Biography

Sanal George is an Indian National Film Award-winning Sound Designer and Production Sound Mixer based in Mumbai, India. With a background rooted in Calicut, Kerala, and a postgraduate degree in Sound Recording and Design from the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, he brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to each project he works on.

While studying at FTII, he was honored with the Asian Film Academy Fellowship in 2013, which was part of the Busan International Film Festival held in Busan, South Korea. He continued to receive recognition for his exceptional work, receiving the Kerala State Award for his contribution to the Malayalam short film "Chaver" in 2016. The following year, Sanal reached the pinnacle of success in his career with the 65th National Films Award of India for 'Best Sound Design' for his work in the feature film "Walking with the Wind".

Sanal began his career as an Assistant Sound Mixer on Shashant Shah's film 'Chalo Dilli' in 2010. Over the years, he has contributed his talent to a wide range of projects across India and internationally, including feature films, web series, short films, and documentaries, serving as both sound designer and production sound mixer. He recently received widespread recognition for his work as the sound designer of the blockbuster Bollywood movie "Gangubai Kathiawadi", released in 2022 and directed by the maverick filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Sanal has worked with a diverse array of production companies, both Indian and international, including Bhansali Productions, RSVP, Maddock Films, Roy Kapur Films, EROS International, ODU Movies, Excel Entertainment, India Take One, Breathless Films, Aamir Khan Productions, Balaji Telefilms, Endemol Shine, NuGen Media, Rising Star, Reverie Entertainment, PEN Movies, History Channel, and the National Geographic Channel. This vast experience has made him an indispensable asset to any production and has earned him a reputation for his exceptional sound design and mixing skills.

His recent projects include the highly acclaimed Netflix series "Mismatched" and "Aranyak," and he is currently (2023) working on Sanjay Leela Bhansali's highly anticipated project "Heeramandi".
