The Easterseals Disability Film Challenge has partnered with Film Independent to award 12 disabled filmmakers with grants to help them develop their short films into episodic series or feature films.
Grant recipients will have access to workshops, one-on-one mentorship and networking opportunities with industry leaders through the Film Independent grantee program. The grants were made possible by the Adobe Foundation.

Expanding a hugely popular franchise, AMC Networks is launching a new channel on Twitch, The Walking Dead Universe, in partnership with the popular Amazon-owned live-streaming service.
AMC said Thursday it will produce live original programming with fans able interact via Twitch, which started as a gaming platform but has expanded into all kinds of live streaming content with a strong social media component. TWDUniverse will start with around 12 hours of original content a week.
“As the storytelling and characters that span The Walking Dead Universe continue to grow, so do the innovative ways we reach and engage with fans – both old and new – across social media and popular new platforms like Twitch,” said David Beck, AMC Networks’ head of programming strategy and business operations. “Sunday nights on Twitch are audience-first and fan-centric, and we are thrilled at this opportunity to build something new for passionate fans of The Walking Dead Universe.

AMC Networks Entertainment Group has tapped industry veteran Dan McDermott, most recently head of the Lionsgate and BBC Studios scripted TV partnership, as president of original programming and co-president of AMC Studios. Last year, we shared the Kickstarter campaign for Spring Street, a series set in the world of classical music. Spring Street creator and star David Beck said that his show would be a genre-blending ride filled with a diverse cast, and we can now see how he has followed through on that promise. Spring Street is here, and it is an eye-catching, complex show driven by its patient cinematography and round characters.
In Spring Street, Beck (who is the founder of New York-based nonprofit organization The Great Griffon) portrays Christopher, a somewhat cranky piano teacher whose life changes dramatically when his grandmother dies, his pregnant sister shows up at his door, and he gains a mysterious new student. Over its nine episodes, Spring Street slowly unfolds its characters while playing them against one another with carefully-written dialogue.
In the premiere, we meet Christopher and see him at work:

"Rising to [our] challenges is important, as is the need for mainstream entertainment that features three dimensional Lgbtq characters, women, and minorities."
