Captain America: Brave New World is the next exciting chapter in the MCU, set to hit theaters on February 14, 2025, as part of Phase 5.

This marks Sam Wilson’s first solo adventure as Captain America and will feature Harrison Ford as Thaddeus Ross, who transforms into the Red Hulk.

The story follows Sam as he faces an international crisis after Ross becomes President of the United States, forcing him to uncover and stop the true masterminds behind the chaos.

Currently at Gold Derby, the FX historical epic leads three top categories in our Golden Globe predictions: Best Drama Series, Best Drama Actor for Hiroyuki Sanada, and Best Drama Actress for Anna Sawai. Guy Maddin didn’t know he was even on Cate Blanchett‘s radar until he saw her pick his film “My Winnipeg” out of the Criterion Closet back in 2022.

“It was a manipulative move. It was a cry for help!” Blanchett joked to IndieWire (and her peers) on the rooftop of the Jw Marriott on the Cannes Croisette back in May when their debut collaboration, “Rumours,” first premiered. She was joined on that day by Maddin and his co-directors, Evan and Galen Johnson, who’ve been chugging away with the singularly absurdist Canadian auteur on short films since 2015 and the feature “The Forbidden Room” in 2016. Their latest, “Rumours,” is a satirical slice of weirdness about seven nimwit world leaders who gather at a fictional G7 conference to draft a vaguely reassuring statement about an unnamed international crisis. Captain America: Brave New World was supposed to be released this year, but like many movies, it got caught up in the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strikes that lasted for several months in 2023.

Shōgun created by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks, is based on the 1975 novel of the same name by James Clavell. The series stars Hiroyuki Sanada, Cosmo Jarvis, Anna Sawai, Tadanobu, Takehiro Hira, and others. One thing to love about Shōgun is its authenticity as it features a mostly Japanese cast and Japanese language dialogue.

The story follows the journeys of two men: John Blackthorne, an English sailor who is known as a risk-taker, and Lord Toranaga, a member of the five Council of Five Elders ruling Japan.

FX’s and Hulu’s Shōgun, which is based on James Clavell’s 1975 novel of the same name, became a huge series. The FX drama extended its record for most Emmys won by a series in a single year at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards by picking up four more wins, bringing its total to a staggering 18. “Shōgun” already made history last weekend at the Creative Arts Emmys when it collected 14 awards, easily surpassing the previous record for a drama series set in 2015 and 2019 by “Game of Thrones,” when it won 12. The HBO limited series “John Adams” took home 13 Emmys in 2008 and held first place for the TV show — comedy, drama or limited series — with the biggest haul…until “Shōgun” breezed onto the scene.

During the main ceremony, “Shōgun” picked up several top awards, though not nearly as many or as quickly and steadily as some had predicted. After a slow start, it won Emmys for drama series, lead drama actress for Anna Sawai, lead drama...

The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards just aired on ABC, and things went about as expected. In other words, the excellent historical drama Shōgun won Best Drama Series; the caustic slice-of-life series The Bear won Best Comedy Series, since I guess it's a little more like a comedy than Shōgun; and the autobiographical stalker drama Baby Reindeer won Best Limited or Anthology Series.

Those three were the big winners of the night, with them each taking home four awards. Jeremy Allen White won Best Actor In A Comedy Series as expected, and his costar Ebon Moss-Bachrach won Best Supporting Actor. On the drama side, Hiroyuki Sanada won Best Actor and Anna Sawai won Best Actress; she was the one I was really invested in. She was magnificent as Mariko and if she hadn't won I would have been forced to write a strongly worded letter to whoever votes in these things.

“The Bear” cleaned up at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards, just not in the final category as so many experts predicted. And “Shōgun” proved more vulnerable than expected, not winning a single Emmy until two hours and 20 minutes into the show.

Billy Crudup Beats Tadanobu Asano and Takehiro Hira from “Shōgun”

Yes, Crudup won this category in 2020 for “The Morning Show,” but that was in the pre-“Shōgun” times. And considering Crudup was up against two other “Morning Show” cast members, Mark Duplass and Jon Hamm, it seemed likely that that voters would split the vote among the three of them, opening up a potential path to victory for Tadanobu Asano from “Shōgun” — or his cast mate Takehiro Hira. In the end, voters more likely split the “Shōgun” vote, clearing the way for Crudup’s second win.

Anna Sawai made history after winning the Emmy for best drama actress for Shogun during Sunday night’s 2024 Emmys.

With her first Emmy win, Sawai became the first actress of Asian descent to win in the lead actress in a drama series category at the Emmys.

Sawai was nominated alongside Jennifer Aniston (The Morning Show), Carrie Coon (The Gilded Age), Maya Erskine (Mr. and Mrs. Smith), Imelda Staunton (The Crown) and Reese Witherspoon (The Morning Show).

When taking the stage, a visibly emotional Sawai quipped, “I was crying before my name was announced. I’m a mess today.”

She began her speech by thanking the Academy for nominating her alongside people she “grew up watching and love.” She went on to thank the FX team for “believing in our story” as well as co-creators Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo for giving her “the role of a lifetime” as Lady Mariko.

History was made at the 2024 Emmy Awards with one show becoming the most-awarded series in a single season!

Television’s biggest night was held on Sunday (September 15) at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, though many awards were also handed out last weekend at the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony.

The FX series Shogun, which is streaming on Hulu, has won more awards for one single season of television than any other show in history. The series picked up 18 total wins for its first season, including Outstanding Drama Series and lead acting awards for Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai.

The star of FX’s historical epic Shōgun just made some history of her own.

Anna Sawai won the Emmy for best lead actress in a drama series at Sunday’s ceremony, making her the first Japanese actress to win an Emmy. She was in tears as she accepted the award, but she admitted in her speech: “I was crying before my name was announced. I’m a mess today.” She thanked the Shōgun cast and crew and her mother, offering a tribute to “the women who expect nothing and continue to be an example for everyone.”

“Shōgun” star Anna Sawai made history as the first Asian performer to win Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday. Sawai was honored for her captivating leading performance as Lady Toda Mariko in the acclaimed FX series.

Her historic Emmy win comes six years after Sandra Oh became the first Asian performer to be nominated in the lead drama actress category in 2018 for BBC America’s “Killing Eve.” Oh was nominated three more times for the same role, but never won.

Sawai wasn’t the only Asian actress hoping to make a stamp on history. Maya Erskine was also nominated in Sawai’s category for her lead role in Prime Video’s “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.”

Sawai, who was born in New Zealand to Japanese parents and is mainly based in Japan, was considered the frontrunner to win her category, which had heavy competition.

Hiroyuki Sanada became the second Asian performer to win Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his role in FX’s “Shōgun” at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday. The prolific Japanese actor was recognized for his portrayal of Lord Yoshii Toranaga in the first season of the drama series.

With the acting Emmy win — Sanada’s first of his six decade–long career — he follows in the footsteps of Lee Jung-jae’s history-making accomplishment in 2022 when Lee became the first Asian actor to win the lead drama actor Emmy for Netflix’s non-English series “Squid Game.”

Nominated alongside Sanada were Gary Oldman (“Slow Horses”), Donald Glover (“Mr. & Mrs. Smith”), Dominic West (“The Crown”), Idris Elba (“Hijack”) and Walton Goggins (“Fallout”).

Lead cast members Anna Sawai and Hiroyuki Sanada walked the red carpet at the 2024 Emmy Awards on Sunday (September 15) at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

Also in attendance were co-stars Cosmo Jarvis, Takehiro Hira, Tadanobu Asano, Nestor Carbonell, Tommy Bastow, Moeka Hoshi, and Hiroto Kanai.

During the Primetime show, Shogun is up for Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Hiroyki, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Anna, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Tadanobu and Takehiro, Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series, and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series.

It’s television’s biggest night, and it’s posed to be a record-breaking one if contenders like “Shōgun” and “The Bear” continue expected sweeps.

The way of things was signaled at the 2024 Creative Arts Emmys September 7 and 8 when “Shōgun” broke records grabbing 14 trophies, sweeping every category except the main title theme and original score. “Shōgun” took casting, cinematography, period costumes, editing, period/fantasy production design, period/fantasy hairstyling, main title design, non-prosthetic period/fantasy/sci-fi makeup, prosthetic makeup, sound editing, sound mixing, special visual effects, and stunt performance, and broke a record previously held by “Game of Thrones.”

Tonight, the FX drama is nominated for Best Drama series, among a slew of acting nominations where it looks to continue its stunning run.

On the comedy side, defending champ “The Bear,” also FX, will take on the third season of Max’s “Hacks,” among other contenders like “Abbott Elementary,” and...

“Shōgun” has gone from critical darling to Emmys juggernaut, but plenty may not have taken the dive into this period Japanese world just yet. The long-in-the-works show takes place in 1600 Japan and ostensibly follows a marooned Englishman who finds himself caught in a growing civil war amongst Japanese power players, but the rich story unfolds in surprising ways. Hiroyuki Sanada leads the cast as Lord Yoshii Toranaga and also serves as producer, shepherding the project to ensure historical and cultural accuracy throughout. The result is one of the most thrilling, emotional and engrossing shows of the year.

Where is “Shōgun” streaming?

“Shōgun” is an FX original series but it aired on both FX and Hulu, and all 10 episodes of the first season are currently streaming on Hulu. You’ll also find it on Disney+ through the Hulu integrated app.

TV’s biggest night is back for a second time this year, with the 76th Annual Emmy Awards back to their regularly-scheduled September ceremony. The impact of 2023’s Hollywood strikes is still rippling through the industry — including through the 75th Emmys, which took place earlier this year, in January — but the 2023-2024 Emmy nominees delivered another excellent year of television.

Despite the back-to-back ceremonies, the Emmys eligibility period holds strong; this ceremony will honor TV shows that premiered between June 2023 and May 2024. That includes pre-strike premieres like “The Bear” Season 2 and spring 2024 hits like “Hacks” Season 3. This was the first year without a lot of usual suspects in the Emmy race, such as “Succession,” “Ted Lasso,” “Barry,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” other favorites like “The Gilded Age,” “The Bear,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” and “The Crown” are still in the running.

This season, the Emmy Awards celebrates its 76th anniversary. What began as a modest ceremony with five awards at the Hollywood Athletic Club has evolved into television’s biggest night, celebrating excellence throughout the industry. In the age of “peak TV” with close to 600 original scripted series, the nominations recognize the importance of the writers, performers and all those who worked on television programs in the past year.

Here’s one of the more bizarre teaser trailers we’ve seen in a while, kicking off the promotional campaign for Rumours, an upcoming political horror comedy that is set to release in October. That places the film’s launch just before the US presidential elections although whether the film is going to satirise that particular political showdown, is as yet unclear.
