‘The Amityville Haunting’ Takes the Franchise into the Found Footage Arena [The Amityville IP]
Image
Twice a month Joe Lipsett will dissect a new Amityville Horror film to explore how the “franchise” has evolved in increasingly ludicrous directions. This is “The Amityville IP.”

We’re into the thick of it now, aren’t we? Ten entries into the so-called Amityville franchise and it’s all cheap IP cash-grabs from here on out.

I’m hopeful that some of these films will lean into the utter ridiculousness that has been a hallmark of the best entries thus far, particularly given the inevitable decline in budget. Let’s not kid ourselves: many of the films from here on out are going to be dodgy, but that’s half the fun, right?

What’s exciting about this Amityville IP editorial series is examining how each film puts its own unique stamp on the same general premise. For The Amityville Haunting, the first new film in six years, that unique stamp is found footage.

Suspect in Homicide of Lyric Woods and Devin Clark Apparently Dropped Five Songs to Soundcloud After Murders
Image
The name of the 17-year-old suspect accused of killing 14-year-old Lyric Woods and 18-year-old Devin Clark was released Monday after attorneys for the teen failed to file an appeal to stop him from being tried as an adult (per ABC). Issiah Ross was indicted on two counts of first-degree murder.

Sheriff Charles Blackwood said at a press conference Monday that Ross fled North Carolina on Sept. 18., the day the two teens were found dead. On Oct. 5, Delaware’s Streets Task Force apprehended Ross and he was sent back to North Carolina,...

Suspect Detained in Double Murder of Teens Lyric Woods and Devin Clark
Image
After weeks of unease, a suspect has been detained in the double homicide of Lyric Woods, 14, and Devin Clark, 18, who were found murdered last month in North Carolina. The unnamed suspect is a juvenile, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, so their identity will not yet be released to the public.

Sheriff Charles Blackwood said in a statement: “We hope this apprehension provides some relief to the families and friends of Devin and Lyric, who have experienced an excruciating loss. Obviously, the capture of the suspect does not restore their loved one to them.

Ugly Americans: Comedy Central Series Officially Cancelled
With the last episode of Ugly Americans having aired over a year ago, many suspected that the Comedy Central series had been quietly cancelled. Now, the animated show's producers and creator have officially confirmed the show's demise. There won't be a third season but there's a chance the characters could continue in another form.

On the Ugly Americans Facebook page, creator Devin Clark noted, "Yes. Sadly. It’s official. Ugly Americans is not coming back any time soon. I’m sorry we can’t make more episodes for you guys. I want to thank all the Ugly fans for their support and for all the awesome fan art. Keep it up! Who knows? Maybe we can Kickstart something Ugly in the future. A movie? A graphic novel? The other show producers and I are working hard to find a new home for Mark, Randall, Callie, Twayne, Leonard, and Grimes (and...

Morning Meme: Kristin Chenoweth Gets "Hot In Cleveland," Bret Easton Ellis Preps Bisexual Full Frontal Screenplay, and Cat Deeley Teases a Celebrity "Sytycd" Audition
MTV has finally signed off on a reunion show for 2Gether. The surviving members of the "boy band" will produce their own show and MTV will then air it. I'm fascinated to see how seriously they take this.

I know this photo spread with the theme "Bros Blowin' Shotties" is about sharing a hit, but it looks so sexy and erotic.

Bret Easton Ellis is writing a screenplay for (straight) porn star James Deen to star in. It's meant to be a non-porn film, but Deen has to act and be full-frontal naked banging girls and guys." This could end up being so bad it's good.

While it's theoretically a good thing that Josh Gad, Rory O'Malley, Michael Potts and Andrew Rannells have extended their contracts with The Book of Mormon through 2013, I'm not sure how that squares with the news that Rannells was cast as the lead in Ryan Murphy's new family show.
