Doug Jones has addressed his possible return as Billy Butcherson, the zombie ex-boyfriend of witch Winnie Sanderson (Bette Midler), in the upcoming Hocus Pocus 3. The original 1993 movie was a theatrical disappointment but became a cult classic off the back of Halloween viewing, prompting a Disney+ legacy sequel in 2022 featuring the return of Jones and Midler along with Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as Winnie's sisters Sarah and Mary. No cast members have been officially confirmed for the upcoming Hocus Pocus 3, though returning director Anne Fletcher and screenwriter Jen D'Angelo are attached.

Awkwafina and Sandra Oh star in the hit comedy Quiz Lady, bringing Asian-American representation to the forefront. The movie not only garnered rave reviews but also an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Television Movie, which made writer and producer Jen D'Angelo even prouder of the film. D'Angelo reflects on working with Awkwafina, Sandra Oh, and director Jessica Yu to build out her spec script, finding the perfect people for her colorful cast of characters, how she originally intended to feature Jeopardy! in the movie, and the origin behind the film's Mr. Linguini joke.

Sistaaaas! When Hocus Pocus 2 hit Disney+ in September 2022, its record-breaking viewership all but guaranteed a third entry in the family-friendly series. While it took nearly two decades for that sequel to be conjured up, those at Disney might want to get their brooms in line for Hocus Pocus 3 because the cast isn’t exactly getting younger – those are Bette Midler’s words, not mine!
Bette Midler – who plays eldest Sanderson sister Winifred – is urging the studio to take action on Hocus Pocus 3 due to age (Midler is 78). “I think if they’re gonna, they oughta, because time is not just marching, time is barrel-assing to the finish line. Get us while we’re still breathing, I mean, God!” As for if she knows anything about what a third Hocus Pocus could center on, Middler added, “I haven’t seen the script, but I’ve heard rumblings.”

Bette Midler is jokingly pushing Disney for production on Hocus Pocus 3 due to aging actors. The release of Hocus Pocus 3 might not be until 2026 or beyond, with the most recent update on the film coming in October 2023. Disney may fast-track production for a potential Halloween release next year, or could wait until a later year.
Actor Bette Midler is pressuring Disney to make the previously announced Hocus Pocus 3 as soon as they can, saying it would be beneficial to bring back the original cast once again. Hocus Pocus 2 came out in 2022, about 29 years after the original, bringing back the original actors for the Sanderson sisters, those being Midler as Winfred, Sarah Jessica Parker as Sarah, and Kathy Najimy as Mary. Because of their iconic roles and the success of the sequel, the upcoming Hocus Pocus 3 was confirmed to be in development.

Bette Midler is asking Disney to put the pedal to the metal when it comes to “Hocus Pocus 3.” While a third movie in the beloved Halloween franchise was officially announced in June 2022, Midler said on the QVC+ talk show “Busy This Week” (via Entertainment Weekly) that she has yet to see a script. That’s only an issue for the actor since she’s not getting any younger, nor are her longtime co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimi.
“I haven’t seen the script, but I’ve heard rumblings,” Midler said about the third movie. “I think if they’re gonna, they oughta, because time is not just marching, time is barrel-assing to the finish line. Get us while we’re still breathing, I mean, God!”
Screenwriter Jen D’Angelo confirmed to Entertainment Weekly last year following the end of the WGA strike that “Hocus Pocus 3” was still in development.

One of the funniest and most imaginative sequences in the new Hulu comedy “Quiz Lady” involves drugs, dogs and… talking clouds?!
In the film, anxiety-riddled Anne (Awkwafina) and her sister Jenny (Sanda Oh) devise a scheme to pay off their mother’s gambling debts and rescue their dog, who has been held for ransom by debt collectors.
Jenny suggests Anne audition for “Can’t Stop the Quiz,” a trivia game show that Anne has watched religiously her entire life. But when they get to the auditions, Anne’s anxiety kicks into overdrive and she sweats uncontrollably. Jenny offers her a relaxant to power through the question round. As the drugs kick in, Anne is transported to a Teletubby-esque meadow as “Watermelon Sugar” by Harry Styles plays.
It then cuts to the real world, where viewers see Jenny horrified at what she’s done.

The film Quiz Lady revolves around the complicated relationship between two sisters, Anne and Jenny, who are separated by a significant age difference. Awkwafina and Sandra Oh portray Anne and Jenny, respectively, with a ten-year age gap between their characters. The age difference between Anne and Jenny plays a crucial role in the movie, as Anne had to assume a caretaker role following Jenny's departure, causing resentment and a reversal of maturity between the sisters.
Quiz Lady features the talents of Awkwafina as Anne Yum and Sandra Oh as Jenny Yum — two sisters separated by a significant age difference in the film. Anne and Jenny's mom owes a gambling debt of $80,000, which leads to Ken holding Anne's dog hostage as collateral. The late Paul Reubens had a memorable cameo in Quiz Lady, playing two distinct roles in one scene. Reubens pretends to be mistaken for Alan Cumming by a character in the film and even speaks in Cumming's Scottish accent. Sadly, Quiz Lady was Reubens' final role before his passing on July 30, 2023, at the age of 70 due to cancer.

So, how accurate are some of those old sayings? Well, in the case of “You can pick your friends, but you can’t pick your family”, well…yes, 100 percent. That’s especially true with siblings, going all the way back to Cain and Abel. Sure brothers battle, but is that ditto for sisters? This weekend’s new comedy uses that as its “springboard”. These two ladies couldn’t be more different or argumentative, Fortunately, they’re both hilarious, and their characters are played by two talented actresses. You see, the elder is a party gal while the other is saddled with the title Quiz Lady.

Hocus Pocus 2 cut a Max cameo, along with cameos from Jay and Ice, to trim down the script and focus on characters with a reason to be in the story. Many viewers were disappointed that Max, Dani, and Allison didn't return in Hocus Pocus 2, as the sequel went in a different direction and reinvented the story in modern-day Salem. With the confirmation of Hocus Pocus 3, the original characters can make an appearance, as both Vinessa Shaw and Omri Katz have expressed interest in returning to the universe.
Hocus Pocus 2 screenwriter explains why one key cameo was cut from the sequel. After 1993’s Halloween hit Hocus Pocus was released three decades ago, the Sanderson Sisters returned to Salem, Massachusetts, to again create witchery chaos in Hocus Pocus 2. "Hocus Pocus 3" will premiere after over 30 years since the first film, as the Sanderson Sisters seek revenge on Salem. The return of Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy is expected, as it would be difficult to make the film without them. The upcoming sequel should showcase the Sanderson Sisters as more dangerous villains, adding a serious tone to the franchise.
Hocus Pocus 3 will premiere more than 30 years following the release of the first film, but the Sanderson Sisters will wait as long as needed to get what they want from the people of Salem, Massachusetts. Walt Disney Pictures released Hocus Pocus in 1993, and at the time, no one could have predicted how big of a hit the movie would be, especially in the month of October, for many years to come. It was initially a box office bomb and received mixed reviews from critics. But as...

A ho-hum road trip comedy pairs the actors as childlike sisters with only all-too-brief moments of hilarity on the way
It’s a grand Hollywood tradition for an established star to play against the ambition and drive that makes a career – to play a loser, a weirdo, a shut-in. Or, at the very least, a debased and dysfunctional version of themselves. The new Hulu comedy Quiz Lady stars the comedian Awkwafina – Aka the dramatic actor Nora Lum, who stole scenes in Crazy Rich Asians and won accolades for her work as a grieving granddaughter in The Farewell – in loser drag as Annie Yum, a slouchy thirtysomething recluse long obsessed with a daily televised quiz show. The film’s hook is her pairing with Sandra Oh, playing against type as Annie’s brash Peter Pan of an older sister, Jenny.

Chances are, you know someone like “Quiz Lady” Anne Yum. As played by Awkwafina, this socially awkward young woman works a boring Cpa job by day, doing her best to blend in with the gray walls of her cubicle. But every evening at the same hour, Anne tunes in to her favorite game show and becomes a star — even if her flatulent old pug, Mr. Linguini, is the only witness — as she answers every question quickly and correctly.
The kind of comedy perfectly suited to the comfort of one’s own couch, Jessica Yu’s “Quiz Lady” is the story of how, with the help of her outrageously extroverted older sister, Jenny (Sandra Oh), Anne overcomes her anxiety and agrees to appear as a contestant on “Can’t Stop the Quiz.” So what if she trips up in front of idol/host Terry McTeer (Will Ferrell) when she finally reaches...

It took nearly three decades, but the highly anticipated "Hocus Pocus" sequel finally arrived last year, just in time for Halloween. But there's even more good news for longtime fans of the spooky franchise: a third movie is officially in the works at Disney. That's right, Walt Disney Pictures president Sean Bailey shared the announcement himself in a New York Times profile published on June 4.
The publication noted that "Hocus Pocus 3" is, indeed, happening, while Bailey discussed the 50-plus movies in development and production at the company - which include upcoming live-action versions of "Moana" and "Lilo and Stitch."
No other details about the third "Hocus Pocus" were revealed at the time, including whether or not all the Sanderson sisters - Winnie (Bette Midler), Mary (Kathy Najimy), and Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker) - will return to reprise their roles. However, screenwriter Jen D'Angelo dropped some hints in an October interview with Entertainment Weekly,...

Hocus Pocus 3 is still in development, and the team is currently in the story phase, exploring various ideas and potential storylines. The Mother Witch character, played by Hannah Waddingham in Hocus Pocus 2, is being considered for a more significant role. While no storylines are concrete yet, the team hopes to see the return of the Sanderson sisters as adults and take the characters on exciting adventures.

The movie is a follow-up to the 2022 Disney+ original Hocus Pocus 2, which was a sequel to the original 1993 cult classic. Both movies followed the Sanderson sisters, a trio of witches who have twice been unleashed upon Salem, Massachusetts on Halloween. The new movie was confirmed to be in development this June, with Hocus Pocus 2 director Anne Fletcher and writer Jen D'Angelo set to return.

Plot: A brilliant but tightly wound, gameshow-obsessed young woman, Anne, and her estranged, train-wreck of a sister Jenny, must work together to help cover their mother’s gambling debts. When Anne’s beloved dog is kidnapped, they set out on a wild, cross-country trek to get the cash the only way they know how: by turning Anne into a bona-fide gameshow champion.
Review: I love quiz shows. I also love movies and series about quiz shows. Whether it be Robert Redford’s acclaimed Quiz Show, the subplot in Magnolia, or the long-running SNL sketch spoofing Celebrity Jeopardy, something is fascinating about trivia challenges and the people who participate in them. The new Hulu original Quiz Lady takes that concept and adds elements of various comedies, including road trips, raunchy humor, family dysfunction, and more. The result is a far more nuanced film than the trailers present, but one that is absolutely focused on being funny.

Totally Killer adds some new rules to the time travel genre, making it a genre mashup of slasher horror and time travel shenanigans. It crafts its own narrative around a different set of parameters. The time travel rules in Totally Killer involve using extra metal alloy and needing a strong Wi-Fi signal to transport through time and space effectively. Any involvement in past events can alter the present day directly and changes occur simultaneously across different time periods. The film incorporates the concept of the Mandela effect, where memories and facts surrounding the original Sweet 16 Killer case are altered and resemble ghost-like memories. The protagonist's disappearance and return to the present cause all of her memories to face the Mandela effect, while other characters have false memories to her.

Totally Killer is a fun and engaging horror comedy that mixes slasher horror with time travel, although it tries to do too much with its plot. The film successfully balances nostalgia with criticism, cleverly juxtaposing Gen Z sensibilities with 1987 behaviors. While the mystery surrounding the killer's identity loses momentum, the film's distinct flair, charm, and entertaining nature make it worth recommending.
Totally Killer gets clever by mixing slasher horror and time travel. A horror comedy can be hard to nail, but Totally Killer, directed by Nahnatchka Khan from a screenplay by David Matalon, Sasha Perl-Raver, and Jen D’Angelo, is fun and engaging. While it’s trying to do too much in terms of its plot, and doesn’t fully live up to its potential in terms of its slasher moments, the film has a great cast, and there are enough heartfelt moments and intrigue to keep the momentum going.
