Showtime has released the first full trailer for the final season of “The Affair,” teasing the addition of Anna Paquin as a daughter seeking answers about her mother’s death.

Paquin joined the series for the fifth and final season next month, as Alison (former series regular Ruth Wilson) and Cole’s (Dominic West) now adult daughter Joanie Lockhart, who returns to find the truth about her mother’s apparent suicide — which was revealed last season to have been a murder.

When the original Lego Movie came out, you would’ve been forgiven for being cynical about its quality, but it ended up blowing minds with how hilarious and touching it was. Naturally, this means the sequel had some high expectations to live up to, so did it succeed?

The Lego Movie 2 takes place five years after the ending of the first movie. Duplo has completely taken over Bricksberg and it has been turned into a post-apocalyptic wasteland (which has clearly been inspired by Fury Road) so Emmet and his friends set out to reclaim their home. Emmet’s personal motivation is to be tougher like he thinks...

The truth of the matter cannot be ignored: The Lego Movie was an ad. In fact, with its contagious energy and surprising knack for joining big ideas with tiny details, it was about as good an ad as there is – you could say it was, like its hypnotizingly catchy anthem declared (over…and over…and over again), awesome.

Now, five years and two spinoffs later, we have The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, another advertisement, but unfortunately a far less distracting or clever one. It’s still a lot of fun. It’s just not as rousing or as inventive as its predecessor – which is certainly no easy task – even though it’s built with many of the same pieces. But that may be a part of the problem.

We all owe Kathleen Kennedy a huge thank you: When Chris Miller and Phil Lord were very famously fired from “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” they reinvested their time into “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse” and “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.” And it shows.

With “The Lego Movie 2,” the Oscar-nominated writer-producer duo are joined by director Mike Mitchell (“Trolls”) and animation director Trisha Gum to create a film that expands on the original’s premise, adding new worlds and characters to the growing Lego universe, while also crafting a story that is timely, inventive, hilarious and perfect for all ages.

The film picks up where the first left off, with Dad (Will Ferrell) and son Finn bonding and playing Lego together. Just as Dad informs Finn that his little sister Bianca (Brooklynn Prince) can play with them too, her Duplo creations arrive in Bricksburg to “destwoy” them, creating chaos...

Everything is mostly still awesome in The Lego Movie 2, but it might be time soon to put all the blocks back in storage.

Before The Lego Movie arrived in 2014, it seemed like the general feeling about the project was, “Gee, Hollywood must be in pretty sad shape to consider making a movie about Lego blocks, and by the way, how the hell are they gonna do that anyway?” Cut to the actual appearance of the movie, a winning blend of wildly imaginative world-building, gently stated yet genuinely moving themes, visual panache and a never-ending stream of smart, hilarious pop culture in-jokes, and the naysayers -- including this one -- were silenced and charmed by it all.

Everyone’s gotta grow up sometimes, even animated movie franchises. Kids’ movies, like the rest of us, find themselves in a difficult position these days: Ignore the sense of impending doom and pretend everything is, well… awesome? Or address the Cheeto-tinted elephant in the room, at least nominally? In “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part,” director Mike Mitchell, along with writers and producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller and a cadre of other scribes, decided to re-mix the first movie’s annoyingly catchy theme song, “Everything Is Awesome,” reminding kids and adults alike that sometimes everything isn’t awesome — and that’s okay. Unfortunately, that message of mediocrity applies more to the actual movie than anything else.

Looking back over the past decade, I can think of just two films that have done justice to the idea of play — the special way that creativity and imagination combine in the human brain to entertain us. The first was a lighthearted art film called “Faces Places” from forever-young director Agnès Varda in which she and graffiti artist Jr stage ephemeral installations throughout the French countryside. The other was “The Lego Movie,” a high-concept animated blockbuster that used the massively popular toy brand to explore — and celebrate — how people of all ages amuse themselves differently with the versatile construction sets.

Computer animated in a faux-stop-motion style by a team at Animal Logic, the 2014 film was revolutionary on multiple levels: technically and conceptually, as well as being one of the most innovative reinterpretations of high-value IP in Hollywood history. It treated the toys as toys — scratches and all — rather than presenting them as anthropomorphic plastic people.

Anna Paquin is joining “The Affair” for the Showtime series’ fifth and final season as the now-adult daughter of Alison (Ruth Wilson) and Cole (Joshua Jackson), in a major flashforward storyline that will take us decades into the future.

If you’re a fan of Steven Spielberg’s hit film “Ready Player One,” I get it. On the surface it’s hard to hate on the idea of a film packed with nostalgic callouts to old pop culture, plus a message of friendship, acceptance, and the value of real life versus escapism.

But that’s on the surface. Ultimately, the larger messages and themes are just backdrop to cool visuals and a ton of references, the references don’t really amount to anything except a list of things audiences probably like, and the film’s characters largely just define themselves mainly by liking that stuff.

But what if we told you there was a far superior version of “Ready Player One” that is all of that and much more, and also came out four years earlier? There is: it’s called “The Lego Movie.”

Both “Ready Player One” and “The Lego Movie” are epic adventures about playing in a fantasy world populated by characters owned largely by Warner Bros., dressed up in more meaningful messages to dilute the consumerism. And both films feature deliberately uninteresting protagonists who seem defined largely by their interests. But that’s where the similarities basically end.

The main character of “Ready Player One,” Wade (Tye Sheridan), proudly likes the right things — “Back to the Future,” “Buckaroo Banzai,” “Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” “The Shining” and so on. It’s part of his quest to win riches by solving a puzzle at the heart of the online virtual world Oasis, essentially an enormous online video game. But while Oasis is a place where you can supposedly “be anything,” the things that people most often end up being are the creations of other people, and owned by other people.

The mess of characters running around the Oasis — and there’s a lot of them — aren’t made interesting in some way by being used by the players who inhabit them. They’re just quick shots of things you’ve seen before. “The Iron Giant,” the DeLorean from “Back to The Future,” and so on.

But where liking the right stuff and knowing everything about it is a virtue (and Wade’s whole life) in “Ready Player One,” “The Lego Movie” uses that idea as a jumping off point. The film follows regular guy Emmet (voiced by Chris Pratt) who, like Wade, likes everything everyone else likes and defines himself by his conformity.

But unlike Wade, Emmet spends the movie figuring out his own identity. The entire plot of “The Lego Movie” is Emmet finding what makes him unique, an idea taken even further when it’s revealed the entire story is a game being played by Finn (Jadon Sand), a real-life kid. The main conflict of the movie — that Lego character President Business (Will Ferrell) wants to destroy the universe with the “Kragle,” a bottle of Krazy Glue — is actually a metaphor for Finn’s father wanting to freeze his Lego sets into permanent finished states. The film eventually has Finn’s father realize that his son is using the toys to create for himself, and to express his individuality.

Meanwhile, even as it makes use of a references to the Warner Bros. stable — DC superheroes, Gandalf from “The Lord of the Rings,” Dumbledore from “Harry Potter” — “The Lego Movie” goes a step further than “Ready Player One.”

Jake and the Neverland Pirates: Battle for the Book is one of the more intriguing efforts from the children’s show. It’s a solid enough Disney vehicle in general, and one that the kids love, but the story here incorporates Wendy, John, and Michael in a new adventure that is not only a nice homage to the original story/film, but also plays with the animation in a way that is admittedly lost on the target audience, but is a lot of fun.

Hook learns about Wendy’s book of stories, from which she reads to her brothers about all of Hook’s failures, and he decides he had better steal it to keep the stories from spreading.

It turns out there’s something magical about the book of stories, and the general connection to Neverland, and if the book gets destroyed, everyone will forget everything that happened.

If Showtime's "The Affair" actor Jake Siciliano feels a tiny sting every time he goes on set ... it's because the 16-year-old is making a grand less per episode than his 11-year-old co-star. We got a hold of Jake's contract and tweener Jadon Sand's (they play the Solloway bros). Jadon is set to pull in $11K/episode for the first season while elder statesman Jake only gets $10K. But if the show's a hit, Jake will start crushing Jadon.

A 15th poster is in for Warner Bros.' animated The Lego Movie featuring the Morgan Freeman-voiced Vitruvius character. This joins Emmet, Superman and Batman posters we added recently. In The Lego Movie, an ordinary Lego minifigure is mistakenly thought to be the extraordinary MasterBuilder and recruited into a quest to stop an evil Lego tyrant from gluing the universe together. Chris Pratt leads the cast which also includes the voices of Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Will Ferrell, Liam Neeson, Channing Tatum, Alison Brie, Cobie Smulers, Nick Offerman, Charlie Day and Jadon Sand.
