Never watched American Idol prior to taking part in the show.

When he was 7, lightning struck his house and since then, he has spent his childhood not having a TV.

After a serious motorcycle accident at 21, he was told by his doctors that he would never be able to play guitar again. He beat the odds and has been considered one of the best guitar players on the show.

Had one DUI arrest and a reckless driving arrest between 2001 and 2003.
