Our New South, the Signal Award and Anthem Award-winning podcast from the Levine Museum of the New South and Next Chapter Podcasts, returns for an all-new season today, January 21.
Building on the success of the debut season, Washington Post journalist Kevin Blackistone and history professor Dr. Robert Greene II host a series of conversations that explore the complexities of the many Souths that make up today’s New South.
The 10-episode season highlights the stories, communities and challenges shaping the region, diving into censorship and healthcare, tourism and religion, struggles for rights and resources, and the global reverberations of New South culture.
Inspiring stories from guests including Aarón Sánchez, Amanda Jones (librarian & author), Speech (hip-hop artist from Arrested Development), Dr. Tonya Matthews (President and CEO of Charleston’s International African American Museum), and more provide unique perspectives on how the South is changing, how it remains familiar, and how it may look in the future.

In 2019, a curious thing happened to music streaming: The two biggest players in the industry, Spotify and Apple, both quietly stopped referring to themselves as music services. Though the two tech giants still tout their millions-strong song catalogs as the core of their products, the year has seen a series of aggressive moves from each of them in a different arena altogether.
That would be non-music audio content — and specifically podcasts, a booming format that attracts one-fifth of U.S. adults each week, according to Nielsen’s latest audience report.

Johnathon Schaech, Ethan Embry, and Tom Everett Scott rocked the Roxy on Tuesday night.
The trio’s on-stage performance in Los Angeles marked the latest semi-reunion of The Wonders, formerly named The Oneders, from the 1996 movie That Thing You Do! While they were sans Tom Hanks, who played Mr. White, Schaech (Jimmy Mattingly), Embry (the unnamed bass player), and Scott (Shades) rocked out to the titular song.
“I hate that song,” Embry recalled to EW of the track for the film’s 20th anniversary. “I remember it reached that point of, like, ‘I can’t play this song one more time.

The crowd at the Roxy in L.A. received an unexpected bonus last night when That Thing You Do! movie band The Wonders (a.k.a. Oneders)—Tom Everett Scott (drummer Shades), Johnathon Schaech (singer Jimmy), and bass player Ethan Embry (The Bass Player)—reunited onstage to perform their singular, eponymous hit.
