Prolific author R.L. Stine scared a generation of children into loving the horror genre with his “Goosebumps” book series. In the years since he released his first young adult novel in the early 1990s and became a staple of Scholastic Book Fairs, that initial audience has grown to have kids of their own to share the spooky stories with. And not only has the franchise expanded to include an impressive collection of thrilling literary tales, but there are also films and TV shows that are bringing the brand to all-new audiences.
In late 2023, Rob Letterman and Nicholas Stoller brought their version of “Goosebumps” to life on Disney+ and Hulu. The series starring Justin Long and an excellent ensemble of young stars modernized fan-favorite stories like “Night of the Living Dummy,” “The Haunted Mask,” and “Welcome to Horrorland” by targeting a slightly older audience than the original books and not shying...

Following a thrilling debut starring Justin Long, Chris Geere, and an excellent ensemble of young talent including Zack Morris, Isa Briones, Miles McKenna, Ana Yi Puig, and Will Price, Disney+ and Hulu are bringing Rob Letterman and Nicholas Stoller’s Goosebumps back for a whole new chapter. This time around, as if the start of a new and uncertain year wasn’t spooky enough, the second season of the serialized anthology series based on the works of R.L. Stine will be known as “Goosebumps: The Vanishing.”
The next installment follows siblings Cece and Devin Brewer as they head to Gravesend, Brooklyn to spend the summer with their dad (played by the legendary David Schwimmer). But they soon discover a threat in their own home that triggers mysterious events that pull the twins and their friends into the inexplicable case of four missing teens from 1994.

In the early 1990s, the programming wizards at NBC realized they might be leaving advertising dollars on the table by not providing adolescents a Saturday morning entertainment bridge from cartoons to live-action sitcoms that reflected, in that garish sitcom way, their middle to high school lives. The only serious counter-programming threat in these hours was "Yo, MTV Raps!," so for kids who were more into bubblegum pop than hard-hitting rhymes, there was a demand not being met. And thus the Tnbc block was born.
The linchpin of the Tnbc block early in its heyday was "Saved by the Bell." What began as a spinoff of "Good Morning, Miss Bliss" -- which started on NBC before moving to The Disney Channel -- became a Saturday morning mainstay for both kids looking to do a whole lot of nothing on their morning off from school and hungover adults who knew better but...

The hit early '90s high school show Saved by the Bell was a Saturday morning staple for many millennials growing up, and the actors of the series were close in age to their characters. Saved by the Bell followed a ragtag group of six memorable students: the troublemaker Zack Morris (Mark-Paul Gosselaar), all-American girl Kelly Kapowski (Tiffani Thiessen), jock A.C. Slater (Mario Lopez), fashionista Lisa Turtle (Lark Voorhies), oddball Samuel "Screech" Powers (Dustin Diamond), and straight-a student Jessie Spano (Elizabeth Berkley). Saved by the Bell ran from August 1989 to May 1993 as a part of NBC's Tnbc lineup.
Saved by the Bell was so popular that it spawned two movies, two spinoffs, and got the revival treatment in 2019, keeping the series' title, though the Peacock show was canceled after its second season. The tricky thing about Saved by the Bell is that no distinct timeline is given, except...

At a time in history when people had access to more TV than they could ever watch, it was easy for characters to blend together or get lost entirely, especially if they had a rusty filing system.
Angry TV characters have a spot of honor at the front of our memory. It’s hard to forget characters who impact your emotions.
Whether it’s sadness, intense joy, or burning rage, the best TV characters hit you in the feels.
(NBC/Lori Allen)
We’ve picked 17 angry TV characters that we can’t help but remember for their grumpiness.
And for fun, I’m analyzing why most of us can relate to the reasons they’re angry. Let’s Hulk out.

Tucked away in the mountainous backroads of rural Washington lies the sleepy town of Jericho Ridge. At the local police station, Deputy Tabby Temple is gearing up for her overnight shift despite a busted ankle slowing her down. As the senior officer left on duty, Tabby had to juggle responding to calls, watching the front desk, and keeping an eye on the intoxicated offender locked away in the holding cell. Little does she know that the long night ahead will test her limits in ways she never expected.
When Tabby’s colleagues start disappearing while out on patrol, things take a dangerous turn. A suspicious repairman at the station may not be who he claims, and soon Tabby finds herself cut off and under siege, right where she thought she was safest. Outnumbered and injured, she’s the last line of defense between the town and whatever threat is closing in.

The Saved by the Bell reboot received criticism for its character development, friendships, and tone-deaf jokes. Specific issues included Zack's misogynistic behavior, A.C. Slater's lack of growth, and Kelly's reduced role as Zack's "hot wife." The show's attempt to be relevant with jokes about sensitive topics, such as Selena Gomez's kidney transplant, was not well-received
Saved by the Bell was hugely popular during its original run, but there were several things about the 2020 reboot that made no sense. Saved by the Bell ended in 1993, but the franchise was revived for a TV spinoff and two movies: Hawaiian Style, The College Years, and Wedding in Las Vegas, respectively. While there were plenty of harsh realities of Saved by the Bell, it was generally praised for how it tackled life lessons in the backdrop of Bayside High School.
The 2020 revival, however, lacked a lot of the charm the original was known for.

Saved By The Bell Tiffani Thiessen Shares Tragic Death
Fans grew up watching Tiffani Thiessen as Kelly Kapowski on Saved by the Bell, immediately falling in love with her. She was a good girl who stole the hearts of all of the boys at Bayside. However, she ended up with Zack Morris (Mark-Paul Gosselaar). They graduated from high school and the show was turned into a spinoff, The College Years where Kelly joined them. Though it was short-lived, it was clear Kelly and Zack were destined and that spawned a movie where they tied the knot. She moved on to Beverly Hills, 90210, playing bad girl Valerie Malone,...

Television shows seem well-organized and choreographed. Yet, not everything about them always goes according to plan.
For example, an incidental character sometimes steals a scene and creates memorable television history.
Then, there are the characters who take things a step further by stealing scenes repeatedly until they become the stars themselves.
Particular characters, such as Dr. Gregory House on House, are often created to be standouts. Yet, occasionally, those main protagonists are entirely overshadowed.
In rare instances, characters who were supposed to be incidental became regulars and took over entire shows.
The Fonz on Happy Days (1974-1984)
Happy Days underwent several changes, including the recasting and eventual disappearance of Chuck Cunningham's character, but Arthur (The Fonz) Fonzarelli's addition most dramatically altered the show's trajectory.
Initially, Happy Days focused on the Cunningham family, especially teenager Richie (Ron Howard). The Fonz (Henry Winkler) was a side character. However, the motorcycle-riding, leather jacket-wearing greaser soon took over.

Nikki Amuka-Bird gives a powerful performance as a gritty deputy defending her remote sheriff’s office from armed invaders
There’s an old-timey charm about this, a (mostly) one-location action movie in the tradition of Rio Bravo, or its sort-of remake Assault on Precinct 13. Partly it’s because of the remote mountainous setting in an unnamed state, the log cabin sheriff’s office, the trucks, twangy accents and mentions of second amendment nuts; and partly because of the core device of having a heroic figure – in this case, Deputy Tabby Temple (Nikki Amuka-Bird) – defending the fort against armed invaders. But the joke’s on us because nearly the whole thing was shot in Kosovo and most of the cast is British, as is writer-director Will Gilbey, who is making his feature directorial debut after a long apprenticeship as an editor, writer and second-unit dogsbody on the distinctly estuary-accented Rise of the Footsoldier...

David Schwimmer joins season 2 cast of Disney+ Goosebumps as single father Anthony. Season 2 of Goosebumps will feature a new set of characters who didn't appear in season 1. Anthony and his teenage twins will be part of the core cast of the new season.

The second season of Goosebumps at Disney+ has cast David Schwimmer in a lead role.

Following Schwimmer’s casting, Disney+ announced that Ana Ortiz (Ugly Betty, Love Victor), Sam McCarthy (Dead to Me), Jayden Bartels (Side Hustle), Elijah Cooper (That Girl Lay Lay), Galilea La Salvia (Party Down) and Francesca Noel have also joined the series.
The season two logline reads, “Teenage siblings discover a threat stirring, triggering a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery. As they delve into the unknown, the duo find themselves entangled in the chilling tale of four teenagers who mysteriously vanished in 1994.”

Mark-Paul Gosselaar is unlikely to return as Paul in "Will Trent" season 2 due to scheduling conflicts. Gosselaar's character, Paul, shares a complicated past with Will, adding depth to the protagonist's storyline. The live-action TV series based on the Goosebumps books written by R.L. Stine that was released through the Disney+ and Hulu streaming services last October (read our review Here) drew inspiration from five of Stine’s Goosebumps stories. We’re going to have the chance to see more Stine stories brought to life, as Variety reports that Goosebumps season 2 has officially been given the greenlight – but the show is taking the anthology route, so we can expect a season that has “an entirely new cast and setting based on Stine’s iconic Scholastic book series.” Season 2 will also consist of eight episodes, two shorter than the first season.
The first season of Goosebumps centered on a group of five high schoolers as they embark on a shadowy and twisted journey to investigate the tragic passing three decades earlier of a teen named Harold Biddle — while also unearthing dark secrets from their parents’ past.

“Audiences everywhere fell in love with the series’ chills, thrills, heart and humor, making it one of Disney Branded Television’s most-watched shows of last year,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television. “We can’t wait to dive deeper into the brilliant mind of R.L. Stine, and to collaborate once again with Sony Pictures Television, Scholastic Entertainment, and our fantastic creative team to bring an entirely new mystery to Disney+ for season two.

The 2023 Goosebumps reboot blends self-aware comedy and anthology-style storytelling, following a group of teens targeted by cursed items at a Halloween party. Each episode of the show is adapted from or titled after one of R.L. Stine's classic Goosebumps novels, with "Say Cheese and Die" and "The Haunted Mask" being two notable examples. Disney's "Goosebumps" series has been a surprising success, proving that beloved book-to-screen adaptations can work well in a miniseries format. The show's interwoven narrative and incorporation of familiar elements from the book series shows that Disney can handle complex adaptations with multiple characters and subplots. The success of "Goosebumps" gives hope that upcoming adaptations like "Percy Jackson" and "Eragon" will also be successful, as Disney learns from past movie adaptations and stays true to the source material.
The surprising success of Goosebumps is giving book-to-screen movie fans high hopes for Disney's next two novel adaptations, which have proved tricky for filmmakers in the past. The Goosebumps franchise itself has had a checkered adaptation history, with several movies and series to its name. Based on the beloved R.L. Stine book series, the 2023 series on Disney+ steers away from the anthology format of the original 1995 Goosebumps TV show, eschewing the '90s...

Today, Disney+ and Hulu unleashed a new take on R.L. Stine's beloved "Goosebumps" book series with a TV series adaptation developed by Rob Letterman (director of the 2015 "Goosebumps" movie) and Nicholas Stoller. This Goosebumps review contains no spoilers.
R. L. Stine’s famous teen horror book series Goosebumps was a big thing in the ‘90s. The books sold like candy (which meant over four million copies a month during their prime), and the author was dubbed the “Stephen King of children’s literature” — which is strange because I always thought that Stephen King was the Stephen King for kids — with a substantial influence on shaping the genre. Nevertheless, Stine’s novels were unsubtle and simple, usually devoid of gruesome violence and murder, appealing to younger readers by creating deliciously spooky atmospheres combined with campy humor. Naturally, they spawned multiple adaptations from video games to TV series to movies and more, varying in quality and success.
The latest one, created by Rob Letterman and Nicholas Stoller for Disney+ and Hulu, Goosebumps, unfortunately, falls in the line of weaker adaptations that entirely fail to...

Four episodes into Disney+ and Hulu’s Goosebumps, two characters take a beat to reflect on everything they’ve been through. “You know, our parents are sleeping together, there’s a ghost kind of haunting us, and I’m vomiting up worms, and now we’re having like a sleepover or something,” one says. “Yeah, throw in a long-lost sibling and a rich grandmother and you’ve got a soap opera on your hands,” the other cracks. And that’s without even getting into the clone army or the prophetic camera or the weird new teacher or decades-long mystery binding their families together.

Disney+ and Hulu's Goosebumps adaptation still manages to bring excitement to Stine's classic novels, reimagining them in an intriguing, spooky way. The first five episodes of Goosebumps focus on individual teens experiencing Biddle's tricks, with each story offering a twist on the original stories. The show strikes a balance between playful and spooky, providing genuine frights without sanitizing Stine's work, making it a great Halloween watch.

If you're a horror fan of a certain age, R.L. Stine's "Goosebumps" books and the subsequent Ytv television series were formative to your monster kid upbringing. Whether it was thirsting after the new cover illustrated by Tim Jacobus at the Scholastic Book Fair or rushing to get your homework done to be able to watch the newest episode on TV, "Goosebumps" was and continues to be a seminal gateway to the world of all things spooky and scary for young audiences. In 2015, a "Goosebumps" film by Rob Letterman was released featuring Jack Black as a fictionalized version of Stine whose monstrous musings manifest in our real world, and the film performed well enough at the box office to justify a Halloween-themed sequel three years later.

While it’s been more than a few years since Gosselaar’s day on the show, the character still follows him around today. When it comes to the popular TV shows of the past, plenty of fans who revisit their favorites have been in for a shock. Lots of “iconic” moments from shows of the 90s and early 00s have simply not aged well. Plots built around gendered double standards, stereotypes, and casual discrimination are cringe-worthy when viewed through modern eyes.
And it’s not just fans who grimace when they stumble across these out-of-place storylines. Even the stars who said the lines and played the parts are calling out their former series for helping to promote problematic ideas. That’s been the case for Saved By the Bell, a popular teen comedy that hasn’t exactly held up to current standards.

The addition of Tori Scott in the final season of Saved by the Bell was a result of contract issues with Kelly and Jessie's actors, causing a jarring shift in the dynamic of the show. The Tori episodes were confusing for viewers since they were placed in the middle of the series and didn't offer a proper explanation for Jessie and Kelly's disappearances. Despite only appearing in 10 episodes, Tori became a beloved character, especially among queer fans who saw her as a strong figure and their first crush. Leanna Creel, the actress who played Tori, has received a lot of feedback from fans over the years.
During Saved by the Bell's final season, Kelly and Jessie disappeared from the cast, with newcomer Tori Scott added, causing a bizarre Tori-Saved by the Bell issue. Premiering in August 1989, Saved the Bell was actually a rebirth of the short-lived Good Morning, Miss Bliss,...

Mark-Paul Gosselaar admitted at ’90s Con Tampa (via Entertainment Weekly) that he brought his work home with him in a negative way while filming the short-lived Fox drama series “Pitch.” The “Saved by the Bell” alum starred in the show as a veteran baseball player who butts heads with and befriends a young teammate who happens to be the first woman to play in the MLB. Gosselaar said after filming episodes he’d go home and his “really aggressive baseball player” would stay with him.
“That’s a role though, that I don’t make light of it, but I had to go therapy with my wife,” he revealed. “I’d come in through that front door and like my wife said in therapy sessions, ‘That’s not the guy I married.’ And you’re playing this guy and then the next day, you have to jump right into that.
