a writer on the series, explains how the second half of Season 4 was deliberately constructed to hew closer to the comic's stories than perhaps the previous season had and his happiness at swerving viewers by not giving them the big, main character death in the season finale so many had come to expect. Gimple also briefly looks ahead to the next season, explains his approach to pulling from and translating the comics to television, addresses the noticeably darker tone of the second half of last season and more. The Walking Dead, Season 4, Episode 15: “Us”

Is there a light at the end of the tunnel?
Last week, I made it pretty clear how much I disliked “The Grove,” calling it the worst episode in the series so far. “Us” doesn’t do much to change the fact that after four seasons of watching and reviewing The Walking Dead, I’ve decided I am breaking up with the show. In the past, I asked for slower and more character-focused episodes. Character is action I say, and while The Walking Dead has taken this approach these last few weeks, it’s also been more often than not, incredibly boring. Splitting everyone into small groups and dispersing them was a wise decision on the part of the writers. The majority of instalments worked extremely well,...

The Walking Dead Episode 415
“Us”
Written By: Nichole Beattie & Seth Hoffman
Directed By: Greg Nicotero
Original Airdate: 23 March 2014
In This Episode…
When Len swoops in and “claims” a bunny that he and Daryl shot at about the same time, Daryl learns a lesson about Joe’s rules: all you have to say is “claim” to lay claim to anything: food, bed, weapon, whatever; you steal, you get killed; and no lying. Len wants to “teach Daryl a lesson” but Joe gives him a pass because he didn’t know the rules. He splits the bunny in half. The group finds a garage to camp in. It is filled with cars. All have been drained of gas, but provide a comfy place to sleep. Daryl won’t call “claim,” so he surrenders to a corner of concrete. Daryl dozes, and wakes to find Len hassling him, claiming that Daryl stole his half of the rabbit.

All roads, or all tracks in this case, lead to Rome and the promise of safety and sanctuary within Terminus. Those who arrive survive, the signs promise, but is that the case? Last summer, it was revealed that David S. Goyer would be directing the fifteenth episode The Walking Dead Season 4, but the official credits that were recently released listed Greg Nicotero as the director. We’ve seen some conflicting reports, so we wanted to provide The Walking Dead fans with official word from AMC.
This started with a quote from David S. Goyer from a DC Entertainment party last July via i09:
“I’m doing a Walking Dead this year — the penultimate episode [of the season]. I haven’t gotten my script yet… I heard it’s an episode where something really bad happens.”
The writer and director is known for his work on Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies, the Blade movies, and he wrote the screenplay for Man of Steel. With DC pushing forward on Batman/Superman and Justice League movies, we weren’t sure he had the time available and that...

With only two episodes left in Season 4, Episode 415 shifts back to another set of characters, including Glenn and his new friends. Get a better idea of what to expect by checking out the first photos and preview videos:
“Following the devastating events of the mid-season finale, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and the group are still reeling from the loss of their home, family and friends. With the destruction of the prison, the group of survivors is broken apart and sent on divergent paths, unsure of everyone else’s fate. What was a challenging life behind fences and walls grows that much more perilous and precious as they are exposed to new dangers, new enemies and heartbreaking choices. They will have their faith thoroughly tested — a faith that breaks some of them and redeems others.

With speculation that villain 'The Governor' (David Morrissey) may return to AMC's ultra-violent 'zombie' TV series "The Walking Dead", take another look @ images from the mid-season finale episode "Too Far Gone", written by Seth Hoffman and directed by Ernest Dickerson, that aired December 1, 2013, showing the character's ultimate fate:
The Governor appeared in 21 episodes of the series (2012-2014), but in "Too Far Gone", he is stabbed in the back by sword-swinging 'Michonne' (Danai Gurira).
As the Governor falls to the ground, with 'walkers' approaching, the character 'Lilly' (Audrey Marie Anderson) shoots him, presumably in the head, but the camera cuts away.
But in images released by AMC, the Governor is revealed with a fatal bullet wound in his forehead, that will save him from becoming a walker.

The Walking Dead, Season 4, Episode 11: “Claimed”
Directed by Seith Mann
Written by Nichole Beattie & Seth Hoffman
Airs Sundays at 9pm Et on AMC
The Walking Dead’s midseason finale saw the various characters scattered in the wake of the prison assault, with the two episodes since the return picking up on the immediate aftermath. With Rick and Glenn both physically depleted by the prison assault and the events leading up to it, their situations seemed the most precarious. This week’s episode focuses on the two characters, as well as those surrounding them, in a solid episode that nonetheless highlights a major flaw with the series as a whole.
The character of Eugene, and the purpose he brings, is an interesting development for the show. The group’s venture to the Cdc in the show’s first season effectively destroyed any possibility of the zombies being cured,...
