Altaf Mahmud was born on 23 December 1933 in Barisal, Bengal Presidency, British India [now in Barishal, Bangladesh]. He was a composer and actor, known for The Day Shall Dawn (1959), Tanha (1964) and Anowara (1967). He was married to Sara Ara Mahmud. He died on 30 August 1971 in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
