What could go wrong when you send a group of elite soldiers skilled in warfare to an island in the middle of nowhere to extract a VIP? Well! Everything could go wrong, and Philippe Martinez’s 2023 action flick, Black Noise, explores such a scenario. A team of skilled soldiers took up a new task, thinking it would be a simple find-and-extract job. Little did they know the enemies they were going to face there would take more than just bullets to kill.

It all began with Ryan (Wayne Gordon) receiving a call from his superiors while he was enjoying his holiday in St. Martin with his team. His squad included Naomi (Ashton Leigh), Leila (Sadie Newman), Leo (Jackson Rathbone), and Jordan. Unfortunately, his superiors wanted Ryan to cancel his holiday and make preparations to extract a target of high value from an exclusive island. The island wasn’t for everyone.

Alex Pettyfer stars in the terrifying action thriller Black Noise, which is out out now on Digital Platforms including Google, Apple TV, Sky and Amazon Prime Video in the UK & Ireland.

He jokingly said the movie could have been subtitled The Horror of the Shrinking Bank Account.

The cast intrigued me immediately with horror mainstays like Bill Moseley and Lin Shaye (Insidious) on board, and a whole load of other acting talents, many of whom do a good job here. The problem here is, however, the tired cliches it approaches time and again.

We have the first trailer for you to check out from the film Semper Fi, from writer and director Henry Alex Rubin (Murderball) and co-writer Sean Mullin (Amira & Sam). The film stars Jai Courtney and Nat Wolff as brothers who are trying to connect, on opposite sides of the law. Here’s the synopsis for the film:

Cal (Jai Courtney) is a by-the-book police officer who, along with his close-knit group of childhood friends, makes ends meet as a Marine Corps reservist. When his reckless younger half-brother, Oyster, is arrested after a bar fight and given an unfair prison sentence, Cal – driven by his loyalty to family and fierce code of honor – fights for Oyster (Nat Wolff) in this gripping tale of brotherhood and sacrifice.

When I was a kid I loved the monster mash ups that Universal made during the end of their run of classic monster movies. In fact the very first Universal Monster movie I ever got to see was House Of Dracula, which featured Lon Chaney’s Wolfman, John Carradine’s Dracula, Glenn Strange’s version of Frankenstein’s Monster plus a mad scientist and a hunchbacked nurse.

Many times over the years those classic monsters have been put through their paces in one form or another, in different configurations. Film makers as diverse as Paul Naschy, Jess Franco, Al Adamson and Ed Wood have thrown together two or more of the classic monsters from Hollywood’s golden age, usually to mixed results. The ultimate monster mash up, in my opinion, is Fred Dekker’s Monster Squad, one of my favorite movies of all time.
