Grief makes people do strange things, but we can’t fault William — in this Friday’s Outlander (Starz, 8/7c) — for thinking that his grieving father might’ve lost his mind a little.

The most recent new episode of Outlander, "Brotherly Love," ends with a monster twist: Lord John Grey (David Berry) delivers the bad news to his friend Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) that her husband Jamie (Sam Heughan) has likely died on his way to the American colonies, since the ship he was on sunk.
Naturally, Claire is devastated. “There are a lot of twists and turns,” Balfe told TV Insider about Claire’s journey this season. “I think for Claire anyway, this is her reality. This is the news she’s been given, and...apart from how she feels, she has no reason really not to believe it.”
Now, if you're watching at home, you probably don't believe that Jamie is really dead; he's one of the main characters, actor Sam Heughan is the show's biggest breakout star, and we're only two episodes into season 7 part 2 with six to go. Odds...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Outlander, Season 7, Episode 10, “Brotherly Love.”] Outlander may have pulled Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) apart in the most recent Season 7 episode, “Brotherly Love,” but it brought another pair back together as Young Ian (John Bell) and Rachel (Izzy Meikle-Small) were reunited. After arriving in Philadelphia, Ian is greeted by his trusty dog Rollo, but Rachel is nowhere to be found after the pet wandered from her side to his. While much of the episode sees the pair missing each other, Ian is eventually directed to the stables where he finds Rachel being held up by Arch Bug (Hugh Ross), who has vowed to take her life after Ian killed his wife. While Ian manages to get Arch away from Rachel, it is William (Charles Vandervaart) who intervenes, shooting the old man to protect Ian from being axed in the head after taking a blade to the arm in the scuffle.

Outlander has returned for the second half of its seventh season, which began with several blasts from the past as Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) returned to Jamie's native Scotland. We see lots of faces from Jamie's past, including Laoghaire (Nell Hudson), his ex-wife.
Jamie and Laoghaire have had a tense relationship over the years, with lots of painful ups and downs, but Jamie feels the need to reach out to her and set things right. "He's an honourable man. He feels a sense of duty," Heughan told Radio Times. "And I also feel like there's still... despite their rather tumultuous, kind of crazy history that they've had together, there's still a part of him that remembers the young Jamie and the young Laoghaire."
He knows deep down that she's hurting. He wants to help her, he wants to make sure that she's Ok, but also Joni...

Tomorrow, Starz will begin airing new episodes of Outlander, delivering the second half of the show's seventh season. The new season will continue digging into the Outlander books by Diana Gabaldon. We'll get to catch up with the likes of Jamie and Claire Fraser (Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe) as well as long-time Fraser family friends like Lord John Grey (David Berry) and John's "son" William (Charles Vandervaart), who is actually Jamie's son, even though Lord John Grey raised him.
William doesn't know Jamie is his real father yet, which will no doubt lead to all kinds of drama once the new episodes start up. In fact, Lord John Grey is such a dynamic character that Gabaldon has written a series of novels and novellas just focused on him, which has led to a lot of fans asking for a Lord John Grey spinoff over the years. Now, for the first time,...

For Outlander fans who have long longed for a Lord John Grey spinoff, David Berry, who plays the character in the original Starz series, has some insight to share.
As a refresher, the hit Outlander series, which will conclude its run with the upcoming eighth season, is based on the best-selling novels by Diana Gabaldon. She also authored a Lord John Grey series consisting of three novels and six novellas, which Starz CEO Jeffrey Hirsch has shown interest in expanding into a TV series of its own. There have been no major developments on that front yet.
Berry opened up about what transpired behind the scenes in a chat with Deadline earlier today while promoting the mothership series’ upcoming Season 7 Part 2 premiere on November 22 via Starz.
“I haven’t spoken about this. But I think that since the series is over, I feel a bit more comfortable talking about it,...

The full trailer for Starz’s Outlander season seven part two promises the long-awaited new episodes are going to put fans through the emotional wringer. Jamie, Claire, and Ian return to Scotland, but as anyone who’s read Diana Gabaldon’s seventh book of the series knows, there’s plenty of turmoil ahead for the Fraser family.
“Coming off the first half of Outlander season seven, we find Claire, Jamie, and Young Ian leaving the colonies and arriving in their beloved homeland: Scotland. The perils of the Revolutionary War force them to choose between standing by those they love and fighting for the land they have made their new home,” reads Starz’s synopsis. “Meanwhile, Roger and Brianna face new enemies across time and must battle the forces that threaten to pull their family apart. As loyalties change and painful secrets come to light, Jamie and Claire’s marriage is tested like never before.

“Outlander” fans are going to have to wait a bit longer for their happily ever after because that’s not what the second half of Season 7 is promising. Tied to New York Comic Con, Starz dropped a new trailer for this upcoming batch of episodes. Prepare for some serious heartache.
The trailer for the second half of Season 7 starts happily enough. As Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitríona Balfe) stand together, Jamie says, “We got our own wish. We’re going home to Scotland.”
That peace is short lived when Claire is called away. While she’s separated from her love, she receives some dark news. “A storm’s coming. And not one of this Earth but one of my own making,” someone ominously says. The trailer then shows a panicked looking Jamie before cutting to an English officer holding a gun. As Claire hears the news, she tears up.

It’s that time of year again, when the TV academy announces its annual list of Emmy nominations, and “Outlander” fans worldwide are left scratching their heads wondering why their favorite show was left off of the list. Part 1 of Season 7 aired in 2023 from June 16 to August 11 on Starz, which makes it eligible for the 2024 Emmys. But alas, on Tuesday morning, the fantasy epic was not nominated in any category — moment of silence, please.
To be clear, “Outlander” hasn’t been nominated in any Emmy category in the past six years. It was last cited in 2018 for Best Period Costumes, losing to “The Crown.” It also lost that same race in 2016 to “Game of Thrones.” Its only other bids were for Best Period Production Design in 2016, losing to “Downton Abbey,” and Best Music Composition in 2015, losing to “House of Cards.”

2023 was a year full of highs and lows for fans of “Outlander.” High: Their favorite romance epic returned for Season 7, Part 1 (which aired from June 16 to August 11) after more than a year-long drought. Low: But it just failed to receive any Golden Globe nominations on the morning of Monday, December 11. High: Starz officially green-lighted a prequel series titled “Outlander: Blood of My Blood,” to air in the near future. Low: But that meant the parent series would officially be ending with Season 8. Deep breaths, “Outlander” fans — we’ll all get through this together.
Voters of the Golden Globe association snubbed “Outlander” in the top Best Drama Series category, and its leading stars — Caitriona Balfe as Claire Fraser for Best Drama Actress and Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser for Best Drama Actor — were skunked, too. So why was Season 7, Part 1 of “Outlander” not nominated at the 2024 Golden Globes?

[This interview was conducted prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike authorization.] Outlander‘s seventh season paves the way for America’s Revolutionary War, and on either side of the fight are Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and his son William (Charles Vandervaart). The gravity of this situation has yet to be fully unveiled as Jamie and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) flee Fort Ticonderoga at the end of Episode 5, “Singapore,” just as William bids the Hunters farewell to take up arms with the red coats. The episode begins with Brianna (Sophie Skelton) finding Jemmy and Mandy in the old family graveyard and reminding them it’s not a playground. Jem admits that Mandy wanted to speak to granddad, although no one knows if that’s where he’s buried. Bree agrees it’s possible, and Jem confesses that he built a cairn for Jamie.
It’s too difficult for Bree even to enter the graveyard, so she remains at the gate. She’s not ready to take that step yet.
Bree returns home and holds more of her mom and dad’s letters. Roger (Richard Rankin) joins her, and she explains that the kids visit Jamie...

Season 7 of “Outlander” began airing on June 16, which means it’s ineligible to compete at the current 2023 Emmys — that’s why it’s not nominated for anything on Wednesday morning. (See the list of nominations.) Even if Starz’s sweeping romance epic had aired within the eligibility period of June 2022 – May 2023, it’s unlikely Emmy voters would have showered it with much love. Why? Because, shockingly, “Outlander” hasn’t been nominated in any category in the past five years.
To date, the cult TV series has only received a grand total of four bids: music composition (2015), period production design (2016) and period costumes (2016 and 2018). The list of egregious snubs includes lead actors Caitriona Balfe (who plays time-traveling doctor Claire Randall Fraser) and Sam Heughan (who plays her Highlander true love Jamie Fraser), plus all of the show’s writers, directors and producers.

The Droughtlander is over! Outlander has returned to Starz, and the Fraser family is reckoning with the reality that they cannot hide from the Revolutionary War. Everyone will have to make the choice to join the fight or stay out of it.
Den Of Geek spoke to showrunner Maril Davis and returning actors Sophie Skelton, Richard Rankin, David Berry, and John Bell, plus new to this season actors Charles Vandervaart, Joey Phillips, and Izzy Meikle-Small, to get the behind-the-scenes scoop on how Outlander is bringing a character-focused perspective to history that viewers are already familiar with.
Although Outlander Season 7 is split into two halves, all 16 episodes were filmed together, which Davis admits she initially found daunting. “I thought it would be worse than it was,” she says. “I thought season one was a challenge. I...

Richard Rankin and Sophie Skelton in ‘Outlander’ season 7 episode 4 (Photo Credit: Starz)
Starz’s Outlander season seven episode four opens with a short time jump to Lallybroch in 1980. Two years have passed since Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and Roger (Richard Rankin) purchased the property, and the family’s living in a mobile home in the front yard while it’s being repaired. Jemmy and Mandy have reached the fighting siblings stage, and Mandy hits her older brother with a stick. Mandy only grudgingly says she’s sorry.
It’s revealed Bree and Roger won’t let the workers paint over the dining room murals or fix a large spot on the wall. There’s still so much work to be done that the estimate’s jumped up to what Bree describes as an “astronomical” figure. They’re halfway through their money and not even close to having bedrooms at this point.

Like father like son. Too bad they’re on opposite sides of the American Revolution. Jamie Frasier’s (Sam Heughan) little boy is now all grown up and a redcoat. Brave William Ransom (Charles Vandervaart) — who still doesn’t know Jamie’s his true dad — goes on a wild ride in the fourth episode of Outlander when he’s tasked with delivering a secret message for the British. “He is really eager to serve king and country, but I don’t think he fully understands what that means, the loss that he’ll experience and the brutalism of it all. He finds out very quickly, obviously,” Vandervaart, who joined the time travel saga this season, tells us in the fourth installment of our Inside Outlander aftershow. He joins actors David Berry and John Bell to talk about the events of Episode 4 and hint about what’s to come. Something that...
