Netflix has shared a first look at The Life List, which is an upcoming adaptation of the Lori Nelson Spielman novel of the same name. Written and directed by Adam Brooks, The Life List will begin streaming on March 28, 2025.

In the film, when Alex Rose’s (Sofia Carson) mother sends her on a quest to complete her childhood bucket list, it takes her on a journey that will make you both laugh and cry as she uncovers family secrets, finds romance, and discovers herself along the way.

Los Angeles-based Viva Kids has nabbed a stake in 3Doubles Producciones, a 2D/3D animation studio in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain.

For now, Viva has acquired a minority interest with an option to acquire a majority stake after two years.

Founded by Darío Sánchez in 2017, the company currently employs more than a hundred at its headquarters in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Mercury Steam owner Ignacio Navas and Aliot Innovation founder José Ángel Olmo became partners at 3Doubles in 2020. 3Doubles’ slate of animated films includes “Inspector Sun and the Curse of the Black Widow,” “The Ogglies,” “Mia and Me: The Hero of Centopia,” “My Fairy Troublemaker” and “Daily Fables.”

Muscular island incentives and the annual presence of multiple animation events, such as Animayo, that focuses on its didactic and recruiting components, has helped boost the animation industry in the Canary Islands, with some 25 companies sprouting up in recent years.

Spain’s animation services and VFX industry is booming as never before, positioning itself as a leading hub in the global landscape.

With tax rebates firing up Spain’s audiovisual industry, the animation sector has produced 16 feature films, 72 seasons of TV series and 156 short films from 2020-2022, according to toon and VFX federation Diboos.

The 2019 Sergio Pablos-directed Netflix feature “Klaus” snagged seven Annie awards, while Alberto Mielgo’s “The Windshield Wiper” won the 2022 Oscar for animated short film.

Spanish animated features have also connected with international audiences: This year, Juan Jesús García Galocha’s “Mummies,” from 4Cats and Atresmedia Cine, grossed $52 million worldwide, handled by Warner Bros.

Another strategy for international success consists in luring the interest of powerful foreign players to invest in local talent and resources.

Most prominently, Skydance Animation has landed in Madrid, while France’s Fortiche and In Efecto have launched operations in the Canary Islands.

The streaming service canceled the Jason Katims drama on Wednesday after one season.

The news is a bit of a surprise because Apple TV+ has canceled few shows after their first seasons.

But Dear Edward didn't break out in the way the service expected.

Dear Edward launched with the first three episodes of its 10-episode first season on Friday, February 3, 2023, followed by one new episode weekly every Friday through March 24, 2023.

The series was adapted from Napolitano's bestselling, acclaimed novel of the same name, Dear Edward is a heartbreaking, life-affirming, and uplifting story about survival, resilience, connection, and the examination of what makes us human.

Executive producer Jason Katims is now set up at Imagine TV, but “Dear Edward” came from his deal with Apple Studios, which produced the show. Written, showrun and executive produced by Katims, the 10-episode “Dear Edward” was adapted from author Ann Napolitano’s novel about a 12-year-old boy who is the only survivor of a commercial plane crash.

The iPhone maker/streamer has canceled its Jason Katims-produced drama Dear Edward, making the series about the lone survivor of a plane crash one of Apple’s few scripted shows to get the ax after a single season.

Based on the book by Ann Napolitano, the series reunited Friday Night Lights creator Katims with leading lady Connie Britton and revolved around Edward (Colin O’Brien), a young boy who was the lone survivor of a plane crash. Confirming the increasingly strong interest by international buyers in Spanish animated features, Pink Parrot Media has scored a bevy of key European pre-sales on upcoming Spanish family adventure toon film “4 Days Before Christmas,” led by deals with Splendid in Germany and Kaleidoscope in the U.K.

Produced by Spain’s 3Doubles Producciones and Capitán Araña with Canada’s Pvp Media, directed by Steve Majaury and Andrea Sebastián, “4 Days Before Christmas” was one of the five noteworthy animated works in progress presented at this week’s Malaga Film Festival–Spanish Screenings to the international industry.

On Tuesday, March 14, five recent outstanding Spanish animated works in progress will be pitched by their producers to the international industry during the event.

Animation Day forms part of Spanish Screenings Content at Malaga Festival’s industry zone Mafiz, supported by Icex Spain’s Trade & Investment entity with the collaboration of Diboos, the Spanish Federation of Animation Producers and the VFX Production Companies Associations.

The five Wip animated titles selected are “4 Days Before Christmas,” a produced by 3Doubles Producciones and Capitán Araña with Canada’s Pvp Media; Barcelona-based Doce Entertainment’s Latin American project “Dalia and the Red Book”; Salvador Simó’s Spain-China toon feature “Dragonkeeper”; Abano Producions, El Gatoverde and Uniko’s German co-production “Sultana’s Dream”; and “Rock Bottom,” a Spain-Poland co-production from Alba Sotorra, Jaibo Films and Gs Animation.

Jason Katims’ adaptation of Ann Napolitano’s Dear Edward isn’t a wink-and-nudge kind of show, but in a late-season episode, a pair of characters are doing what amounts to a debriefing on the drama’s myriad plotlines and one of them realizes that two of the ongoing stories have been very, very similar.

“Oh, well that … echoes,” says the character who spent the season less involved in the various main arcs.

It’s hard to tell if the partially tongue-in-cheek acknowledgment represents self-awareness on the part of Katims and company that Dear Edward relies heavily on narrative repetition, or if he genuinely wasn’t sure that viewers would be clever enough to make the very obvious connections on their own. During its presentation at the Television Critics Association’s winter 2023 press tour, Apple TV+ revealed a trailer for comedy series “Shrinking” starring Jason Segel and Harrison Ford, which premieres on Jan. 27.

The series follows Jimmy (Segel), a grieving therapist who starts to break the rules and tell his clients exactly what he thinks. Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge, tumultuous changes to people’s lives, including his own. Ford plays Jimmy’s boss, who runs the therapy practice. Also starring are Christa Miller, Jessica Williams, Michael Urie, Luke Tennie and Lukita Maxwell.
