Based on the hit Edinburgh festival play, When Women Wee, Powder Room is set to hit cinemas on our shores later this year.
Young director Mj Delaney makes her feature directorial debut with the British comedy, led by the ever-brilliant Sheridan Smith, who has very much been deservedly on the rise in recent years.
And after a long wait, the first teaser trailer has finally landed online.
A ribald, rowdy exposé of what goes on behind the closed doors of the ladies’ toilets, Powder Room is outrageously funny. Pulling back the curtain on a world that remains a mystery to men and is delightfully familiar to women, it has broad appeal and is surprisingly full of heart. Featuring a wide array of weird and wonderful characters, from novice teenaged party girls, to seasoned ravers this is a no-holds-barred look at women’s friendships, rivalries and romances in all their infinite variety.

It’s quite strange watching Victim after recently viewing GBH because that was a British film that escaped the trappings of being a normal “urban” drama that is almost drowning the industry right now. You expect Victim to be very “urban”, giving an impression it’s about a life of crime, gangs and a typical almost cliché view of “life in London” which is almost threatening to be over used, but surprisingly it’s a film that pulls you into the security of thinking yes; it’s just another one of those typical “urban” films then blows that misinterpretation away.
When Tia a country-girl (meaning rich, lives in a big house in the country) moves to...

Anyone with a camera and decent desktop editing software can make a movie these days. And they are. Problem is, when they realize their footage looks like amateur porn they decide to make a "found footage" horror film. This is not a stab at The Tapes, the latest of the genre coming from the UK at all, just an observation as to why I think we're getting a lot of found footage films recently.
Synopsis:
In the winter of 2008, three teenage friends, Nathan (Oceng), Gemma (Sparkes) and her boyfriend Dan (Maza), visited Whitstable, Kent to shoot location footage for Gemmas showreel and her Big Brother TV show audition video. While filming in one of the areas many pubs, they briefly encountered a local farmer and were later informed by the barmaid that the man was a harmless swinger who regularly hosted sex parties at his nearby farm.

Working under the proviso that the “found footage” sub genre hasn’t run out of steam quite yet, there’s what looks to be another good little British Indy horror on the way...titled...The Tapes. Written by Scott Bates and co-directed by Bates and Lee Alliston, The Tapes stars Jason Maza, Arnold Oceng, Natasha Sparkes and Nick Nevern. Synopsis: In the winter of 2008, three teenage friends, Nathan (Oceng), Gemma (Sparkes) and her boyfriend Dan (Maza), visited Whitstable, Kent to shoot location footage for Gemma’s showreel and her Big Brother TV show audition video. While filming in one of the area’s many pubs, they briefly encountered a local farmer and were later informed by the barmaid that the man was a harmless ‘swinger’ who regularly hosted sex parties at his nearby farm. Seeing an opportunity to make some easy money by breaking into the farm to secretly film...

Written by Scott Bates and co-directed by Bates and Lee Alliston, The Tapes is a brand new independent British horror film starring Jason Maza (Demons Never Die; Anuvahood; Fish Tank), Arnold Oceng (Demons Never Die; 4.3.2.1.; Adulthood; Grange Hill), Natasha Sparkes (Burlesque Fairytales) and Nick Nevern (Terry; Adulthood).
A gritty, urban teen horror that takes its “found footage” cue from the likes of The Blair Witch Project and Rec, The Tapes adds a rare and chilling sense of realism to the proceedings thanks to utterly convincing performances from its excellent young cast and fine location work that suggests the horror really could happen here.
