Jones was a stand-out high school wrestler and state champion at Union-Endicott High School. Also played football. He won a national JUCO championship at Iowa Central Community College. Studied Criminal Justice at Morrisville State College, but dropped out to begin his MMA career.

Is a professional MMA fighter, who is a two-time Light Heavyweight Champion in the UFC. Has a black belt in Gaidojutsu and a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
