There’s a new sequel to the 1997 slasher I Know What You Did Last Summer (watch it Here) and its 1998 follow-up I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (watch that one Here) coming our way from director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge) – and while Jennifer Love Hewitt, who played heroine Julie James in the first two films, and Freddie Prinze Jr., who was Julie’s boyfriend Ray Bronson in those films, are both back for this sequel, they are not the leads this time around. That doesn’t mean that fans aren’t eager to see their characters again anyway, and Robinson has taken to social media to tease the return of Julie James. Robinson shared an image that shows the character has received a piece of mail in the new film – and the handwriting on the envelope is reminiscent of the notes Julie was receiving from a hook-wielding killer nearly thirty years ago.

While the duo have finally been confirmed to be coming back, Freddie Prinze Jr. has some surprising insight about Julie and Ray's return in the I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel. After moving away from a Mike Flanagan-helmed remake, development began on a direct sequel to the 1998 sequel with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson directing on a script she co-wrote with Sam Lansky, from a story she developed with Leah McKendrick. The new Last Summer cast is set to be led by Madelyn Cline, with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Prinze Jr. confirmed separately in September and December 2024.
Now, during a recent interview with Scale Talk Podcast with David Miniatures, Prinze Jr. was asked about his upcoming return for the I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel. In addition to reaffirming he will be playing Ray again for the film, Prinze Jr. also confirmed that neither he nor...

Sony Pictures has announced that cameras are now officially rolling on the I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel, and we have a first behind-the-scenes image featuring a familiar-looking hook.
Ben Willis, aka The Fisherman, was the seemingly unkillable villain of the original trilogy. Believed to be a normal man who set out to take revenge on the group of teens who left him for dead in the first movie, he survived all manner of carnage in the two sequels with zero explanation.
Whether this will turn out to be Willis or a copycat killer remains to be seen.
The studio has also confirmed that both Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. are set to reprise their respective roles as Julie James and Ray Bronson, but there's no mention of Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Original I Know What You Did Last Summer stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. now look set to reprise their respective roles as Julie James and Ray Bronson for the upcoming legacy sequel, and co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar might just be joining them.
The Buffy The Vampire Slayer star recently reminded an interviewer that her return was highly unlikely since her character, beauty queen Helen Shivers, was killed off in the first movie, but fans are now speculating that she might be set to reprise her role after all thanks to the following photo Gellar shared to Instagram.
While it's entirely possible Gellar has a role in the movie (and not necessarily the late miss Shivers), it's far from the only explanation for her presence on set. Gellar is married to Prinze Jr., and is also close friends with director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.

Ever since audiences—at least according to myth—ran screaming from the premiere screening of Auguste and Louis Lumière’s 1895 short black-and-white silent documentary Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat, the histories of filmgoing and horror have been inextricably intertwined. Through the decades—and subsequent crazes for color and sound, stereoscopy and anamorphosis—since that train threatened to barrel into the front row, there’s never been a time when audiences didn’t clamor for the palpating fingers of fear. Horror films remain perennially popular, despite periodic (and always exaggerated) rumors of their demise, even in the face of steadily declining ticket sales and desperately shifting models of distribution.
Into the new millennium, horror films have retained their power to shock and outrage by continuing to plumb our deepest primordial terrors, to incarnate our sickest, most socially unpalatable fantasies. They are, in what amounts to a particularly delicious irony,...

The I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot cast is coming together in a promising way. We just learned that Golden Globe Award nominee Billy Campbell has joined the cast in an undisclosed role. I wonder who he could be playing in the slasher.
Campbell joins a growing list of actors who have already been announced to be in the cast, such as Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Haur-King.
Freddie Prinze Jr. was announced recently to have officially joined the cast, reprising his role of Ray Bronson from the original film and its 1998 sequel. Jennifer Love Hewitt and Brandy Norwood are also in talks to return in their roles as Julie James and Karla Wilson.
Additionally, Bodies Bodies Bodies star Chase Sui Wonders is currently in discussions about joining the cast of the upcoming Sony movie. However, who she will be portraying in the film is unknown.

The slasher franchise I Know What You Did Last Summer is returning with a brand new legacy sequel next year, with Freddie Prinze Jr. confirmed to reprise his role from the original movies and Jennifer Love Hewitt in talks to return as well. One star of the 1997 slasher movie who won’t be back? Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played Helen Shivers.
Sarah Michelle Gellar’s character was memorably butchered in I Know What You Did Last Summer, but it’s not like we haven’t seen previously dead characters return to life in the horror genre. The actress confirms in a new chat with People, however, that she won’t be back.

Sarah Michelle Gellar is making it clear she won’t return to the I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel film because her character is dead.
With a sequel to the slasher film in the works, many fans speculated if Gellar would reprise her role of beauty queen Helen Shivers.
“I am dead,” Gellar told People about the fate her character faced in the 1997 film.
However, Gellar’s husband, Freddie Prinze Jr., will reprise his role, and the Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum said she will be part of the film in an “unofficial” capacity.
“My best friend [Jennifer Kaytin Robinson] is directing it, so we joke that I have an unofficial job, which is I am continuity,” Gellar told the publication. “So I’m always the one telling her, ‘Well, that would happen, or that wouldn’t happen with those characters,’ so I do have kind of an unofficial job title.

Freddie Prinze Jr is set to reprise his role as Ray in the new I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel.
I Know What You Did Last Summer is the next 90s horror franchise to make a flashy return, following in the footsteps of Scream, which was successfully rebooted with a sequel in 2022. We reported in July that the new I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot/sequel had found its cast, but there have been a few changes and an exciting new addition to the line-up.

Freddie Prinze Jr. has joined the cast of “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” a sequel to the 1997 horror film in which he starred opposite Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe.
Of the original cast members, Hewitt is in talks to reprise her role as well. Until her contract is finalized, Prinze is set to star alongside Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers and Jonah Haur-King. Camila Mendes was supposed to be in the film, but the “Riverdale” actor recently exited the project due to scheduling conflicts.
It’s unclear where the upcoming sequel will pick up, but the original “I Know What You Did Last Summer” follows four teens from a small seaside town stalked by a hook-wielding killer one year after covering up a car accident that was believed to be fatal. The film became a box office success with $125 million globally.

It seems as though both properties that originated from Kevin Williamson-written films are facing casting disarray. As Scream 7 was in development, it was intended to pick up with Scream VI stars Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega reprising their roles. Then, Barrera would come under scrutiny for controversial statements made on social media in response to the Isreal-Hamas conflict, and the production would let her go. Following that, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice star Jenna Ortega would also leave the sequel, citing her schedule becoming conflicted with other projects.
Now, the I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel is also seeing its star exit the project. According to Deadline, Riverdale actress Camila Mendes, who had signed on to star in the urban legend tale, could not make the production date on schedule due to her commitments on the upcoming big-budget franchise production of Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel’s Masters of the Universe reboot.

The ’90s movie franchise I Know What You Did Last Summer returns with a brand new legacy sequel in 2025, with director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson promising that the new movie will not be disregarding the events of ’98 sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. The sequel starred Brandy as Julie’s roommate Karla, who survived the events of the film.
Does that mean Brandy could be making a return in next year’s legacy sequel? Last we heard, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. were in negotiations to potentially star alongside a cast of fresh new faces, and it sounds like the door is open for Brandy’s return as well.
The singer and actress tells Et Online this week, “I’ve heard some things about it. So hopefully. I don’t know how [Karla] would come back. I haven’t thought about that yet. But I know that she should come back.

The 1998 sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer will be canon in the upcoming legacy sequel. This revelation means that Brandy could reprise her role as the surviving character Karla. Brandy has already indicated a willingness to return to the horror genre with 2024's The Front Room.
The canon status of the new I Know What You Did Last Summer movie means that another major character can return. The original 1997 slasher movie, written by Scream's Kevin Williamson and based on the Lois Duncan young adult novel of the same name, became a massive hit, grossing $125.3 million against its $17 million budget. Because of this, it spawned a franchise that now includes 1998's I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, 2006's I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, and 2021's unrelated Prime Video series reboot of the same name.

Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. may be in talks to return for the new sequel to I Know What You Did Last Summer, but another cast member of the ’90s slasher franchise is also game to return. Brandy, who played Karla Wilson in I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, told THR that while she wasn’t aware of the new sequel, she would like to come back.
“I didn’t know Sony was putting that together,” Brandy said. “That’s interesting! I need them to give me a call because I survived in that movie! I came out in the end, bloodied up, ready to go. I did not die in that film.” She added, “Jennifer, Freddie, hit me up.“
