It’s been a hot minute since we heard an update about an upcoming remake of The Saint starring Regé-Jean Page. Still, Deadline is here to blow the dust off this project with word that Doug Liman is officially directing The Saint remake. In addition to his starring role, Page will executive produce with Lorenzo Dibonaventura, Brad Krevoy, and the late Robert Evans.

Plot details for The Saint remake remain a mystery. However, Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani are working on the script. The Saint is based on the 1920s book series that follows Simon Templar, also known as The Saint. Often described as a Robin Hood-like criminal and thief for hire, Simon can usually be found traveling the globe and looking for adventure. As I said, plot details on the new project are confidential at this time, though sources indicate that the team is working around the clock to reimagine the character.

Previously brought to life as a TV series starring a pre-Bond Roger Moore and 1997 film lead by Val Kilmer, Leslie Charteris' The Saint has been in development as a new big screen version for a while now, with Chris Pine starring and Dexter Fletcher directing. Paramount has signed “The Bourne Identity” filmmaker Doug Liman to direct the upcoming crime thriller “The Saint,” which will star Regé-Jean Page in a new imagining of the 1920s book series created by Leslie Charteris.

“The Saint” takes its name from the nickname of its protagonist, Simon Templar, a thief for hire who travels around the world serving as a modern day Robin Hood, stealing from the rich and protecting the powerless.

Charteris’ novels were adapted into a hit British 1960s TV series that became Roger Moore’s biggest claim to fame before he became James Bond. Paramount also adapted the books into a 1997 film starring Val Kilmer.

BBC drama “Informer,” which originally starred Paddy Considine, Bel Powley and Nabhaan Rizwan, is getting a German adaptation.

Production has begun in Hamburg, Germany, on “Informant,” an adaptation of the All3Media International scripted format, which was BAFTA-nominated. The BBC One show was executive produced by Sam Mendes, who produced via his production outfit Neal Street Productions.

The six-part German thriller is being produced by filmpool fiction (part of All3Media Deutschland) for Ndr, Ard Degeto, Arte and Nrk (Norway). The show is expected to debut in fall 2024.

Starring Jürgen Vogel (“Trust Me”), Elisa Schlott (“Das Boot”) and Ivar Wafaei (“Rheingold”), “Informant” tells the story of how the ‘war on terror’ and indications of an attack on the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg plunges people into a maelstrom of fear, prejudice and hysteria.

The cast also includes Gabriela Maria Schmeide, Bayan Layla, Claudia Michelsen, Sabrina Ceesay, Nico Holonics, Ali Reza Ahmadi and Majid Bakhtiari.

The now-completed feature directorial debut from French-American filmmaker Mathieu Bonzon, Outrage will be screening at the European Film Market in Berlin, where Film Mode Entertainment is handling global sales.

Nor was it easy for editors, Mike Sale and John Lee to turn hours of footage into 125 minutes worth of movie.

As is customary with comic-book movies, Black Adam contains plenty of references and cameos from the larger DC Universe, but one major cameo has pretty much been common knowledge for some time, which producer Hiram Garcia calls “frustrating.“

The Black Adam cameo we’re referring to is the return of Henry Cavill as Superman, something fans have been begging for. To be fair, Dwayne Johnson hasn’t exactly been great at keeping the cameo a secret on the road to the movie’s release, not so subtly referring to Henry Cavill’s return in many interviews, but Hiram Garcia told /Film that it was frustrating that so many fans had the reveal spoiled for them ahead of time.

Now that Dwayne Johnson's DC debut is playing in theaters, Black Adam many reactions are roasting the movie's apparent bad writing. The DC Extended Universe film primarily provides an origin story for the titular antihero, once a slave from Khandaq who was granted powers by the ancient wizard Shazam and imprisoned thousands of years for abusing those powers. Once Black Adam is released into the modern world, his barbaric behavior quickly catches the attention of the Justice Society of America who attempt to reform him. The hierarchy of power in the DC universe is about to change, or so says The Rock. That's because "Black Adam" is finally hitting theaters after being stuck in development for years (and years). All due respect to whatever unique and illustrious history Black Adam may have developed since his DC Comics debut in 1945, but the lifeless spectacle that director Jaume Collet-Serra — who made some nifty thrillers before “Jungle Cruise” reduced him to the John Ford of Rawson Marshall Thurbers — has cobbled together for the character’s big screen origin story is so exhaustingly derivative of other superhero movies that the ancient Egyptian antihero might as well not have any history at all.

The long-term effects of this movie have yet to be revealed, but as an introduction to one of DC's biggest anti-heroes, it gets the job done. Devoted fans of the Dceu will find much to enjoy here, while those more worn out by superhero antics might not be won over by Black Adam's action-packed nature. Though suffering from repetitive plot beats and thin characters, Black Adam is powered by Johnson's performance and its promise of an exciting future.

It’s been a long wait — nearly a decade, in fact — since Dwayne Johnson first signed on to become an integral part of the DC universe. He’s recently turned 50 (not that he looks it). But now, at last, he’s launched a big-league entry in the cinematic superpowers world with Black Adam.

This is a gigantic, 200 million sci-fi extravaganza that likely features a higher percentage of screen time devoted strictly to massive action and effects over dialogue than any of its comics-derived predecessors. Given the quality of the dialogue here, this is all to the good, but it certainly won’t deter the devoted fanboys who have been waiting a long time for this one. The large intended audience will no doubt gobble up this extravagantly boisterous other-worldly space circus, which certainly deserves to be seen on the big screen. There it will play for 45 days before beginning to stream on HBO Max.

It’s kind of a cheat, casting someone as massive as Dwayne Johnson to play a DC superhero — or antihero, in the case of “Black Adam,” an action-packed, adolescent-skewing stand-alone that presents the swole Samoan star as a nearly invincible global threat. Black Adam is basically an A-bomb in human form, whose emergence from a 5,000-year lockdown calls for emergency intervention by the Justice Society of America, or Jsa, which dispatches four glorified benchwarmers to contain the situation: Hawkman, Atom Smasher, Cyclone and Doctor Fate.

Ex-wrestler The Rock is built on an altogether different scale from everyone else in the DC universe (the next-closest hulk would be “Aquaman” star Jason Momoa), suggesting by body type alone that he could beat anyone “from this planet.” Wink wink. Although we’ve been seeing more R-rated comicbook movies in recent years, it’s definitely not the norm for mainstream Marvel or DC fare. Keeping bloodshed and deaths to a minimum fits with the superhero code, but it doesn’t exactly suit a character like Black Adam (Dwayne Johnson). Dwayne Johnson has confirmed that he “absolutely” intends to make a Black Adam-Superman crossover film – going so far as to say that this prospect was “the whole point” of making his forthcoming DC antihero standalone pic.

Johnson’s comments came in a recent interview with CinemaBlend, in which he reiterated that “a new era in the DC Universe” is about to kick off. “What I meant by that was introducing a brand new character. It’s not a sequel, not an existing IP. It was…you know, Black Adam!” he said. “Two years ago the world had no idea who he was. We did, but not, you know, the rest of the mass out there. Introducing the Jsa [Justice Society of America], introducing that new era of the DC universe.”

The Black Adam poster proclaims that the time for heroes is over, but I’ll be curious to see just how dark they’ll take the character without making him a straight-up villain. Dwayne Johnson just made it official on his social media: New Line’s Black Adam is heading to San Diego Comic-Con. There was a question whether Warner Bros’ DC feature side would be at the fanboy confab; now they are.

The Black Adam panel is set for Saturday, July 23 in Hall H. “6,000 Strong,” Johnson wrote Thursday.

DC Comics fans are getting a closer look at Dwayne Johnson’s “Black Adam” in a new, action-packed trailer.

“Black Adam” stars Johnson as the powerful anti-hero and sworn nemesis of Shazam, who was played by Zachary Levi in a 2019 origin movie and in the upcoming sequel, “Shazam: Fury of the Gods,” coming next year. After over a decade in development, “Black Adam” will be released on July 29.

Johnson was originally supposed to enter the DC universe as Black Adam in 2019’s “Shazam;” however, his role was scrapped when the spinoff for his character was greenlit in 2017.

DC’s “Wonder Twins” are getting the feature film treatment, with a new live-action movie in the works for HBO Max.

Warner Bros has hired Adam Sztykiel, who worked on the upcoming “Black Adam,” starring Dwayne Johnson, to write and direct the movie, based on the DC characters. Temple Hill’s Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey will produce the project.

“Wonder Twins” follows a pair of alien siblings named Zan and Jayna who hail from the planet Exxor, and have a pet space monkey named Gleek.
