Sarah B. Downey is a critically-acclaimed director, producer, and writer in Hollywood, having received over a hundred awards throughout her career. Originally from Las Vegas, Nevada, Sarah has always been a devout Roman-Catholic. She now resides in Los Angeles, California with a list directorial credits, starting in 2012. With a genius IQ, she is drawn to studying art, specifically decoding historical Renaissance art. She enjoys sitting down with ivy league-educated historians of the art world and having in-depth discussions about specific pieces. Artwork tells a visual story that has always intrigued her. When she first came to Hollywood, she owned a music label, where she was a tour manager and later became a ghostwriter for musicians. She found that stories could also be told through music. Sarah wrote her first movie, based on the idea that it was simply an elongated song. Combining her love for art (the visual) and her affinity with music (the auditory), Sarah navigates her collection of films as if she is orchestrating a ballet. She is able to tell true criminal stories because of her proximity to an array of friends with colorful pasts. On any given day, she can walk through The Mob Museum in Vegas and see the men who influenced her ability to never personally or professionally entertain doing business with a liar. She pursues stories that highlight the underdog and focus on criminal-based content. She seeks out material that other directors wouldn't dare touch.
Sarah began studying under Jack Waltzer, who trained the likes of Marlon Brando, Dustin Hoffman, Robert Duvall, and many other A-list actors. She walked into Jack Waltzer's class curious about film, but walked out sure of one thing: that she wanted to be a film director. Waltzer's technique made her fall in love with the actor-director relationship, which is an integral part of her directing style today. To Sarah's knowledge, there isn't another female director in Hollywood with this credential in their arsenal. In addition to directing, producing, and writing, she is a former executive of Women in Film, an emeritus member of the board for the Alliance of Women Directors, and a member of Sundance Alumni.
Sarah has always declined representation, despite receiving offers from many prestigious Hollywood talent agencies and management companies. She negotiates and closes every deal for herself. Most of the partnerships and deals she has gone through with, have relied on previously-established personal connections. Sarah keeps her life extremely private because of the discretion required to be loyal to her personal and professional relationships.
Sarah isn't usually addressed by her first name. Writing under the pen name "Writer MacGyver", Sarah felt that if she used a pseudonym, she would receive authentic feedback for her writing from movie industry confidants and financiers. In the music industry, Sarah is known as "Downz" and by lovers she is known as "Downey". After a ten-year career of directing criminal-focused content, she saw it befitting to coin herself "Director Lecter", as an homage to all the great men who have supported her, as Hannibal did Clarice.
