Ethan James was born in a small town in Southeast Texas. He grew up with aspirations of becoming a writer, as he wrote poetry and short stories during his elementary, middle, and high school years. He studied poetry and prose/short fiction at Texas A&M University where he earned his BA and MA. During this time, he also served as editor in chief of the university newspaper (largest student-run print publication in the nation at the time), worked as a city news reporter, and managed a regional entertainment magazine. In the fall of 2005, after graduate school, he headed off to Tennessee to tackle his PhD in film and children's literature. He furthered a previous interest in photography and soon developed his photography studio - Ethan James Photography. He received his PhD in 2010 and teaches college English (composition, literature, business writing, creative writing, research) with a film emphasis. His photographs have appeared in magazine and book publications nationally and internationally (Brazil, Australia, London, Germany, NY, etc.). He finished his first book on film in 2013, which was released by McFarland Publishers with a focus on horror film remakes. He has also tried his hand as a casting director and still photographer in Scenes from a Gay Marriage (2012), More Scenes from a Gay Marriage (2014), and Paternity Leave (2015) (all directed by Matt Riddlehoover who also chronicled Ethan James' work in the art documentary Gaze (2010)). Ethan James resides in Texas as of 2016.
