- She planned to study english and film in university and wanted to be a film director. But, once she took an introductory acting course in her first year she quickly caught the acting bug. In her third year she was accepted into the Honours Acting stream.
- She is very community focused, volunteering with numerous organizations like the YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg. She was nominated for the CBC's Future 40, which recognized individuals who worked for the health and success of their province.
- Mel Marginet grew up in a small town in southwestern Manitoba called Bruxelles. She attended elementary school in Bruxelles, where she was one of 5 classmates.
- Growing up in a small town, Mel excelled in sports. Her main focus was softball, and she played on the Central Region Hawks fastpitch team, competing in National Championships. She made the Manitoba High School All Start team in high school as a back catcher.
