When Will The Hiatus Be Over?
The procedural series is taking a brief break, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the next installment of the beloved CBS show.
With President’s Day falling on Monday, February 17, it marks the start of a three-day holiday weekend, meaning there won’t be a fresh episode airing that evening. But don’t fret—viewers can still enjoy some screen time with a rerun.
Instead of a new episode, the network will showcase Season 22, Episode 2, titled “Foreign Bodies.” In this gripping episode, the synopsis reveals: “As Vance gears up to host diplomatic discussions with Venezuela, the team is summoned to probe...

Replacing Mark Harmon as Gibbs on NCIS? Yeah, that’s like trying to swap out Batman and hoping no one notices. But apparently, the showrunners didn’t lose a wink of sleep over it; they knew exactly who could fill those legendary shoes.

And honestly, that’s a bold move when you’re dealing with a fanbase that treats Gibbs like a sacred entity. But when you find the right fit, you just know. So, who was this chosen one?

"NCIS" has been a regular fixture on TV screens since 2003, and several actors have come and gone in that time. Of course, some of the departures have been surprising, with franchise mainstay Mark Harmon leaving "NCIS" because he wanted an easier schedule and more time to focus on other projects. Elsewhere, Pauley Perrette vowed to never act again after parting ways with the series due to on-set bullying. As for Michael Weatherly -- well, he was tired of playing NCIS Senior Field Agent Anthony Dinozzo after 15 seasons.
"It came about at the right time. I was burnt out by 'NCIS' and I was ready for a new challenge," Weatherly explained during the Television Critics Association's summer press tour in 2016 (as covered by The Hollywood Reporter). "Sometimes change is as good as a rest." The actor went on to cite the grueling 22-episode seasons as a contributing factor to his fatigue,...

Do you hear that? It’s the sound of hearts breaking all over as fans of NCIS: Origins’ Mike Franks watch their favorite character lose what matters to him most in this world.
The show is no stranger to some truly devastating drama, and it never takes a week off. It’s about time the series gets the recognition it deserves for how much it gives audiences.
When NCIS: Origins first started, many viewers were skeptical of what it could add to already established stories. Well, now we know it plays the perfect balancing act on the tightrope of drama and comedy.
(Erik Voake/CBS)
As the series continues into its freshman season, the cases, characters, and all-around setting feel more real with every episode. “Monsoon” was a rollercoaster of tears and laughs, sometimes simultaneously.

In hindsight, it's impossible to imagine anyone but Mark Harmon in the role of gruff "NCIS" boss Leroy Jethro Gibbs. It wasn't exactly a career-reigniting role for the actor, who had already built a legacy on shows like "St. Elsewhere" and "Chicago Hope" before joining the CBS military police procedural's inaugural 2003 season. However, it soon became apparent that Gibbs would be his defining role. Harmon embodied the character in a way that made him the unquestionable centerpiece of the ensemble cast throughout his 19 seasons with the show. He left "NCIS" in 2021, but Gibbs perseveres: In 2024, CBS rolled out the prequel show "NCIS: Origins," with Austin Stowell playing young Gibbs while Harmon narrates, "Young Sheldon"-style.
Knowing Harmon's importance to the "NCIS" franchise, it may be surprising to find out that the people behind the show didn't call his agent the second they conceived the character of Gibbs. In 2023, the makers...

NCIS: Origins has slowly been introducing us to various members of the Nis personnel at Camp Pendleton. This latest episode told us about Kowalski, who ran the Evidence room and kept things neat and orderly. But when a break in occurred, it became too much and he resigned. Who destroyed the evidence room?
Kowalski and Gibbs had gotten to work early when they discovered the Evidence room was trashed. Despite the team working hard to figure out who was responsible, Kowalski felt like his life’s work had been taken from him and he ran when it got difficult.
What we learned was that Kowalksi had been a prisoner of war in North Korea and he barely had anything to hold onto. He had hopes he would make something of himself, but felt it was destroyed in one night.

Prior to headlining NCIS as Agent Leroy Jethro Gibb, Mark Harmon played a tough homicide cop in 1988’s The Presidio, starring Sir Sean Connery. Even though it wasn’t a major hit, the movie did garner acclaim for its beautifully choreographed action sequences, which were pretty intense for Harmon, who didn’t resort to taping his ankles for the stunt sequences.

Industry veteran Mark Harmon was a part of the popular CBS show NCIS for years. As such, his involvement in the series’ construction stands out from the rest. However, it wasn’t just Harmon who was dedicated to his role, it turns out the NCIS crew, too, was mighty appreciative of him.

Even though the Monday, Jan. 27 episode of NCIS: Origins focused more on Mike Franks than Gibbs, we still got a glimpse into what may eventually come for the agent. Plus, we also know since Christmas has already passed, that 1992 is the year that Gibbs met Diane, his second wife. Will there be love in the air for Gibbs before she comes along?
In the episode, Randy mentioned to Gibbs that his wife had a friend named Amanda if he was interested in going on a double date. However, it was clear from the look on Gibbs’s face that her wasn’t remotely ready to date anyone. But at the same time, we also know he will eventually meet Diane Sterling, whom he married soon after, although we don’t know specifics of how long they were together.

Uh-oh, it sounds like Gibbs (Austin Stowell) and Lala’s (Mariel Molino) investigation in the next NCIS: Origins episode is going to lead them down a potentially dangerous path. In the February 3 episode, “Touchstones,” when the evidence room is broken into and significant cash goes missing, the team looks into a possible connection to a recent case. It offers some insight into Kowalski (Michael Harney), who manages the room. Gibbs and Lala head to see Kenneth “Black Kenny” Simmons as they look into a possible connection to a recent case. Kenny’s on the phone when they show up at his door, and Lala calls out that she can hear him. “Franks and I have a deal. Y’all never come to my crib,” he protests. NCIS: Origins returned with a midseason winter premiere that gave us some insights into Mike Franks’ background. It was our first look into who Franks was before he became an NCIS agent and it made for a fun episode to watch, despite the heartbreaking case the team was looking into.
Normally we get to see the show focus on Austin Stowell’s Agent Gibbs, but it was Kyle Schmid’s time to shine. When Mike’s well-worn favorite boots broke, it looked like it was going to be a lost cause and he wouldn’t be able to wear them anymore.
We learned he received the boots from his older brother, Mason. They lived with his mother on a ranch and it seemed as though they were very close. Throughout the episode, the audience learned that Mike was drafted and Mason was ready to figure out how to keep his brother from going overseas.

NCIS: Origins is the latest entrant into the NCIS world, but contrary to previous spinoffs, the show has a strong connection to the flagship series.
Watching it peel back layers into Gibbs’ past life has been fun, especially since it breaks away from the basic procedural format and enriches this beloved world.
NCIS: Origins is fun because viewers have sentimental value for Gibbs, filling the hole left by the character’s departure in the main series.
(Sonja Flemming/CBS)
It’s also refreshing to watch a show that is not set in the current times, where law enforcement must do good old-fashioned investigations by following the evidence.
Sure, modern luxuries like powerful computers and forensics would be helpful, but there is something about having a case board and examining how the clues tell a story.

I guess it’s true that the boots make the man, and NCIS: Origins has got one hell of a man in Mike Franks. Are we still sure Gibbs is the protagonist of this series?
It seems like the show is doing the smart thing and giving audiences what they want, and that’s more of fan-favorite Mike Franks. Can you blame us? The mustache alone makes the character iconic.
Still, as far as episodes go, this was probably the weakest one of NCIS: Origins. I’m not saying it was bad, but this one was light on the drama compared to earlier episodes.
(Sonja Flemming/CBS)
Also, what is the main plot of the season? Now that we’re well past Gibbs getting revenge for his murdered family, what’s the over-arching plot?
There is still half of NCIS: Origins Season 1 left with no general direction.

The premium cabler celebrated the upcoming premiere on Monday with our most extensive look at The White Lotus Season 3.
(HBO/Screenshot)
The official trailer picks up with countless new faces touching down in Thailand and settling into the lucrative White Lotus resort for what they think will give some time for reflection and relaxation.
If the first two seasons of The White Lotus are any indication, things will take a hard left turn.

Every character will be scrutinized as they come to terms with what’s holding them back in life.
Off the bat, Jason Isaacs is poised to have the most interesting storyline.

NCIS: Origins is returning to the television schedule and just in time for some exciting cast news. One new star, Caleb Foote, of the series has been made a series regular after being introduced to viewers when the prequel to the original NCIS premiered.
Foote was recurring in the show, but he has been a part of NCIS: Origins since the beginning.
Portraying NCIS Agent Bernard ‘Randy’ Randolf, Foote’s character is also one who has a connection to the young Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Austin Stowell). He had previously been the agent assigned to protect Gibbs’s wife and daughter when they were involved in the case against Pedro Hernandez.
Foote gets promoted in "Flight of Icarus" “All’s Not Lost” – Still grieving the loss of his wife and daughter, Gibbs helps the team work a case involving a missing girl. The moment that irrevocably changed Gibbs’ life is revealed,...

It’s a big job taking on a beloved character from a franchise churning out endless spinoffs for almost two decades. But that’s precisely what Austin Stowell did with CBS‘s NCIS: Origins.
The series has certainly had its fair share of bumps as it continues down its premiere season road. Viewers have had a lot of opinions about the choices made on the show, namely Austin Stowell’s casting.
Here’s the rub about NCIS: Origins, though, because for every one thing it gets wrong, there are ten other things the show gets right.
(Art Streiber/CBS)
Maybe Stowell isn’t a perfect physical match for Gibbs, but he is killing it with the heart and soul of the character.
Besides, even if he doesn’t look exactly like a younger Gibbs, he’s still damn handsome and easy on the eyes. I’m willing to overlook a...

NCIS: Origins may be centered around Gibbs (Austin Stowell) and telling the story of his life before what we saw on the mothership — the series begins on his first day at Nis — but it’s also telling us the backstory of another character franchise fans know well: Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid), then Gibbs’ boss. And the focus turns to Franks in the January 27 midseason return, with a pivotal part of his past involving his family revealed. “What we’re really excited about is that this is really a character-driven show,” co-showrunner Gina Lucita Monreal, who co-wrote this episode with Jennifer Corbett, tells TV Insider. “Yes, we have a crime every week, but it’s really about these people and how they relate to each other and themselves in the world. And so we were really excited to come to a point in Gibbs’ story where we could put that...

We’ve seen how dangerous the North Shore can be on Rescue: Hi-Surf, and the team looks ready for another action-filled day during Season 1 Episode 11.
The waves and the current can be a beast on the shore, and we’ll see Sonny and the team jump into the thick of things when things go wrong for a man who was out in the water.
In this clip exclusive to TV Fanatic, a broken femur has the team scrambling to stabilize a beachgoer, only to discover someone from his group has gone missing.
(Fox/Screenshot)
The action on Rescue: Hi-Surf Season 1 has been incredible, and the show does a great job of showing what it entails to be a lifeguard on those beaches.
Sure, there are standard rescues of those who drift a little too far out to sea or get tossed about by a wave and pulled down by the unrelenting current.

In this golden age of broadcast television, medical procedurals are a dime a dozen, and new ones are released every season.
So, leave it to CBS to revive the classic character Watson and give audiences something ironically refreshing.
It also doesn’t hurt that the network has given viewers the tall drink of water, Morris Chestnut.
(Colin Bentley/CBS)
Making it all the way to the end of the pilot episode certainly had its benefits.
However, despite numerous things that work for Waston, a few ends still need tightening if this show is to become a long-standing series.
Watson Rounds Out Its Cast with Some Truly Interesting, Albeit Odd, Character Choices (Colin Bentley/CBS)
The story itself seems pretty cut and dry. Holmes left Watson a bunch of money so the doctor could return to medicine. It’s all very straightforward, which is exactly what Sherlock Holmes is Not known for.

Growing up is challenging, especially for teenage girls. This aspect has not changed in 100 years, and it was likely more difficult back then.
When Calls the Heart Season 12 Episode 4 was one of the best installments. It highlighted Allie’s coming-of-age and why it was so important to her.
I’ve commented previously that this season has returned us to the best part of the series, focusing on integrating the children into core storylines and keeping romances at the forefront.

“Dancing Teens” did that beautifully because viewers have watched Allie grow up since When Calls the Heart Season 6, and they rooted for her 17th birthday party to be a success.
It also demonstrated that fathers have difficulty letting their daughters mature no matter what period.

When CBS’ NCIS: Origins resumes its freshman run this Monday at 10/9, as Narrator Gibbs might put it, “This is the story of… Michael” — as in Nis Special Agent Mike Franks.
“It is,” Kyle Schmid concurred at the top of an in-depth, Friday-night conversation with TVLine. “It is very much the beginning of jumping into the backstory of Mike Franks. And I think it’s a really important story to tell, because of the relationship between Mike and Gibbs (played by Austin Stowell).

CBS seemed to pull a vanishing act with a potential NCIS blockbuster spinoff. The concept was centered on a character who shared some intense on-screen history with Mark Harmon’s iconic Leroy Jethro Gibbs. It sounded like a no-brainer hit, yet the network stayed silent.

Along with the late David McCallum, Mark Harmon is arguably the actor who's most commonly associated with the "NCIS" franchise. His character, Leroy Jethro Gibbs, debuted on "Jag" before gracing 19 seasons of "NCIS." As of this writing, Gibbs is also the only character to receive his own prequel series, which we'll cover in more detail later. In short, though, Harmon is a poster child for this franchise, and that's why fans were shocked when he parted ways with the hit procedural in 2021.
Harmon was in his 70s when he left "NCIS," but he didn't quit because he wanted to retire and enjoy the fruits of his labor. In fact, the Gibbs star stayed on board as an executive producer and kept busy working on some passion projects. He then returned to the "NCIS" universe in a more substantial capacity, even...

As NCIS fans know, Leroy Jethro Gibbs has a set of rules. And they’re very much part of his story in the prequel. “My wife believed we all should have a code to live by, a set of rules,” Mark Harmon says in a voiceover on NCIS: Origins. “And I believed in her. So for years, I wrote my own rules down on napkins, scraps of paper. I followed all of them to the letter.” And so when Austin Stowell, who plays the young Gibbs, came into TV Insider’s office during the first half of the season, we had to find out whether some of those rules more so apply to him or the version of the character he’s playing. Rule 3, “Don’t believe what you’re told, double check”? “This is so introspective. I feel like I’m in a therapy session all of a sudden,...

NCIS has been one of the biggest success stories in TV history, but like the countless other long-running shows still on the air, it’s showing its age.
The CBS procedural has slumped to around 5.2 million viewers and a 0.36 rating among adults 18-49 this season.
That number means it ranks seventh out of the 16 scripted series the network has scheduled this season.
(Photo: Robert Voets/CBS)
With a week of DVR factored in, NCIS Season 22’s numbers rise to 7.6 million viewers and a 0.52 rating, but the show is off over 20% compared to last year.
That means that there’s a genuine possibility that CBS could be considering putting the mothership out to pasture.
Twenty-two seasons is a milestone few shows ever reach, but it wouldn’t have been possible without devoted fans watching for so long.

NCIS: Origins has been a valiant effort to reinvent the NCIS franchise through the lens of a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs, but CBS’ poor handling of NCIS: Hawai’i could help explain the latest spinoff’s lower-than-expected performance in the ratings.
There was much enthusiasm for NCIS: Origins because it would bring Gibbs back to the franchise years after Mark Harmon walked away.
There’s no denying that Gibbs was the draw of NCIS for many years, and while the show has bounced back creatively in his absence, he’s still a missing piece of the puzzle.

There are so many pivotal elements that go into nailing a successful show, and one of those is having likable characters. Luckily, NCIS: Origins has plenty to work with in Mike Franks.
Don’t get me wrong, because I am the unofficial leader of the “Mary Jo Fan Club,” but Mike Franks is something else.
Since the start of NCIS: Origins, many viewers have found themselves drawn to Kyle Schmid’s iteration of the Nis leader, and we can’t exactly blame them.

The character has been a staple of the franchise’s flagship series, NCIS, since its inception. So, his presence in a prequel series was heavily expected and very much appreciated.
However, there’s no way anyone could have known the amount of talent Schmid would bring to the character, let alone the unexpected, well, sex appeal.

After 15 years, CBS is able to make Leroy Jethro Gibbs' most badass rescue scene in NCIS so much better. Mark Harmon was the face of the long-running procedural for almost 2 decades. Prior to NCIS, Gibbs already had an McRt team in Jag, which underwent some changes when it was spun off into a separate series. There were a few times throughout his time with the agency that Gibbs wanted to quit. That said, he always found himself coming back, partly because of his commitment to the job and partly because of the people he worked with.
Gibbs was a beloved entity in NCIS, although he had his own quirks. He never locked his front door and he spent much of his spare time building boats in his garage. Notoriously quiet and private, so much of his past was unknown to his co-workers. Gibbs is different from Alden Parker who is...

The Cobra Kai cast comes from broad backgrounds. On the one hand, one of the main actors is Ralph Macchio, who plays an adult version of the classic Karate Kid character Daniel Larusso. William Zabka also reprises his role as Johnny Lawrence, bringing back another character from earlier in the Karate Kid franchise. Including these familiar faces makes Cobra Kai seem more connected to the original franchise, and draws in a potentially wider audience of those familiar with the older characters.
At the same time, Cobra Kai's cast also includes younger members alongside the aging stars. This includes actors such as Xolo Maridueña, Jacob Bertrand, Mary Mouser, and Peyton List. List, now 26 years old, has been in the industry since she was a child actor. She played lead character Emma Ross in the Disney Channel TV series Jessie, which started when she was only 13 years old. NCIS didn’t completely part ways with Mark Harmon after he left the series. Harmon would be a consistent presence on the show in the prequel NCIS: Origins, where he serves as one of the series’ producers. The veteran actor is also the voice of the show, narrating the series. But Origins‘ current star, Austin Stowell, sometimes finds himself reading Harmon’s narration lines as well. Even though he doesn’t have to.

NCIS found a loophole that would have Harmon return to the franchise without disrupting his or his character’s retirement from the show. According to Harmon himself, he was asked by the showrunners to provide voiceover work.
“I don’t know if it was clear initially, how that was going to take place,” Harmon told Variety. “Then the question was,...

The character of Tobias Fornell (played by Joe Spano) was part of the very first episode of NCIS, but without a history with any of the team then. That was retconned as Spano kept appearing, with Fornell and Mark Harmon‘s Gibbs ending up going way back. And so the prequel, NCIS: Origins, has a rich history with which to play with Austin Stowell‘s Gibbs and the young Fornell (Lucas Dixon), who has now been introduced. (It’s a relationship Stowell wants to explore.) Dixon appeared in Episode 6 when Franks (Kyle Schmid) and Wheeler (Patrick Fischler) met with an FBI agent for intel on a case. That agent called over “Tobias” to share what he’d found, which the young man did while snacking on tacos, much to Franks’ annoyance. He also rubbed Franks the wrong way for not thinking of the obvious fact that just because their person...
