Stephen King’s Time-Travel Sci-Fi Thriller Is So Good You’ll Want to Binge in a Single Day
Image
Stephen King has had many of his books turned into films and shows, but 11.22.63 stands out as one of the best. Instead of squeezing a long and detailed story into a two-hour movie, the book was made into an eight-episode miniseries.

That gave the story time to breathe and allowed it to capture the detail and tension that King is known for. The best part is, it can be entirely watched in mere 8 hours.

The series is based on King’s 2011 novel 11/22/63 and mixes science fiction with historical drama. It follows Jake Epping, a recently divorced English teacher from Maine, played by James Franco.

Jake’s life changes when his friend Al Templeton, played by Chris Cooper, shows him a way to travel back to 1960. Al convinces Jake to take on a huge mission — stop the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963.

Once Jake steps into the past,...

Stephen King’s Best Sci-Fi Miniseries Is So Good You Can Binge It in One Sitting In Less Than Half a Day
Image
Stephen King’s work has been adapted for the screen many times, but few adaptations have hit the sweet spot quite like 11.22.63. The limited series format turned out to be perfect for the story, letting it breathe without the heavy cuts that movies often have to make.

Based on King’s 2011 novel, the eight-part miniseries blends sci-fi, thriller, and drama, and it’s short enough to binge in less than a day. The best part is, it can be entirely watched in mere 8 hours.

The show follows Jake Epping, played by James Franco, a recently divorced English teacher from Lisbon, Maine. One day, his friend Al Templeton, played by Chris Cooper, reveals a secret, there’s a way to travel back in time to 1960. Al convinces Jake to take on a mission: stop the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963. But life in the past isn’t simple.

Image
Despite being around almost since the beginning of the streaming era of television, Hulu often gets lost in the shadow of its baby sibling Disney+. While the latter streamer has buzzy shows from Marvel Studios, the "Star Wars" universe, and the expanded Disney canon, Hulu is deprived of such buzz.

Viewers may be aware of some of Hulu's most popular originals -- "Only Murders in the Building" and "The Handmaid's Tale," to name a few. They may have come across "Paradise" (a new political thriller that might help revive the genre) or even the Academy Award-winning "Anora" on the platform as well. But buried underneath these familiar titles is a full library of underrated TV shows, begging to be rediscovered and enjoyed during your next binge-fest. So before you start another rewatch of "American Horror Story" or "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," take a look below to find the hidden gems in Hulu's back catalog.

Keanu Reeves' Dark Satire 'The Entertainment System Is Down' Takes Flight
Image
In some exciting news for Keanu Reeves fans, principal photography has commenced for Ruben Östlund's next film, The Entertainment System Is Down. Much like his previous work, Triangle of Sadness, the movie is set to be a dark satirical film with an impressive ensemble cast. The movie stars the John Wick actor alongside Kirsten Dunst, and Daniel Brühl, and filming is set to start in Budapest and last 70 days, concluding sometime around May (via Deadline). Given that the director's previous film was awarded the Palme d'Or in 2022, there is plenty of hype surrounding the movie.

The Entertainment System Is Down centers around passengers on a flight who are informed that, as the title implies, the in-flight entertainment system is no longer working. Now lacking any distractions over a long flight, the passengers are forced to confront boredom, and perhaps even some personal reflection, as the social dynamics of a...

Ruben Östlund’s The Entertainment System Is Down begins production
Ruben Östlund
Ruben Östlund’s The Entertainment System Is Down – a dark satire starring Kirsten Dunst, Keanu Reeves and Daniel Brühl – has now started filming.

Here’s a project that has sounded rather enticing, ever since it was first announced in April of last year. Ruben Östlund, the filmmaker behind Force Majeure and Triangle Of Sadness has assembled an exciting cast for what looks to be a story examining the darker impulses of human nature.

A24 is backing The Entertainment System Is Down, and the boutique studio is really backing Östlund in what we’re hoping retains the filmmaker’s arthouse sensibilities while also appealing to a broader audience. As well as footing the bill for an incredible ensemble of acting talent, A24 has also backed the purchase of a retired Boeing 747 for the film, which is presumably sitting on a studio backlot somewhere in Budapest as Östlund uses it to make his movie.

The Biggest Box Office Bombs of 2024
Image
Another year ends, but what doesn't change is the audience's expectation for good cinema. 2024 has been phenomenal in illuminating the big screen with fascinating stories, whether about the chaotic emotions of a young adult or the return of the familiar adamantium claws. However, despite a good story, an ensemble cast, and extraordinary direction, some movies fail to uplift their box office numbers. Many of the biggest box office bombs of this year included several high-profile movies with promising earning projections.

However, call it an act of fate or the viewers' high standards, several highly anticipated films like Argylle, Joker 2, and many others bit the dust miserably by registering embarrassing box office numbers. Despite featuring an all-star cast and having a talented director on the steering wheel, these 2024 movies disappointed the fans on all fronts.

Stephen King Knows What A 11.22.63 Sequel Series Would Look Like
Image
A few years before Stephen King published his first book, "Carrie," in 1974, he was struck by an idea for a historical novel. After calling this project "Split Track" in his head, King began working on it but soon realized that preliminary research required more time and dedication than he could spare at that moment. Although he abandoned the idea in favor of ideas that were easier to actualize, King would eventually return to this historical premise and tell a time-travel story that loops back to a particular date. This was his 2011 novel "11/22/63," wherein high school English teacher Jake Epping gets the opportunity to prevent the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, which took place on November 22, 1963. As with every time travel tale with consequences, the aftereffects of messing with history are not pretty.

Even a cursory glance at "11/22/63" makes King's initial anxieties about time period-focused research apparent, as his exploration...

You’d Be Surprised to Know the Difference Between Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth’s Salary in “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga”
Image
The Mad Max saga has been wreaking havoc among fans for quite some time now, so when it was time for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga to come out, it was expected to succeed as terrifically as nearly every other film in the series. But, starring Anya Taylor-Joy in the lead as the titular character, that was hardly what happened when the movie finally hit the theatres.

A post-apocalyptic action film helmed by George Miller, this fifth installment in the Mad Max franchise had quite the star-studded cast besides Taylor-Joy, including the likes of Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke, and Elsa Pataky, among others. Despite this, it barely made it through its box office run as it made $173.8 million globally on its $168 million budget (per The Numbers).

Billy the Kid is getting a proper ending! MGM+ series renewed for third and final season
Image
We come bearing bittersweet news, Billy the Kid fans! This outlaw's story is coming to an end with Billy the Kid season 3 being the final season. The good news it that the show got renewed at MGM+, and this outlaw's story will get a proper ending. What's sad of course though is that we're almost at the finish line.

Per a press release, the Western drama starring The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes actor Tom Blyth will premiere on the streaming service sometime in 2025. There will be a total of 8 episodes, just like previous seasons. An exact release date has not been shared yet. But that's ok, we can wait!

Courtesy: MGM

I'm sure it's going to be an epic ending in terms of production and story. Though if the series goes off the real-life figure and what happened to him, it's going to be a pretty sad end to this tale.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga Streaming Release Date Set for August 16 on Max
Image
Anya Taylor-Joy will square off against Chris Hemsworth on streaming before the summer ends. Yes, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is scheduled to start streaming a week from today, on Friday, August 16, and the action adventure will be available on Max. Taylor-Joys titular character and Hemsworths tyrannical Dr. Dementus faced off against one another back in May, but Furiosa surprisingly turned out to be one of the biggest financial disappointments to come out during the 2024 summer movie season at the box office.

With a reported production budget of $168 million (per Variety), and that doesnt include marketing and advertising costs, Furiosa struggled mightily both at home and overseas. Director George Millers latest big-screen installment set in the Wasteland only made $67.5 million domestically, according to Box Office Mojo. And while the film did fare far better internationally ($105.3 million), the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel only managed to amass a worldwide total of $172.8 million.

'We've Been Trying to Connect': Charlize Theron Addresses Furiosa and Anya Taylor-Joy
Image
Charlize Theron had an iconic role in 2015's Mad Max: Fury Road, where she portrayed Furiosa. The post-apocalyptic franchise received a prequel following the character this year, titled Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, with Anya Taylor-Joy taking over the younger titular character, and Charlize Theron just addressed the film.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at the party for her Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project, Charlize Theron confirmed that she has seen the film. For the prequel, director George Miller decided to cast a younger actress instead of asking Charlize Theron to come back to tell the origin story for Imperator Furiosa. Luckily, the original actress approved of Taylor-Joy's performance.

Charlize Theron is speaking out about her reaction to the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel, Furiosa: A Mad Max Story. Theron played Furiosa in Fury Road, where she joined Tom Hardy's Max Rockatansky in a road battle against Hugh Keays-Byrne's terrifying Immortan Joe. Despite Furiosa's overwhelmingly positive reviews, it disappointed at the box office with an overall take of only $172.8 million.

Furiosa Finds VOD Success After Underwhelming Theatrical Run
Image
Compared to its disappointing box office performance, George Millers latest Mad Max movie, Furiosa, has found success with its digital release. The prequel was officially released to buy or rent on digital platforms last June 25 by Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment, a month after it made its theatrical debut.

Per IndieWire, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga has been leading iTunes and Fandangos VOD charts for the past week, despite its high price point of $24.99. The post-apocalyptic action sci-fi movie has replaced John Krasinskis fantasy comedy If as the current leading movie for both charts. During Furiosas theatrical run, it failed to garner moviegoers attention as it only earned a worldwide gross of over $171 million against a reported budget of $168 million. Even though it had an underwhelming box office run, the film still received high praise from critics, with a Certified Fresh rating of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.

8 Recent Box Office Flops I Think Will Be Cult Classics In The Future
Image
Quality doesn't always equal box office success, as demonstrated by recent films like Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and Haunted Mansion. Films like Bros and Beau Is Afraid struggle at the box office due to limited Lgbtqia+ representation and avant-garde storytelling. Even acclaimed filmmakers like George Miller and Ari Aster face challenges with films like Three Thousand Years Of Longing and The Last Duel.

Not every film worthy of a fanbase does well at the box office, and I believe the last five years have been rife with films that are sure to gestate into cult classics given enough time. In the modern day and age, it seems as though the blockbuster movie is in a more precarious position than ever before. Even films with massive legacies to their names, like Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny or The Flash, have panned out as wince-inducing box office failures for their producers,...

Tom Hardy Offers Disheartening Update on Mad Max: The Wasteland
Image
Plans for a Mad Max sequel are uncertain after Furiosa's lukewarm box office reception. Hardy doubts it happening. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga explores the origin story of fearless Furiosa, set in a post-apocalyptic world. Despite doubts from Hardy about returning, George Miller still hopes to make Mad Max: The Wasteland.

Tom Hardy found himself leading a Hollywood hit as the new iteration of Max Rockatansky in 2015's Mad Max: Fury Road, and he has recently offered a disappointing update on his possible return to the Mad Max franchise. After Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga's lukewarm reception at the box office, plans for a sequel are still to be confirmed, and it seems that Hardy is not exactly holding out too much hope of it happening.

In Mad Max: Fury Road, Hardy gives life to "Mad" Max, a scavenger trying to survive the post-apocalyptic wasteland where Immortan Joe rules.

The Bikeriders Star Reflects on Losing Furiosa Role

Anya Taylor-Joy excelled with her performance as a younger Furiosa in the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel, taking over the role from Charlize Theron. However, before she was cast, Jodie Comer had been in consideration for the lead role in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

Comer can be seen in the new film The Bikeriders, coming to theaters on June 21. To promote the film, Comer was interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter. She was asked about the comments recently made by director George Miller revealing how he'd had preliminary talks with Comer about playing Furiosa in the Fury Road prequel. Tom Hardy Shares Update on Possible Mad Max Return After Furiosa
Image
Following the success of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, fans have wondered if the rumored sequel, Mad Max: The Wasteland, which focuses on Max Rockatansky, will follow. Tom Hardy, who played the character in 2015's Fury Road, does not think it's likely.

"I don't think that's happening," Hardy told Forbes asked about his future with the Mad Max franchise. The project getting the green light from the studio was largely dependent on the performance of Furiosa. Since the film only managed to bring in $32 million at the domestic box office during its four-day Memorial Day weekend run and $36.5 million from international markets, hopes for a sequel from director George Miller have been dashed.
