After its first, and so far only, season Netflix announced that Wu Assassins would be getting a sequel in the form of a stand-alone movie. And now just about a year from that announcement, Fistful of Vengeance has arrived. Reuniting the show’s three leads Kai, Lu Xin and Tommy.

Fistful of Vengeance opens with a fight against a supernatural creature in a Bangkok nightclub. At some point between the end of the series and now someone, or more accurately something, killed Tommy’s sister Jenny and the trail has led them here and to Ku An Qi a powerful entity that has used her powers to seize control of the city’s underworld.

I don’t watch as many fighting movies as I’d like so when I got the chance to review Warrior King 2 I was at first happy. The Thailand International Film Destination Festival wrapped on April 29, with awards presented to the winners of the Amazing Thailand Film Challenge.

The short film competition involves 112 filmmakers, both students and professionals, flying to Thailand to make a short film in seven days.

The New Talent Award for Best Film went to Man by Charlotte Rabate and Chananun Chotrungroj, while Return Of The Golden Lily, directed by Takashi Hirose and Magnus Orn Thors, won the Experienced Vision Award for Best Film.

Launched last year, the festival aims to showcase Thailand as an international shooting destination, and also featured screenings of films that have shot in Thailand such as Peter Fudakowski’s Secret Sharer, Roy Alfred Jr’s Glory Days and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.

Whether they were violent and weapon waving, or quiet and slyly insinuating, last year's films were full of great antagonists of every sort.

It’s not a good idea to give Tony Jaa anything sacred or precious. Chances are someone is just going to steal it, kill it, or cook it. “Ong Bak” director Prachya Pinkaew’s “Tom Yum Goong 2″ (aka “The Protector 2″) finds the hero from the original film searching for a missing elephant one more time. Here’s hoping he has better luck this time around. In addition to Jaa, the upcoming sequel features Petchtai Wongkamlao, Marrese Crump, JeeJa Yanin, Dan Chupong, Rhatha Phongam, and RZA. I’m particularly excited about JeeJa Yanin’s involvement with the flick. I could literally watch that girl kick phone books for 90 minutes. Do people still use phone books? Never mind. I feel old. Traditionally, only the perfect elephants could successfully help defend the throne.

Nicolas Winding Refn is a director who has taken the ‘Show Don’t Tell’ mantra to the nth degree. Valhalla Rising saw him center an entire movie on a character that was unable to speak. His 2011 film Drive focused around a stoic stunt driver who was clearly a man of few words. Refn’s style is almost Kubrickian – not so much in his technique – but how he has little regard for pleasing the audience. They feel less like exercises in filmmaking and more so vehicles for Refn to experiment with. Personally Refn is one of my favorite directors working today as I adore his film’s unique structure. ‘Only God Forgives’ review: Nicolas Winding Refn’s ‘darkest and most oblique’ film (photo: Ryan Gosling in ‘Only God Forgives’) In Nicolas Winding Refn’s surrealist revenge thriller Only God Forgives, Julian (Ryan Gosling, of Refn’s Drive) and his brother Billy (Tom Burke) run a Muy Thai boxing academy in Indonesia. The place is a front for a drug-smuggling operation. Both brothers are criminally sadistic, but Billy is truly unhinged. In the first ten minutes of Only God Forgives, he attempts to buy sex with the twelve-year-old daughter of a brothel owner. When denied this particular fetish, Billy rapes and arbitrarily murders a young female prostitute. The police arrive on the scene led by captain Chang (veteran actor and Thai fighting master Vithaya Pansringarm), but as portrayed in Only God Forgives, Chang is an avenging angel, endowed with the ability to know the truth and mete out justice either swiftly or brutally — or both.

Ryan Gosling brought out his Summer whites when he wore a cream Salvatore Ferragamo suit to the Only God Forgives premiere in NYC yesterday. He joined his costars Kristin Scott Thomas, Vithaya Pansringarm, and Yayaying Rhatha Phongam and director Nicolas Winding Refn at Bam's Harvey Theater in Brooklyn to screen the film, which hits theaters in a limited release on Friday. We were on the scene to talk to Ryan about his new project, including what it was like to reunite with Nicolas, whom he previously worked with on Drive, and how "intense" Kristin got while channeling her evil character. We also chatted with Yayaying about playing Ryan's love interest, which she was more than happy to talk about, saying, "I think it's every girl's dream to work with Ryan!" Only God Forgives has released a new trailer.

The video shows Ryan Gosling's Julian on the trail of his brother's killers.

Nicolas Winding Refn's violent thriller centres around a Bangkok gangster and retired boxer (Gosling) who is goaded by his ruthless mother (Kristin Scott Thomas) into taking action after his brother is killed by a crooked Thai cop.

Scott Thomas has confessed that the film is "really not [her] thing" and that she took on the role to work with Refn.

The film - which reunites the Drive director with his star Gosling - received a mixed response from critics at its Cannes Film Festival premiere in May.

Vithaya Pansringarm, Tom Burke, Byron Gibson and Yayaying Rhatha Phongam also feature in the film.

Only God Forgives will arrive in Us cinemas on July 19, and opens in the UK on August 2.

FilmDistrict has sent along the new trailer for Nicolas Winding Refn's excellent crime thriller starring Ryan Gosling, Kristin Scott Thomas, Vithaya Pansringarm, Tom Burke and Yayaying. There's no doubt Refn's style is unique, and Valhalla Rising is certainly one of the most visually-disturbing films I've seen. That said, I just can't help but fall in love with the films he makes, and Drive, also with Ryan Gosling, is on the top 10 of my film list. Only God Forgives is an intense drama about Thai boxing, drug cartels, revenge and justice in the criminal underworld of Bangkok.

If 2011′s Drive proved anything, it was that Nicolas Winding Refn is a director to look out for. His amazing visual style turned what could have been an ordinary story of a getaway driver into something extraordinary. Now Refn returns with his latest effort entitled Only God Forgives, a film that premiered earlier this year at the Cannes Film Festival.

Nicolas Winding Refn’s Only God Forgives was amongst the handful of brilliant films announced this morning as premiering at this year’s 66th Cannes Film Festival.

The anticipated film sees the acclaimed Winding Refn reuniting with Ryan Gosling, after working together on one of the most memorable films in recent years, Drive.

The first trailer arrived earlier this month, giving us a terrific first look at the upcoming movie, followed more recently by a neon-infused teaser poster. And following this morning’s premiere announcement, two new international trailers have surfaced online.

Put a hype, young filmmaker who is already known among cinephile circles (Pusher series) and team him with a versatile, talented actor who has a knack for choosing roles that only show his prowess and you’ve got a match made in heaven. Drive‘s Nicolas Winding Refn re-teaming with Ryan Gosling for a second time in a row will turn out to be recommended viewing for those who want style and substance with a good old fashion blood bath.

Gist: A Bangkok police lieutenant and a gangster settle their differences in a Thai-boxing match.

Release Date: Cannes Film Festival Main Competition is a sure thing. RADiUS-twc will likley have this hit streets soon after.

Nicolas Winding Refn’s follow-up to Drive is one of the most anticipated films of the year, and for good reason. Only God Forgives sees the writer-director reteaming with Ryan Gosling, and the few set photos we’ve seen so far suggest we’re in for another bloody and epic crime-thriller.

Craig was fortunate enough to see the press preview at Cannes last year – you can read his preview report here – and as you can imagine, he really liked what he saw.

We got our first look at the promo poster a few months back, and now the first footage from the film has surfaced in a teaser reel. The quality’s not brilliant, but we’ll take everything we can get from what will almost certainly be one of the best films of the year.

2013 promises to be filled with lots of Martial Art movies and i have to say 2012 wasn’t the best year for it.
