Rumor: Lucasfilm Planning A Mandoverse-Style Slate Of Star Wars Movie Set Post-the Rise Of Skywalker
At Star Wars Celebration in 2023, Lucasfilm revealed its plans for a new Star Wars movie revolving around Daisy Ridley's Rey Skywalker. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is still attached to direct the movie, which has been through multiple writers since it was first announced.
Now, with The Adjustment Bureau and The Bourne Ultimatum's George Nolfi hard at work on the latest draft, scooper Daniel Richtman (via SFFGazette.com) has shared some new insights into Lucasfilm's post-The Rise of Skywalker plans.
He explains that it will be similar to the "Mandoverse," with multiple stories told in that period. The first of those is expected to be Daily Ridley's New Jedi Order, an indication that Star Wars: Starfighter may not be part of this slate.
That's been widely reported to take place 5 years after Episode IX, with the Rey-led movie set 15 years later. There may be some loose threads between them, but...

Star John Boyega has had a tremendous post-Star Wars run. After playing Finn in the sequel trilogy, Boyega headlined a string of well-reviewed genre films, returning to his roots. He broke out with a charming lead role in the British science-fiction film Attack the Block, before being cast in one of the lead roles in Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens. Among his recent films is the drama-thriller Breaking, which was released theatrically in 2022, following a premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. The fact-based movie was compared to the Al Pacino classic Dog Day Afternoon, and earned excellent reviews. Although it didn't make much of a dent at the box office, Breaking is climbing up the streaming charts following its debut on Netflix.
According to FlixPatrol, Breaking was the ninth-most-watched film on Netflix worldwide on August 5. It outperformed An Honest Life, and finished just behind Gladiator II. The...

For half a century, Star Wars fans have accepted a simple yet enduring truth: Han Solo is the rugged smuggler with a fast ship, and Chewbacca is his loyal sidekick. But what if we’ve had it backward this whole time? What if Han Solo is actually Chewbacca’s pet?
Yes, it sounds ridiculous. But stop for a moment and really think about it. Look past the blaster and the bravado, and the dynamic between Han and Chewie starts to look a lot less like “pilot and co-pilot,” and a lot more like “dog and human”—except Chewbacca is the one holding the leash.
Let’s break it down.
Chewie is clearly the adult in the room
Han Solo is the plucky, rude, yapping scoundrel. He runs his mouth. Constantly. He’s impulsive, arrogant, and more often than not, just making things worse. And who’s always there to clean up the mess?...

If you asked a million people what they think about "Star Wars: Episode VIII -- The Last Jedi," you might end up getting a million different answers. Rian Johnson's unexpectedly complex sequel to "The Force Awakens" blew the doors open on what a "Star Wars" movie could be and proved to be a lightning rod for the most toxic members of the "Star Wars" fandom. The film's approach to what came before it is in keeping with "Star Wars" creator George Lucas' own ethos, and its defenders continue to uphold "The Last Jedi" as the most exciting entry in the franchise to come out of the Disney era.
That division even carries over to the film's cast, as the movie's actors have begun to share their own complicated thoughts and feelings about "The Last Jedi" candidly over the years. John Boyega, whose defecting former stormtrooper Finn was unfortunately sidelined...

Spoiler Alert: This story discusses major plot developments in “Superman,” currently playing in theaters.
The first time Edi Gathegi learned about Mister Terrific, it was from James Gunn’s social media feed. When Gunn was named the co-chief of DC Studios in 2023, one of his first public actions was to post a picture of the lesser known DC comics character (whose civilian name is Michael Holt), which spurred the internet to begin speculating on which actor could play the role.
One of the first suggestions was Gathegi. “So my thought was, ‘Let me look him up,’” Gathegi recalls. He really liked what he saw.
“Fourteen PhDs, polyglot, polymath, auto-didactic, natural aptitude for natural aptitudes, Olympic athlete — all of these characteristics,” he says, his face lighting up listing just how, well, terrific the character really is. “But then there’s a big wound. Edi Gathegi first found out about Mister Terrific through James Gunn’s social media. When Gunn became co-chief of DC Studios in 2023, one of his first posts was a picture of Mister Terrific, a lesser-known DC character whose real name is Michael Holt. This sparked a lot of guesses online about who might play him.
Gathegi was one of the first actors suggested. He said, “So my thought was, ‘Let me look him up.’” After reading about the character, he was impressed. “Fourteen PhDs, polyglot, polymath, auto-didactic, natural aptitude for natural aptitudes, Olympic athlete — all of these characteristics,” he said, smiling as he described the character.
But he also noticed the darker side: Mister Terrific lost his wife and almost gave up on life before being visited by The Spectre, who told him about the previous Mister Terrific and inspired him to take up the mantle. Gathegi added, “I thought,...

Edi Gathegi didn’t know much about Mister Terrific until James Gunn posted a picture of the DC superhero on social media. This happened back in 2023 when Gunn became the co-boss of DC Studios.
Fans immediately started guessing who might play the role, and Gathegi was one of the first names people suggested. He remembered, “So my thought was, ‘Let me look him up.’” Once he read about the character, he liked what he found.
Mister Terrific, also known as Michael Holt, is not a simple superhero. Gathegi said, “Fourteen PhDs, polyglot, polymath, auto-didactic, natural aptitude for natural aptitudes, Olympic athlete — all of these characteristics.” But what really got his attention was the character’s pain. Mister Terrific lost his wife and nearly took his own life before being inspired to become a hero.
Gathegi compared him to famous characters, saying, “I thought, this is a character who’s equal parts d’Artagnan and Sherlock Holmes.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Knives Outdirector Rian Johnson opens up about his past loathing for the Prequel Trilogy.
Per Rolling Stone, Johnson recently recalled the backlash to 2017's Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which in turn led him to look back at his own former disdain for the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy.
"In the moment, it's a complicated chain of reactions to it. It never feels good to have anybody coming after you on the internet, and especially coming after you saying things that I think I very much do not agree with about a thing I made and put a lot of heart and soul into," Johnson said.

Netflix boasts a solid sci-fi film library, so it can be tough to decide where to start.
The streamer is currently home to modern hits like “Godzilla Minus One” and “Furiosa,” classics that deserve to be seen like “Starship Troopers” and fun-for-the-whole-family offerings like the Oscar-nominated animated hit “The Wild Robot.” With a library like that, there really is something for everyone.
Below, we laid out nine sci-fi film options to check out when you’re next at a loss for what to watch.
Toho Godzilla Minus One
Every modern attempt at a new Godzilla film has consistently been weak in the same category: the human element. That is, until “Godzilla Minus One” rolled through town. The film is set in Japan right after WWII and follows a former soldier who rallies a group to face off against the titan as a way to redeem himself from an earlier encounter during the war.

2017's "Get Out" is one of the great feature film debuts in modern history, if not all of filmdom. Jordan Peele, best known up to that time as a comedic writer and performer, shocked the world with a socially-minded horror-thriller about a Black man named Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) who visits the parents of his white girlfriend Rose (Allison Williams) and discovers a terrifying conspiracy. It was a colossal box office hit, won an Oscar, and was recently named the eighth-best film of the 21st century by the New York Times.
Whether you've recently experienced "Get Out" for the first time or have revisited the sunken place on multiple occasions, we've got a collection of similar films to scratch that particular itch. Some are explicit comments on the ills of our world, others are darkly comedic horrors willing to dive into the grotesque, and all will take you on a wild ride.

When you think about the best streamers for movie-lovers, it's possible that Hulu might not rise to the top of your list. It has a deceptively deep library, though, as its affiliation with Disney and (what used to be) 20th Century Fox sees a lot of catalog titles making a temporary home there. Like Netflix, the streamer still focuses on relatively newer releases, but there are gems both old and new to be found if you dig through its offerings.

It's not often that you find a film with an impeccable 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Such has been the appeal and success of AMC+'s modern Western series Dark Winds. Created by Graham Roland and based on Tony Hillerman’s Leaphorn & Chee novels, Dark Winds has been one of AMC+’s most successful original series since its debut in 2022. Set in the 1970s American Southwest, the show centers on Navajo police officers Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) and Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon) as they investigate crimes deeply entangled with Native traditions and personal trauma.
However, in the world of streaming charts, with its potential for volatility, Dark Winds has found itself knocked down a couple of pegs on the streaming charts. The unexpected challenger? Five years after Chadwick Boseman's shocking death, debate remains over whether his role as King T'Challa in the Black Panther franchise should go to someone else. With Marvel Studios reportedly thinking about recasting T'Challa, one F1 actor linked with the role coyly addressed the rumors.
During an appearance on NBC's Today Show Damson Idris played a yes or no game where he was asked whether he'd spoken to Marvel about potentially becoming the next Black Panther. Idris smiled and cheekily answered with a "yes-no" when queried before rebuffing the host's claim that such an answer meant yes. "It could mean no," he said. When pressed whether he'd answer the call to potentially play T'Challa in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Idris said he would.

At long last, Netflix is pulling back the curtain on Kathryn Bigelow's mysterious new movie at the streaming service. Since last year, the Oscar-winning director behind The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty, and Point Break has been quietly assembling a star-studded cast for her first feature in eight years, including Idris Elba and Rebecca Ferguson. Only now, however, do we have an official title and release date for her long-awaited return, and it is not far off. The project will go under the name A House of Dynamite and is officially set to stream on the platform on October 24. In a rare move by Netflix, it will also be available in select theaters during the month.
Featuring a screenplay penned by Noah Oppenheim, who previously created Netflix's Robert De Niro-led political thriller series Zero Day, A House of Dynamite is also a thriller centered on the White House.

Netflix may have become a home for several run-of-the-mill movies and TV shows, but one of their most unpredictable shows is by far Love, Death & Robots. Now, MovieWeb has an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the making of the latest season, which you can see below.
Love, Death & Robots debuted in 2019 with a collection of stories that ranged from dark satire to outright horror, all under the guidance of executive producers including David Fincher and Tim Miller. Tyler Perry’s Straw (2025) is a raw and emotionally charged Netflix thriller that dives headfirst into the devastating spiral of poverty, systemic neglect, and racial injustice in America. At its center is Taraji P. Henson’s soul-baring performance as Janiyah, a single Black mother desperately trying to survive one of the worst days of her life. As her world collapses piece by piece—losing her job, her car, her daughter, and even her sense of self—Janiyah finds herself entangled in an accidental bank standoff. With a powerful supporting cast including Sherri Shepherd, Teyana Taylor, and Ashley Versher, and Perry’s signature blend of melodrama and social critique, Straw is a heartbreaking but timely story of how quickly the system can fail those it is meant to protect.
If you found yourself moved by Janiyah’s harrowing journey and are looking for movies like Straw that also explore desperate individuals confronting injustice,...

In 1977, the science-fiction genre changed forever when "Star Wars" released in theaters. By 2025, "Star Wars" is almost taken for granted, with fans wishing new movies and TV shows could save the franchise. It may seem impossible to remember a time when new "Star Wars" projects were scarce, but even a few years after the release of "Episode IV: A New Hope," creators were taking inspiration from George Lucas' magnum opus.
Whether they're sketches on "Saturday Night Live" or entire feature-length movies, it's no surprise that the multimedia franchise has garnered a plethora of parodies. All kinds of comedy outlets, from "The Simpsons" to "The Whitest Kids U' Know," have spoofed "Star Wars," but only a few have rivaled the original trilogy's greatness.
These 13 parodies and spoofs of "Star Wars" don't just mock the sci-fi franchise, but at times they pay homage in ways that might seem way too committed even for hardcore Jedi enthusiasts.

Janiyah Wiltkinson (Taraji P. Henson), the protagonist of Tyler Perry’s latest feature Straw, is having one of the worst days of her life. The trouble starts when her daughter Aria (Gabrielle Jackson) tells Janiyah that she needs $40 to pay her school lunch debt, otherwise the administrators will publicly shame her again. Then Janiyah’s landlord threatens to evict her that day if she doesn’t come up with rent.
Things only get worse at work: Janiyah gets into a minor altercation with a customer trying to buy prohibited items with her Wic card, and her boss, Richard (Glynn Turman), a cantankerous old man, refuses to give her an advance on her paycheck. Later, when Janiyah confronts Richard about the money, the pair gets robbed by masked gunmen.

“Rebel Ridge” writer-director Jeremy Saulnier remembers the exact moment that he realized his Netflix thriller was a hit.
He had been invited to attend a fight in Las Vegas. As he was walking through the casino behind Aaron Pierre—who stars in “Rebel Ridge” as Terry Richmond, a Marine veteran who uncovers corruption in a small Louisiana town—he could tell that everybody recognized the actor. “Heads would turn,” Saulnier said. “Bartenders, valets, gamers, whoever it was, everyone was turning their heads. I was able to bear witness to the birth of a star, in real time. And that was amazing.”
The filmmaker was shocked by just how many people had watched the movie already—129 million views, to be exact, topping Netflix’s big-budget, Eddie Murphy-led sequel “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.” It became the third most-watched film on Netflix from July to December last year.

Charlie Hunnam will always be known for his role as Jackson ‘Jax’ Teller in Sons of Anarchy, but many years ago, he also famously passed on a role in a major franchise that’s returned to streaming. Hunnam initially accepted the role of Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades of Grey movies, but he ended up dropping out and being replaced by Jamie Dornan, who starred opposite Dakota Johnson in the films. All three Fifty Shades movies recently hit Peacock at the start of this month, and they’re now available to watch for anyone with a standard subscription to the streamer. The Fifty Shades of Grey movies collectively earned over $1.3 billion at the global box office, but their earnings declined with each film after starting with $570 million and finishing with $372 million.

Mere days after Netflix released the first teaser for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, the film just got a much more complete look. Netflix has finally released the first official trailer for the Wake Up Dead Man, the third installment in Rian Johnson’s whodunnit franchise, as Tudum festivities are fully underway. The trailer features the return of Benoit Blanc, the well-articulated and brilliant detective portrayed by Daniel Craig. Craig’s Blanc is the only character to appear in all three Knives Out films. Netflix has also announced that Knives Out 3 will be released on the streamer on December 12, with a small theatrical release the week before its debut on the platform. It seems Craig’s wishes for a full theatrical release for Wake Up Dead Man were not fruitful.

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, one of Star Wars' best movies, turns 20 years old today, and I couldn't agree more with Star Warsactor John Boyega's opinions on the movie. Although there were complaints about the Star Wars prequel trilogy when the movies were first released (and many continue to be circulated to this day), plenty of nostalgia has grown over the years, especially with the generation who were kids when the prequels were released. The fanfare around Revenge of the Sith's 20th anniversary theatrical re-release was proof enough of that.
During Fan Expo Philadelphia, Finn actor John Boyega weighed in on this conversation, identifying Revenge of the Sith as his favorite movie among the three prequel movies. As shown in a video posted to TikTok by va.va.vera, in addition to this ranking, Boyega shared his perspective on Revenge of the Sith and its...

Actor John Boyega wants Disney to earn his return to Star Wars. The former Star Wars cast member hasn't explicitly ruled out a Star Wars return as his sequel trilogy character Finn, but he's not blindly jumping back into the Millennium Falcon either.
Boyega addressed potential Star Wars comeback conditions, making it clear that Disney needs to show him the respect Finn deserves. The actor spoke toScreen Rant during a panel at Fan Expo Philadelphia about reprising the character, but was sure to explain his three-movie contract with Disney has already been fulfilled. That means that not only is his Star Wars contract completed, but now Disney will need to actively pursue him for a Star Wars comeback as Finn. "'C'mon, yeah, of course. That would be fun to do. John Boyega has confirmed he's open to returning to Star Wars, and has even hinted he's already spoken to Daisy Ridley about the prospect. John Boyega's Finn is generally seen as one character failed by the sequel trilogy, after posters for Star Wars: The Force Awakens appeared to be setting Finn up as a Jedi. The franchise is finally exploring the aftermath of the sequels, though, with Daisy Ridley herself returning. She's hinted she'd love to see Boyega step back into the galaxy too.
Speaking at Fan Expo Philadelphia, in a panel hosted by ScreenRant's Joe Deckelmeier, Boyega confirmed he's open to returning. In fact, he even hinted he's already spoken to Ridley; directly asked whether he'd done so, he simply answered, "Maybe." Deckelmeier openly asked Boyega whether he has unfinished business, to which he gave a delightful response:

There are a lot of controversial choices made throughout the "Star Wars" sequel trilogy, but one that fans bicker about to this day is the Reylo romance. In "Star Wars: Episode IX -- The Rise of Skywalker," Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) finally share a kiss, seemingly clarifying that the growing connection between them throughout "Episode VIII -- The Last Jedi" was indeed a romantic one. Anti-Reylo fans were pissed, but luckily(?) Kylo died not long after, so the whole debate was mostly rendered moot. Still, some fans think it was in poor taste to depict a romance between our hero and Kylo Ren, who is basically Space Hitler as far as this universe is concerned.

Star Wars is a vast franchise with hundreds of characters spread across various media, including movies, live-action shows, games, books, graphic novels, and animated series. With so many characters, determining the “worst” can be quite a challenge.
On platforms like Ranker, it can be difficult to pinpoint “the most hated” characters since the bottom 200 or so spots are often filled with minor characters who are not necessarily disliked but rather aren’t well-known enough to receive more votes. To narrow it down, we focused on the first 100 characters in the rankings and identified the lowest-ranking live-action characters from that group. Let’s find out who the least popular characters in the Star Wars universe are.

Shippers — fans who watch movies mostly to root for their favorite couple getting together — had a wild time with the Star Wars sequel trilogy. In The Force Awakens, the story seemed to be heading for an ending where Daisy Ridley's Rey and John Boyega's Finn would get together. But that never happened. Instead, Rey ended up in a strange quasi-romance with Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) a man who menaced and tortured her.
Boyega has been very critical about where the Star Wars sequel trilogy went, and he didn't hold back when talking about it on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. When a fan asked if he and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) would have approved of the relationship between Rey and Kylo, he responded with "No." It was a lighthearted moment, but he did seem to be trying to make a serious point as well.

When Chioma Ude founded the Africa International Film Festival in 2010, her mission was clear: Create a hub for the African filmmaking community that would connect new and existing African talent with the global film business while also, crucially, providing a place that would empower and train the next generation of the continent’s storytellers.
Already a prolific entrepreneur with a background in marketing and logistics, Ude was making a name for herself in the African entertainment space at the time. After doing a road show for the Nigeria Film and Videos Censors Board in London, she was brought aboard as a project manager for the Ion International Film festival, a global touring festival which was headed to Nigeria.
Her work impressed local government officials and the experience, says Ude, gave her the idea to launch a Lagos-based international film festival with a wider focus on the African continent.

Actor John Boyega recently openly criticized the romantic pairing of Rey and Kylo Ren, commonly referred to as “Reylo” by fans. In a candid interview, Boyega expressed his disapproval of the relationship, stating:
“[Kylo Ren] trying to kill you is not a part of the romance. Chasing him and saying, ‘We can become something powerful!’ I’m there like, ‘I wouldn’t tell my sisters to do that.’”
Boyega’s comments highlight the concern that many fans share over the portrayal of a relationship that, in his view, romanticizes toxic behavior. He believes that Rey’s character would have been better suited in a relationship with Finn, suggesting that their bond throughout the trilogy laid a more solid foundation for romance.

There was a time in the Star Wars universe where John Boyega's Finn and Daisy Ridley's Rey formed the backbone of the resistance against the Empire. While Finn's time might have now passed, Rey remains very much at the forefront of the struggle with the upcoming Star Wars movie, rumored to be titled Star Wars: New Jedi Order, reportedly the character's next outing. New Jedi Order is one of several upcoming projects within the franchise, and Boyega is excited by it, and what it means for Daisy and her place within the franchise.
"It made sense to expand the franchise in that way," Boyega reveals to Josh Horowitz on Happy Sad Confused. "I'm just looking forward, first of all to see if it's real, because we have had a few Star Wars announcements - you know, in development, they can't quite get it done. I'm just hoping that...

When we think of John Boyega, we immediately attach his name to one of the biggest franchises in the world, Star Wars. However, before Boyega became Finn, a galactic hero, the actor played Moses in the 2011 sci-fi horror Attack the Block. While he wasn't a valiant force-sensitive resistance fighter, Boyega's Moses helps defend his neighborhood from an alien threat. "A group of valiant teenagers ventures out to battle a savage alien incursion. With the invasive species jeopardizing their vicinity in Southern London, they fight to succeed in their mission," reads the official synopsis. In the aftermath of its premiere and despite its short theatrical run, the film's legacy has grown with a sequel, Attack the Block 2, confirmed and in pre-production.
However, years have passed without Attack the Block 2 making it to screens. Speaking on Happy Sad Confused with Josh Horowitz, Boyega explained why the sequel has been delayed for so long.
