Comedians Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers opened their first televised Las Culturistas Culture Awards with a delirious, inch-perfect rendition of Lady Gaga’s “Abracadabra.”
Though obviously not quite as elaborate as Gaga’s own video and performances, Yang and Rogers still pulled out as many stops as they could. There was a troupe of cane-wielding back-up dancers, some committed vocal runs, and stomping choreography. They even had fellow comedian Patti Harrison introduce the performance in a full “lady in red” get-up.

Comedians Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers honored the best, brightest, and dumbest (complimentary) in pop culture at the fourth annual Las Culturistas Culture Awards, which made its television debut tonight.
Both a send-up of, and winking tribute to, the splendor and ridiculousness of industry awards shows, Yang and Rogers started the Culture Awards in 2022, spinning off the bit from their hit podcast, Las Culturistas. David Corenswet’s first flight as Superman might have launched in 2025, but the earliest sign of his cape-wearing destiny was quietly stitched into a Netflix drama six years ago. In The Politician, long before he became DC’s new Man of Steel, the actor, 32, played River Barkley, a calm, introspective high school golden boy, opposite Ben Platt’s ambitious Payton Hobart. In a surreal dream sequence from Season 2 episode 7, Hobart tells River:
Why, though? What was so bad about your life? I mean, you look like Superman, and you speak Chinese, and you had money, and hugging you is like hugging a steel shipping crate.
What felt like a clever throwaway line in 2019 now reads like eerie foreshadowing. Right? The internet has taken notice. Check out the scene below:

To be fair, I’d probably lose my job and disappoint my father if I set out to write a “celebration of fly white boys who love beautiful queens of every race,” too.
14 Tom Hanks’ Failson
Tragically, the “scared straight”-style wilderness intervention he was subjected to as a teen didn’t take, and Chet Hanks has achieved only infamy in his decades-long struggle for pop-culture relevance. His song “White Boy Summer” is the closest he’s gotten so far, but the intended “celebration of fly white boys who love beautiful queens of every race” has turned into more of a white privilege/white pride anthem.

A new action-comedy movie featuring a reunion of two of the stars of Pitch Perfect franchise has been met with derision from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The trilogy of musical comedy movies, which followed the exploits of the college a cappella group the Barden Bellas, debuted in theaters between 2012 and 2019, followed by the one-season Peacock spinoff Bumper in Berlin in 2022.

Amazon Prime Video’s newest A24-backed show, Overcompensating, was promoted as a coming-of-age comedy drama full of emotional awakenings, cringe-comedy, and campus chaos. But as soon as you press play on the pilot, Benito Skinner, playing an 18-year-old college freshman, does not make sense. While there’s no denying Skinner is a talented comedian with a remarkable social media presence, casting him as a teenager fresh out of high school might’ve been a stretch too big.
He might’ve felt like the right fit for the role to other creators of the series, but one can’t help but notice how very awkward his portrayal is. It doesn’t matter if he throws on a graphic tee or clenches his jaw; none of that will successfully mask the age gap.
Benito Skinner does not look 18 in Overcompensating

Richard Linklater greeted enthusiastic applause following the Cannes debut of Nouvelle Vague, his portrait of Jean-Luc Godard’s audacious creation of Breathless. Speaking beside Quentin Tarantino, a filmmaking peer of three decades, Linklater drew parallels between the original French movement and his own 1990s independent surge.
“I told Quentin I felt like I was 28 again, making Slacker,” Linklater said after the premiere. “On that film, I was full of ideas, and everybody around me was asking, ‘So what now?’ It’s thrilling but nerve-racking.”
Nouvelle Vague dramatizes Godard bluffing his way through the shoot of Breathless, pioneering jump cuts and handheld camerawork that shocked audiences. Linklater, seated at a rooftop venue near the Palais, noted how Godard, Truffaut and peers transformed cinema by breaking rules. “They reshaped storytelling,” he said. “We felt that same buzz in the ’90s with Tarantino, Soderbergh, Anderson and van Sant.”

Winners of the 2025 Drama League Awards were announced today in a ceremony hosted by Emmy-winning NY1 reporter Frank Dilella at the Ziegfeld Ballroom. In a competitive year for theater awards, both Maybe Happy Ending and Sunset Boulevard added important feathers to their caps on their march to the Tony Awards.
Nicole Scherzinger took home the Drama League’s highly coveted Distinguished Performance prize for her radical reinterpretation of Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard. Actors can only win this catch-all performance award once in their careers.
The winner of this award repeats that victory at the Tonys more often than not. Last year, Sarah Paulson won the Drama League before clinching a Tony win for her role in the play Appropriate. Other recent Drama League winners who went on to win a Tony in the same year include Danny Burstein (Moulin Rouge!), Bryan Cranston (Network), Glenda Jackson (Three Tall Women), Ben Platt...

Singer Teases ‘Revolutionary’ Upgrade Coming To Dollywood
Dollywood opened its doors for the first time on May 3, 1986. Dolly Parton was on hand in March to open the park for the 2025 season. This year will be particularly special for visitors. Dollywood is celebrating its 40th season. Many of the park’s attractions got updates in the off-season.
Furthermore, a popular attraction is now a permanent fixture. The Imagination Playhouse is now a staple at the theme park. The playhouse features plays based on books found in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. The library provides free books to children. It celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.
Multiple sources revealed that Dollywood had record-breaking attendance last season. But that isn’t good enough for Dolly Parton.

Hardcore Wicked fans have a lot of unshakable opinions, including the widespread belief that the Wizard’s big moment in the first act, the talky “A Sentimental Man,” is the Broadway show’s single worst song. But when Jeff Goldblum stepped in as the Wizard for director Jon M. Chu’s blockbuster film version, he managed to salvage the song in fans’ eyes, playing up the character’s toxic blend of smarm and charisma. “I’ve had a lot of positive anecdotal response like that,” Goldblum says in the new...

Ben Platt Admits to Feeling 'Alienated' From Jewish Community, Voices Support for Palestinian Rights
Ben Platt is making rare comments about the Israel-Palestine conflict and sharing how he feels “alienated” by the Jewish community.
Ben‘s family has made headlines recently for being pro-Israel. If you didn’t know, his father Marc Platt is the producer of the new Snow White movie and reports claimed that he attempted to silence star Rachel Zegler from making pro-Palestine statements.
Ben‘s brother Jonah Platt, who hosts the “Being Jewish” podcast, slammed Rachel in social media comments.
Now, Ben is speaking out.

Ben Platt Transformation (Photo Credit – Prime Video)
Ben Platt didn’t just play Evan Hansen. He became him, again. When Dear Evan Hansen made the jump from Broadway to the big screen, Platt returned to the title role with a mission: make it real, make it raw, and make it 17. And that meant some serious transformation behind the scenes.
The film adaptation of the Tony-winning musical hit theaters in 2021 with a $15 million budget and sky-high expectations. Platt, who originated the role off-Broadway in 2015 and helped shape Evan from scratch, was now 27 years old. But the emotionally fragile teen at the heart of the story? Still very much supposed to be in high school.
So Platt rolled up his sleeves, and grabbed a razor.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Platt admitted, “I have a lot of facial hair,” and said he shaved three times a day just to keep a baby-faced look on camera.

Ariana DeBose denies that she is taking sides in the alleged feud between her West Side Story co-star Rachel Zegler and the Platt family.
Rachel starred in the movie Snow White, which was produced by Marc Platt. In addition to producing movies like Wicked, The Little Mermaid, Mary Poppins Returns, and Dear Evan Hansen, he has also made movies like Legally Blonde, Josie and the Pussycats, and La La Land.
Marc‘s son Jonah Platt took to Instagram last week and accused Rachel of hurting the film’s box office by making political statements.
“Narcissism is not something to be coddled or encouraged,” Jonah ended his statement, which has since been deleted.
Ariana shocked fans when she posted that exact quote to her Instagram Stories, though she has since deleted the post after becoming aware of its origin. She’s now speaking out to clarify what happened.

Earlier this week, Sony Pictures released a new poster for “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” which stars “General Hospital” alum Nicholas Alexander Chavez (ex-Spencer Cassadine) and sees Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt (“9-1-1”) reprising their roles from the iconic film of the same name which set off the franchise in 1997.
Like the first film, the new iteration sees five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident. To cover up their involvement, they make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences. A year later, their past comes back to haunt them, and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: Someone knows what they did last summer and is hell-bent on revenge. As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to the two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help.

It looks like Rachel Zegler is trying to shift her career and lean toward her musical roots. After Disney’s highly anticipated $270M Snow White stumbled at the box office, and backlash followed the actress, Zegler appeared to be switching gears and going back to what she does best: singing her heart out.

Sharing the spotlight with Broadway royalties like Jonathan Groff and Ben Platt, Rachel Zegler did a cover of Who I’d Be from Shrek the Musical. It looks like Zegler is perhaps taking the controversial internet figure, Andrew Tate’s advice a little too seriously—after he suggested that the actress should rather stick to singing.

Let’s talk about Jonah Platt—the name that might make you think hard, and yet come up with “who’s that?” Well, he’s the Hollywood nepo baby who shockingly slipped through the cracks, instead of getting showered with golden opportunities, despite having a father like Marc Platt. Yes, the same guy who produced films like La La Land and Disney’s Snow White.

These days, it seems like all anyone can talk about in Hollywood are "nepo babies." Originating in the early 2020s, "nepo baby" describes individuals whose success can be attributed to a parent or relative's previous success in the same industry due to nepotism. Plenty of celebrities have achieved accolades without fans knowing about their famously talented families. Some of the most iconic A-listers in film and TV owe their successes to extreme privilege, such as people like Ben Stiller, or Zoë Kravitz.
Most of the time, nepo babies are forced to wear their privilege on their sleeves just by virtue of their names, as Allison Williams (daughter of former NBC anchor Brian Williams) told Wired, "It doesn't feel like a loss to admit it ... If you trust your own skill, I think it becomes very simple to acknowledge." Others, like Jamie Lee Curtis, have spoken out against the ridicule towards nepotism babies in pop culture.

Which Role Did Cillian Murphy Want To Play In Barbie Sequel? (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Cillian Murphy as Ken? Well, he’s open to it. The Oppenheimer star made it clear he’d “have a conversation” about joining the sequel to Barbie. The same guy who played J. Robert Oppenheimer is down to swap his somber suits for pastel beachwear.
Murphy, 47, shared his thoughts in an interview with Omelete. When asked if he’d play a Ken in Barbie 2, he said, “Sure, yeah. Let’s read the script, let’s have a conversation.” No hesitation. No overthinking. Just pure Ken-ergy. This timing is interesting, given how Barbie and Oppenheimer dominated theaters together last summer. Murphy, for one, loved the showdown. “I can’t wait to see Barbie,” he admitted. “I think it’s great for cinema to get all these great movies happening this summer.”

Everyone remembers high school differently. For some, high school was an era of overachievement, leading to a false sense of how competitive life can become outside the hallowed halls of judgment, ridicule, and misguided lust. For others, high school is a specter of the past better left behind after years of jeers, rumors, and misinformation about how the world functions. For The Bear‘s Molly Gordon, high school is the setting of her new comedy project with A24 called Peaked.
As the film’s title suggests, Peaked focuses on the glory days of prom planning and experimentation and that fleeting time when we feel invisible. According to the official logline, the film follows “the two girls who traumatized you in high school as they try to relive their glory days at their 10-year reunion.” You remember them. I certainly do.

Paul Mescal is strapping in for a filmmaking journey like no other. The Aftersun star revealed he had second thoughts when signing up for Richard Linklater’s Merrily We Roll Along, a film set to be shot over 20 years. “I probably thought, ‘Oh, fuck!’” Mescal told Esquire UK, acknowledging the magnitude of the commitment.
Linklater, known for his time-lapse epic Boyhood, is tackling Stephen Sondheim’s beloved musical with the same long-game approach. The story, originally a Broadway play by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, follows three friends in reverse chronological order as their careers in entertainment unfold and unravel. Mescal plays Franklin Shepard, a composer, alongside Ben Platt and Beanie Feldstein as his closest companions.
Mescal admitted that the daunting timeline might leave him second-guessing his choices: “I think I’m going to spend...

“Boyhood” was filmed across 12 years, with Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette starring. The feature was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
