Gareth Edwards' new film in the "Jurassic Park/World" series hasn't yet been given an official title, but — according to a report in Variety — may likely be called "Jurassic City." It will be the seventh film to be based on Michael Crichton's 1990 adventure novel.

The new film will be written by longtime blockbuster scribe David Koepp, and is being described as "a completely fresh take launching a new Jurassic era, following three adults and three teens getting stuck on the Island." The Island is presumably Isla Nublar, the fictional Costa Rican island where Steven Spielberg's "Jurassic Park" (1993) took place.

It may be generous to call the story "completely fresh," as "characters trapped on an island with dinosaurs" is also the plot of "Jurassic Park," "The Lost World: Jurassic Park," "Jurassic Park III," and "Jurassic World." Production has been completed on That One Time, an independent pilot for Lucky 13 Productions that was directed and created by Melanie Wagor, a 2020 DGA Director Development Initiative protégé.

Dermot Mulroney and newcomer Dylan Flashner star in the project, written by Wagor and Cameron Northey. Wagor and Joel Michaely are executive producers, and Northey is co-executive producer.

The pilot follows a diverse group of high school students as they struggle to define themselves while contending with what it means to be a teenager in 2019 – a time fraught with sex, drugs, social media, turbulent friendships, dysfunctional families and rapid societal change.

Jenna Leigh Green, Yazmin Monet Watkins, Troy Gentile, Ryan Malaty, Dana Melanie, Michelle DeShon and Robyn Lively are also in the cast.

Molly Shannon is spot-on in the serio-comic Wild Nights With Emily, a completely different take on the personal life of poet Emily Dickinson, portraying her as a sharp-witted woman in a lifelong romantic relationship with her sister-in-law Susan, played by Susan Ziegler. This is not how we usually think of the reclusive poet.

Writer/director Madeleine Olnek drew on Dickinson’s own personal letters to craft a film portrait of Dickinson that is strongly feminist and Lgbtq but also just plain fun and unexpectedly entertaining. The key to that is Molly Shannon. Shannon runs with the idea with comic glee. What a tremendous breath of fresh air this is. Usually, period pieces or biopics of figures such as Emily Dickinson, they tend to be rather dry. Then, there’s Wild Nights with Emily, which takes a far more lighthearted route. In fact, this is basically a dramedy, which you’d never expect based on the premise. That’s what makes the film really work, too. It’s not a movie that’s stuffy or antiseptic in any way. It’s clever, witty, and brimming with life. Dana Melanie (Wild Nights With Emily) and Rafael Cebrian (Narcos) have joined the upcoming third season of Netflix’s tween series Greenhouse Academy as series regulars.

Melanie will take over the role of Emma Geller in a recasting, previously played by Aviv Buchler in seasons one and two. Cebrian will be playing new character Enzo.

Created by Giora Chamizer, Greenhouse Academy is set at an elite Southern California boarding school where students from two rival dormitories combine forces to thwart an evil plot.

Greenhouse Academy is co-written by Chamizer and Paula Yoo. Nutz Productions, a subsidiary of Ananey Communications, produces the series for Netflix.

Melanie’s latest film Wild Nights With Emily, premiered in March at SXSW. Melanie play’s young Emily Dickinson opposite Molly Shannon, Amy Seimetz, and Brett Gelman. She is also in development on a series she penned based on a book she optioned earlier this year.

Madeleine Olnek’s movies may be an acquired taste, but the woman knows how to write a catchy premise. Her three feature films — all madcap comedies with absurdist leanings — include lesbian aliens looking for love, lesbian hustlers picking up women outside Talbot’s — and now, lesbian Emily Dickinson traipsing across her Amherst lawn after a tryst with her sister-in-law, her petticoats flung about her head. That’s the premise of “Wild Nights With Emily,” and to say that they just don’t make movies like this anymore would be grossly inaccurate: It’s hard to imagine anyone making this movie other than Olnek.

Thoroughly suspenseful, Treehouse is a well-paced thriller, which brings a lot of emotion to the screen. A supernatural or malicious physical element is plaguing a pair of teenagers and tension is built by this threatening element. This title is a standout indie feature, because of its attention to directing techniques and the performances provided by actors J. Michael Trautmann and Dana Melanie.

Synopsis

The story for Treehouse focuses on missing teenagers and unknown shadows in the local Missouri woods. A brother and sister are kidnapped and two brothers find one of the victims, Elizabeth. Elizabeth is alone and afraid, in an isolated fort; several shadows lurk below. All three classmates will have to face an unimaginable evil, if they are to survive the night.

The film begins when Elizabeth (Dana Melanie) arrives home from school to witness the abduction of her younger brother. She gives chase and is not seen again. Soon, news breaks to the local community, coinciding with sightings of strange humanoids and animal abductions and mutilations. The town descends into paranoia and a curfew is enforced. Brothers Killian (J. Michael Trautmann) and Crawford (Daniel Fredrick) stumble upon Elizabeth by chance when sneaking out to party with some local girls and that is when all proverbial hell breaks loose! A confrontation looms between these youths and their hunters.

Written and directed by Sean Cain, the film centres on a black-ops unit who attempt to subdue thousands of raptors after a top-secret laboratory is breached. It stars newcomers Dana Melanie, Kayla Carlyle and Sofia Mattsson, alongside genre actors Ray Wise and Vernon Wells.

Also on Automatic’s slate is Tim McCann’s White Rabbit, starring True Blood’s Sam Trammell, Britt Robertson, Nick Krause and Ryan Lee. The intense drama follows a bullied high school student’s descent into violence.
