The Great Gatsby musical, the highest grossing show in Off-Broadway theater Paper Mill Playhouse’s history, will be coming to Broadway this spring.
The musical adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s acclaimed novel will debut at The Broadway Theatre on April 25, the show’s lead producer Chunsoo Shin announced on Tuesday. Directed by Marc Bruni, Jeremy Jordan and Eva Noblezada are set to reprise their Off-Broadway roles as Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan, with previews beginning March 29.
“I am passionate about producing this show because it provides a modern audience with the true essence of idealism that is expressed eloquently in the novel and now on stage,” said Shin in a statement. “The Great Gatsby is a masterpiece that grows and changes as it’s experienced by each new generation, in every culture, and people — and yet, still maintains its uniqueness, with its fascinating characters that burst with vitality.

Sharon Van Etten has dug up a previously unreleased music video for her classic song, “Serpents,” off her 2012 album, Tramp, which will get a special anniversary reissue this year.
The video for “Serpents” was directed by Galazie 500’s Naomi Yang. It begins with Van Etten singing the song against a white brick wall, though the space is soon filled with an entrancing light display that adds a moody, slightly surreal tinge to the clip.
In a statement, Van Etten recalled why she chose not to release the “Serpents” clip back when it was made.

At the heart of every filmmaking decision is one question: Where is the audience in relationship to what is happening on screen? One of the most common approaches to answering this question is through subjectivity; by putting the viewer into a character’s point of view (often, quite literally), a filmmaker can shape how we emotionally absorb and viscerally react to the story unfolding on screen.
When it came time to tell the story in “Sound of Metal,” in which hardcore drummer Ruben (Riz Ahmed) experiences a sudden loss of hearing, writer/director Darius Marder reached for something different to orient how the audience understands what is happening inside Ruben’s own body.
“I wanted to use a language of perspective that I had never seen before,” said Marder. “When we think of point of view we think of visuals, not sound. Some films have thrown you into perspective through sound,...

Over the years, Annie Clark, who performs as St. Vincent, has presented herself as an 18th-century–dressed robot who dances on her tippytoes, a twee piano crooner, a sort of modern-day Louis Prima and, most recently, a guitar-eviscerating neon space alien. “I think it’s cool that some people hate it,” she said last year of people’s reactions to her recent run of gigs.
She’s an artist who is impossible to know from her performances alone. And that’s sort of the point: She fine-tunes her artistic visions...

Norah Jones links up with Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy on her breezy new song “Wintertime.”
Throughout the track, the singer croons about seeking solace in the colder months. “I know, I know I’m leaning, I’m leaning on you/ It’s hard, I know there isn’t much that you can do,” she observes over low-key piano. “I know, I know I’ll make it through/ In the wintertime, there’s a kind of light I only get from you.” Tweedy contributes twangy electric guitar leads, and his son...

St. Vincent performed her stripped-down rendition of “New York” during Jimmy Kimmel Live‘s Brooklyn residency Tuesday. The radical reworking of the track features on Annie Clark’s new album Masseducation, which reinterprets the songs off her 2017 LP Masseduction.
While the original take of “New York” boasted strings, multi-tracked vocals and a gentle beat, pianist Thomas Bartlett solely accompanied her for the elegant version she brought to Kimmel. Clark previously described Masseducation as “two dear friends playing songs together with the kind of secret understanding one can only get through...

When Annie Clark was mixing last year’s critically acclaimed Masseduction, she cut another version of the same album that she’s since dubbed MassEducation. The reworked LP, which will come out on October 12th, features only her on vocals and Thomas Bartlett on piano. She described the record in a statement as “two dear friends playing songs together with the kind of secret understanding one can only get through endless nights in New York City.”
She recorded the LP, which is available for pre-order, with Bartlett at studio in midtown Manhattan last August.
