Varun Kumar(I)

Founder and Creative Director of Blind Prophet Films, Varun Kumar has been telling stories for as long as he can remember. Be it through music, visual art, or literature, Varun has excelled in crafting stories out of his real life experiences and observations of humanity and the chaos that surrounds it. A graduate from University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts, Varun wrote and directed the critically acclaimed short film "Shaheed" at the film school, where it was received with a mix of controversy and appreciation. The film, dealing with post 9/11 racial profiling and its detrimental effect on the American democratic fabric, was only the first in Varun's depiction of minority groups in the U.S. His most recent project, a documentary on South Asian American youth and their cultural exploration of bhangra dance, questions the most fundamental assumptions on what it means to be American. Aside from developing future documentary and dramatic projects, Varun also works as freelance editor and camera operator in Los Angeles, CA.
