Audiences around the world became familiar with Adria Arjona when she appeared as Bix Caleen in the Star Wars series, "Andor." "Andor" revealed the backstory of Diego Luna's rebel captain, Cassian Andor, and introduced Arjona as his love interest, Bix.
Cassian and Bix grew up together on the planet Ferrix. Season 1 opened after the two had separated and Bix had entered a relationship with her colleague, Timm Karlo (James McArdle), who was eventually killed by Imperials. It was also Bix who first put Cassian in contact with Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgård), the mastermind behind the early Rebellion, who started Cassian on his path towards becoming the spy who would help bring down the Death Star.

Adria Arjona plays one of the most underrated characters in Andor: Bix Caleen. A mechanic and scrapyard owner, Bix was helping the rebel effort by selling parts to Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgard) without even knowing. She is the one who introduces Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) to Luthen, which kick-started a chain of events that led to him becoming a rebel agent.
When Syril Karn's (Kyle Soller) squad lands in Ferrix to arrest Cassian, she risks her life to warn him, but not before reprimanding her boyfriend Timm (James McArdle) for snitching him out. Ironically, the Ferrix Incident costs Timm his life while Cassian escapes without a scratch with Luthen's help.
Bix takes care of Cassian's mother, Maarva (Fiona Shaw), when he's gone and she's nearly on her deathbed. When Dedra Meero's (Denise Gough) Isb team captures her for information, she holds out for as long as she can before Dr.

Irish-set remake of Italian film about a bachelor who cares for his elderly mum never quite matches the charm of the original, despite occasional shimmers
Gianni Di Gregorio’s modern Italian classic Mid-August Lunch from 2008, about a middle-aged bachelor caring for his ageing mum and other elderly ladies, has inspired this loose remake: a broad comedy amplifying what could be seen as the original’s queer subtext. Despite one or two sweet touches and game performances, it never comes close to matching the gentleness, subtlety and charm of the original.
The action is transferred from Rome to Dublin and the gay theme perhaps effectively replaces the importance of food in the Italian film. James McArdle is Edward, a YA author and gay man on the verge of major literary stardom, for which an upcoming US publicity tour is vitally important. But he has to take care of his widowed mum...

Edward is a queer, up-and-coming novelist forced to balance press commitments with caring for his aging mother. Pressure to go on a US book tour is mounting. But when his three closest friends, desperate to feel young and carefree again, go off on an impromptu Pride holiday, they leave their ageing mothers in Edward's care. What Do We Know About the upcoming second season of the Disney+ Star Wars series Andor? More than you may think. The acclaimed prequel to Rogue One, Andor’s first season, became one of Lucasfilm’s most critically acclaimed projects since Disney acquired them. With production wrapped on the second and final season, let’s dive in and take a look at what is coming up next in Andor.
Season two follows the four years before Rogue One.
The first season of Andor followed a single year in the life of Cassian Andor, played by Diego Luna, reprising his role from the prequel feature film. Since we know the first season of Andor is set five years before Rogue One, four years of plot need to be compressed into the twelve episodes comprising season two. The final three episodes of Andor’s second season will cover the three days before the start of Rogue One.

At its core, “Playing Nice” deals with a disturbing idea: the scary truth of identities being switched at birth. Despite being sensational, this narrative device reflects viewers’ fears about parenthood and belonging. When Maddie and Pete find out that Theo is not their biological child, they are shocked, and their ideal family is shattered.
This puts them in a maze of moral and emotional problems. With a situation where love is called into question and identity is suddenly malleable, the series skillfully highlights the fragility of familial ties. We see the couple’s confusion as they try to figure out what this new information means, which reflects the larger societal fight with identity in a world that is getting more complicated.

Things get very tense in the second episode of ITV’s new miniseries. Here’s our Playing Nice episode 2 review.
Episode 1 of Playing Nice ended on the shocking revelation that Miles and Lucy (James McArdle and Jessica Brown Findlay) had filed a lawsuit to try and claim the custody of both Theo and David, the two boys swapped at the hospital as babies. Naturally, this has caused some tension and stress for Pete and Maddie (James Norton and Niamh Algar) as we meet them at the beginning of episode 2.
Pete and Maddie find out the lawsuit was filed eight weeks ago, meaning all the couple’s nice gestures were to manipulate them. In episode 1, Miles and Pete were bonding as a couple of guys, slapping each others’ backs a lot, but that’s all now gone. In fact, Miles is trying to manipulate Theo into thinking Miles is his real daddy.

One of the major contenders for the next James Bond wants to see some changes being made in the movie and TV industry following the #MeToo movement. English actor James Norton, who is best known for the likes of Happy Valley and Little Women, and has been a favorite for the next 007 for some time, says it’s time for men to take a more “proactive” role in rebalancing “the patriarchal crimes of the past.”
Norton is next set to star in the drama series Playing Nice, in which two couples discover they were given the wrong babies when leaving hospital. The series sees the couples meet to discuss the tragic situation, with Norton’s character, Pete, forced to confront the bullying and controlling behavior of Miles, played in the show by James McArdle. James Norton, the Happy Valley star who has been heavily linked to James Bond, thinks men should be proactive when confronting the MeToo movement.
Norton told the Radio Times magazine that the “modern man” was living in a time where there was an “attempt to rebalance the patriarchal crimes of the past.”
He argued that some men wrongly think they should be “passive” about misconduct when they should actually step up in a post-MeToo world.
Norton made the comments in an interview to promote Playing Nice, the new ITV series that follows two couples who discover that their toddlers were switched at birth in a hospital mix-up.
“What interested me was the question of what it is to be a modern man, post-MeToo, with the attempt to rebalance the patriarchal crimes of the past,” he said.

Chatting with Norton, Algar, and McArdle, we discuss the original book and the translation to screen, the lure of the story for them, the complexities of the characters and their interactions with each other, the questions it raises both morally and emotionally, their working relationships, bringing the tension to the show, what...

Edward, a young adult novelist whose life is a tapestry of the threads of obligation and desire, is presented to us in “Four Mothers.” As he takes care of his elderly mother, Alma, whose quiet says a lot about the silence that often fills the spaces between love and resentment, he embodies the weight of familial duty.
He is not just a caretaker of the fragility that comes with aging. The setting of this narrative is loosely based on Gianni Di Gregorio’s “Mid-August Lunch,” but it takes place in rainy suburban Ireland instead of the sunny streets of Rome. The rainy weather represents Edward’s life’s sad undertones.
The film skitters between comedy and drama, creating a duality reflecting the absurdity of life’s burdens and the deep sadness inherent in life. The book takes us to a world where laughter comes out of sad places, making us...

ITV’s new mini series Playing Nice, starring James Norton and Niamh Algar, has been scheduled for 5th January. More on it below.
Playing Nice, ITV’s latest big drama series, plays with every parent’s worst nightmare. What if my kid was swapped at the hospital? The four part series stars James Norton and Niamh Algar as parents who find out they left the hospital with the wrong baby years ago. As they meet the parents of their biological son, things start going sideways as they so often do in these things.
Here’s a much more eloquent synopsis: Living a waking nightmare, Pete (James Norton) and Maddie (Niamh Algar) are jettisoned into the world of the other couple; Miles (James McArdle) and Lucy (Jessica Brown Findlay). At first it seems all four are agreed on a solution, but it soon becomes clear that hidden motives are at play.

Mare of Easttown was released as a limited series on HBO in 2021. Three years later, creator Brad Ingelsby says he is open to developing new episodes.
"We're always open to revisiting Mare," Ingelsby told reporters during an HBO press conference via Deadline. "I would welcome the chance if we could craft the story. Mare's journey was so emotional, and it was hard to come up with an emotional story. It's hard to come up with one that could compete with losing a son and having to confront that. There are a lot of plotlines we could explore [but] I want to give Mare some space before we build up another emotional trauma. That's hard to jump back into."

Mare of Easttown creator Brad Ingelsby explains why season 2 would be a challenge despite his willingness to revisit Kate Winslet's hit HBO show. Aired in 2021, the crime drama follows Winslet as the titular detective, Mare Sheehan, who investigates a murder in a small town outside Philadelphia. Other than Winslet in the lead role, the Mare of Easttown cast includes Julianne Nicholson, Jean Smart, Angourie Rice, Evan Peters, Sosie Bacon, David Denman, James McArdle, Guy Pearce, and Cailee Spaeny.
During an HBO press conference in Los Angeles (via Deadline), Ingelsby explained why Mare of Easttown season 2 would be a challenge. The creator is willing to revisit the show, but only if they can craft a story as emotionally compelling as the first season, though he wants to "give Mare some space" to avoid rushing into another intense storyline. That the mother-son film movie remains, for some reason, the least-covered quadrant when it comes to parent-child relationships on screen may say something about patriarchal bias in the industry — though the best examples say plenty themselves about how men are raised and made. A modestly framed domestic comedy with surprising reserves of wisdom and sadness, Darren Thornton’s thoroughly disarming sophomore feature “Four Mothers” earns itself a place in the mother-son pantheon only a few minutes in, as mild-mannered writer Edward (James McArdle) helps his disabled mother Alma (Fionnula Flanagan) select and put on an outfit for the day, drily hamming up the routine to distract from the pain of her dependency. A simple scene of reversed care roles, it’s nonetheless rare in its everyday tenderness, and sets the tone for a film packed with similarly lovely, unforced observations.

There is always space, it seems, for another warm-hearted story about the foibles of Irish working-class women, cosy as a fireside chat with a nice cup of tea. As for gay men and their mams, that’s a rich seam of drama, comedy and whatever lies in between that is probably inexhaustible. The four mothers who give Darren Thornton’s film its title all have gay sons and have come to some sort of accommodation with that uncomfortable knowledge, however badly it sits with the church where these sons deliver them dutifully every Sunday morning. After all, they couldn’t live without their boys — literally. Who else would put up with them and still show the love? “It does get easier,” mutters one of the sons to another as they huddle in a back pew. “When?” is the anguished reply.
Except that it’s not real anguish, just a comedy...

Sexy Beast, developed by Michael Caleo, is a prequel to the 2000 British crime drama of the same name, originally conceived by Louis Mellis and David Scinto. The series follows the exploits and early relationship between the main characters from the film, Gal Dove (James McArdle) and Don Logan (Emun Elliott) as the two best friends fall deeper into the 1990s London underworld. Add Gal's forbidden romance to the mix with the adult film actress Deedee (Sarah Greene), and the stage is set for a proper gangster tale. The series delivers on its name as a stylish, hyper-violent, east-end gangster drama, but the problem is that Gal Dove doesn't seem to have any reason to be involved in gangster life.

Few people would have put money on Sexy Beast (2000), a British crime film that earned $10.2M at the box office against a $4.3M budget, would, 24 years later, receive a prequel series on Paramount+. Whether it's a testament to the enduring power of the original IP or the fact that it's much easier to produce something "new" with an established, curiosity-inducing name attached, a previously one-and-done story has now been subjected to a rigorous gap-filling and mystique-busting practice that is all too common in contemporary media.
Sexy Beast (2024) is, first and foremost, jarring for its remarkable non-effort to capture the vitality of the 2000 original. The film's dialogue, alternating between the oblique, hardened terseness of crime novels and cinematically exuberant expletive-fueled dress-downs, had the stylized stiltedness of a Pinter chamber drama. It was all aided by the commanding, livewire performances of its three leads: Ray Winstone as Gary "Gal" Dove, Sir Ben Kingsley as Don Logan,...
