Her parents had reported her missing in January of 2014. In June, following a tip, police divers found her body dismembered and stuffed in a suitcase at the bottom of Lake Garda in Italy. Her boyfriend, 55-year-old Franco Mossoni, had been detained by police since February after he had burst into a hospital in Vicenza dressed like "Rambo" and brandishing a pistol. Blood had been found in his car and the passenger seat had been replaced by a deck chair. Police said they had received a tip that a man matching Mossoni's description had been seen dumping a suitcase into Lake Garda. He had recently been released from prison after having served 30 years for a murder he had committed in 1978.
