Carter Winter (b. Alexander Carter Unger) was born in New Jersey, but at a young age moved to Eastport, ME for his formative years. He received artistic training from his uncles Josh and Toby Mostel, the sons of Broadway legend Zero. He returned to the New York metropolitan area and was heavily involved in the theatre and other arts while at the Solebury School of New Hope, PA. He attended Rutgers University for a BFA in Fine Arts - Video, where he produced music videos, short films, and experimental video art. Fun fact: he attended with actor Sebastian Stan.
After moving to New York City in 2008, Carter has acted in, wrote, produced, and directed numerous short films. He studied acting at HB Studios and Michael Howard Studios. He's received professional screenwriting coaching from Joe Gilford.
His breakout short DEAD LAYER (2018) starring Cameron Douglas and Josh Mostel, got him in the Hollywood Reporter and scored him his first screenplay option. It had an international festival run.
He has written over ten feature films, and sold his first in 2021. He has several other feature films in development, and is also co-producing a documentary about a famous New York photographer.
