New Delhi, Aug 11 (Ians) The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has sent the Asian Games-bound six Greco-Roman wrestlers along with three support staff members to Romania for a 15-day special training and competition camp ahead of the mega event in Hangzhou, China in September-October.

The six Greco-Roman wrestlers that have been picked for this camp in Romania are Gyanendar (60kg), Neeraj (67kg), Vikas (77kg), Sunil Kumar (87kg), Narinder Cheema (97kg) and Naveen (130kg).

The six Asian Games-bound wrestlers have departed for Romania and the proposal was cleared under the Ministry’s ‘Assistance to Nsf Scheme’, it was informed on Friday.

During the visit, the team will also participate in Ion Cornianu and Ladislau Simon event from August 18 to 20.

Pune, May 30 (Ians) Maharashtra Ironmen, one of the franchises set to compete in the inaugural edition of the Premier Handball League starting from June 8, launched their jersey for the season in a glitzy event here on Tuesday.

The unveiling and announcement were carried out by team owner Punit Balan and cricketer Kedar Jadhav, who is also a Maharashtra Ironmen fan, at a star-studded event. Sunil Kumar, head coach, and Ajay Kumar, assistant coach were also in attendance.

The Premier Handball League will be played at the Sawai Mansingh Indoor Stadium in Jaipur, Rajasthan, from June 8-25.

Astana (Kazakhstan), April 11 (Ians) Greco-Roman grappler Vikas won a bronze medal to take India’s tally to four on the second day of the Asian Wrestling Championships 2023, here.

Vikas defeated China’s Jian Tan by 8-0 technical superiority in the men’s 72kg Greco-Roman category, within a remarkable time of 1 min 41 secs on Monday.

The Indian started his campaign strongly with an 11-0 technical superiority win over Korea’s Ji-yeon Lee in the qualification round. However, he suffered a 6-1 loss to Iran’s Sajjad Imentalab in the quarter-finals.

Vikas made the bronze medal bout after Sajjad Imentalab advanced to the final, an olympics.com report said.

Three other Indian wrestlers — Sumit (60kg), Rohit Dahiya (82kg) and Narinder Cheema (97kg) — were in contention for the medals. However, all three of them lost in the bronze medal match.
